I'm not saying you should do so, but I would very much enjoy phoning up such a company (on a friday afternoon) and try to order two buckets of sand for a playmomobil diorama.

Egypt, Giza Plateau, Upper Kingdom, 1300 BC.... (New Kingdom)

The resting place of the three first Pharaohs of the Old Kingdom... A linage strong within the passing of the centuries...
Here, time stand still though and these great monuments are the sole reminders of the greatness of the first Pharaohs.

The Sphinx is always guarding, always watching, over these leviathans of time.
Here you will always find the High Priest of Anubis, dwelling somewhere within the structures... Today however is the Great Anniversary of the Passing of the First Pharaoh and the High Priest is in counsil with the spirit of the Great Sphinx...

Each pyramid is guarded by a Sentinel! A warrior that must never leave his post and who can only allow a Pharaoh, the High Priest or the Queen of the Nile to enter one of the great tombs....

Since no Sentinel can leave their post, a caretaker has been appointed by the Pharaoh to look after the whole Plateau and take care the Sentinel's needs. He is the one who will also alert directly for any troubles in the area the Pharaoh's General.

Since today is the Great Anniversary of the Passing of the First Pharaoh, the current Pharaoh has to honour his predecessor!

He leaves the palace of Karnak with his escort, which comprises of his son driving the chariot and his General leading the procession

The Queen of the Nile is always at the side of her husband... so are the Pharaoh's bodyguads carrying him, the Queen's attendants and her maidens.

The Pharaoh and Queen are flanked by the Royal Guards, always mounted on their horses, and two regiments of the Egyptian Army...

Its going to be a long day...

...because a team of tomb raiders have captured the caretaker and are about to invade the sacred grounds...
..they tide up the caretaker...
...and placed him in a crypt at his house...
...sealing him inside so he cannot alert anyone for help...
The raiders, following their leader, began their ride for the central pyramid, the one where the first Pharaoh was buried and the one that likely hold the most treasures...
Since a Sentinel cannot leave the pyramid, the quest will be easy, or so they thought...

Excellent photos and a GREAT story, Panos!

I feel so sorry for the "caretaker" sealed up in that crypt. Please help him to get out of there soon.

Meanwhile, the Pharaoh and his escort have arrived at the Great Sphinx, there to be greeted by the High Priest!
The Pharaoh comes down off his throne and salutes the High priest with a ceremonial greeting, while the General and his son flank the Great Guardian as is customary to do so, and the Royal Guard flanks the Pharaoh!
Then the procession is on its way to the Great Pyramid for the ceremony. The Pharaoh, on foot this time, is addressing matters of spiritual and administrative nature with the High Priest.
The troops are not allowed in the sacred grounds, only in case of danger, so they remain at the Great Sphinx, while the Royal Guards are escorting the nobles...
Suddenly the ground starts to shake, the sound of galloping echoing in the distance, becoming stronger, startles our group!!! Then the sounds of shouting and yelling, reveal the intentions of the group showing up in the distance...

Hi

Your story is off to a strong start  and your choice of floor works well, but I would suggest when you get the sand in that room, try buffing out that shine and it will look perfect ( just make sure the wife is not around  )

Deus ex machina Richard...all in good time!!!

In an oasis near the Great Pyramids, another raiding party prepares for their own assault. Their leader is making plans of which Pyramid to raid...
And it is going to be the third one, as is a bit remote from the other ones, its going to be easy to hit if the Sentinel is taken care off. And since all the nobles will be asembled in the first (middle) pyramid for the ceremony there will be no complications! So he orders the scout to check on the situation and report back...
...the scout reached the third (right hand side) pyramid and is cyrcling around carefully...
...he sneaks upon the Sentinel...
...but pauses to stare in amazement the raiding party attacking at the nobles...
Full of joy he returns to tell his comrades that no one will bother them today since another party is off to attack the nobles!!! The joy is tremendous for the leader and his men!!! Or is it?....

Our group is now facing their attackers...
The Pharaoh and the High Priest must be protected so they are escorted inside the Great Pyramid by the bodyguards.
The General, the Pharaoh's son , and two Royal Guards turned to face their attackers...

The Queen is redirected towards the first pyramid further away from danger.
A Royal Guard escorts her while another turns around in order to reach the troops at the Sphinx and ask for reinforcements!

The queen is now safe in the pyramid!

The Royal Guard reached the troops stationed at the Sphinx and explained the situation at hand...
He ordered the Officers to lead their troops around the Sphinx so that they can attack the raiders from behind...
..and left to ask for more reinforcements from the palace...
At the palace, he ordered a squard to remain behind and guard the palace,
(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x335/Baldthar/Giza%20plateau/33.jpg)
while the rest must follow him in case the situation becomes more dangerous for their Pharaoh and the nobles...

Meanwhile the raiders had reached the Great Pyramid and cyrcled around the small group...the Pharaoh's bodyguards had joined the fight and the Sentinel as well, but the raiders were many more...
Suddently the troops arriving from the Sphinx cyrcled around the raiders and ordered them to stand down...
Even though the raiders were now in the middle of two groups, some of them turned to face the soldiers...
leaving their leader open to attack...this breaking of the line made the raiders, and especially their leader to loose their cohesion...The leader now threatened by the General's cimitars led his camel to rush backwards, thus throwing two of his men off their camels...easy prey to the general...
A great chase began towards the third pyramid....
while the remainder raiders got arrested by the troops...
Title: Re: On the Giza Plateau...

It was a happy (and greedy) moment for the second group of raiders...
they had just broken the first seal at the side of the third pyramid and were ready to remove the second one when suddently a fast galloping camel approached them...
...and the they saw a group of armed noblemen chasing the raider...
and as they had no time to react or realise what had just happened they found themselves on the path of the General...
who ordered his men to arrest the newly found scavanger group....
thus allowing the leader of the first raiding party, two of his men and the scout of the second group to run free towards the oasis..

The bad guys were apprehended and exiled from the New Kingdom...they would have met with a more tragic fate but it was the Anniversary of the Passing of the First Pharaoh, a celebration of life, a celebration of the soul passing to the nether regions, and the ceremonies must not be stained!

The ceremonies took place in front of the Great Pyramid of the First Pharaoh, but as to how they were conducted its unsure for this humble story teller to describe or show...

(hint for Richard...you'll see the caretaker next to the Pharaoh's bodyguards  ;))

Epilogue-----

Before the ceremonies took place it was essential that the caretaker of the Giza Plateau be released!
The General, along with two of his officers, searched the house and they finally heard the caretaker's cry from the crypt in which he was imprisoned.
They quickly took him out...
and freed him off his bonds...

Thank you for a marvellous story, Panos - so much excitement, so much action and so well told.

The layout of the sets and the floor went perfectly together, so you have no real need for sand (and I guess that the light reflected from the shiny floor helps with the photography).

I've never seen the Egyptian theme close-up before and the detail and quality of the printing is amazing.  I like the tomb raiders and their camels very much.  I remember that I had some of the metal Arabs made by Britain's, the makers of the best toy soldier in the UK for many years and they were a favourite of mine.  It would be good to see a desert Arab/Foreign Legion theme some day.

Thank you very much gordon for your positive comments!!! The floor did work better than I had imagined!!!

The Egyptians are an excelent theme!!! so many possibilities with them!! Both for playing and for customising!! and the colour so vivid!!! you should see the stickers that go inside the parts of the pyramid that represent hierogliphics and paintings of the Egyptian gods and pharaohs!!! Playmobil did a great job with them!!!!

The camels are also great!! I have to say that in this theme the boxes do their contents a great injustice!!!

Yes I know! Thought the country is filled with ancient sites etc, the ministry of culture does not give a lot of money for excavations to take place. Most excavations are being done by students and when the findings are published the professors get all the credit for the discovery  >:( >:( >:( Its a sad situation...

As for the caretaker, his torso is from 7382 - Pharaoh (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7382), his arms, legs and head from any egyptian soldier, his hair and beard from any klicky that has them, like the k3659a - King (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=k3659a)

hmmm now that i think about it....these arms of the caretaker are plain white sleves....no such sleves exist in the egyptian theme...they all have gold stipes on them...I wander where is it from......it'll come to me eventually....

Yes I know! Thought the country is filled with ancient sites etc, the ministry of culture does not give a lot of money for excavations to take place. Most excavations are being done by students and when the findings are published the professors get all the credit for the discovery  >:( >:( >:( Its a sad situation...

As for the caretaker, his torso is from 7382 - Pharaoh (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7382), his arms, legs and head from any egyptian soldier, his hair and beard from any klicky that has them, like the k3659a - King (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=k3659a)

hmmm now that i think about it....these arms of the caretaker are plain white sleves....no such sleves exist in the egyptian theme...they all have gold stipes on them...I wander where is it from......it'll come to me eventually....

thanks 8-) 8-)

What an amazing story Sir Wolf! :o
I am sorry I am on vacation and was not able to read it sooner. :)

I really loved it!
And I agree with Justindo,
The Egyptians need a little more to do then fight off a few measly bandits. :hmm:
Send the Romans in! >:D

Great Photostory Wolf Knight!   :)9 :)9 <:> <:> :wow: :wow: :egypt:

This definitely goes into my favorite top ten Playmofriends photostories.

I think this is the first full story we've had on Playmofriends in the Egyptian theme (i.e. not just photos of sets or collections) and it's great! I'm pleased the bandits were exiled and not sealed up alive in sarcophagi, we all know how that ends up.

The floor works well as a background, the photography is well lit and focussed throughout, the story cracking along at a good pace. Your customs blend in and only a fanatic (i.e. Playmofriend) could spot that they weren't original figures. I don't know where your queen's body & legs come from, but they fit the context well.

There are two schools of design in Photostories, one which creates realistic backgrounds and eliminates all human elements (which I dub the Realist School), and the second that focusses on the klicky action and lets the mind's eye blot out and extraneous details (which I dub the Mentalist School). I lean heavily towards the Mentalist process, partly because it's easier, cheaper and quicker to accomplish a photo story when you don't have to spend weeks setting up, but mostly because that's how children play, letting their imagination fill in the details, following the original thinking of Hans Beck.

I applaud the Realists who have the patience to get every detail right (Tiermann, Playmofire and PlaymoVictorian's photostories are in this school, to name just three of the top of my head), but just as much I enjoy the "quick and dirty" Mentalist stories, which include Rasputin, you and myself.

Hi Martin!!!

So glad you enjoyed this photostory! I consider it my first concluded attempt! I have more of them planned, and already taken a few photos of them but nothing complete, or concluded as this one. Lack of space, time, resources...

Good to know of the different schools too!! I definately like to present them photostories in a Mentalist method, but some of my other stories you would classify them as Realist! You'll see what I mean in the not-so-near future...

As for the egyptian queen, she is actually the special 4546 - Nile Queen (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4546), but with different head, hair, and feet  ;) ! You see even a minor change on the klicky can make things much better!!

Thank you for your feedback once again!!! Much appreciated!!!

I am sure you aren't using your entire bed to sleep in, you can just use 2/3s of it and store the pyramids on the other third *grin*
