Title: The display cabinet at my old room!!!
Post by: Wolf Knight on June 29, 2010, 17:54:30
Before going to Constantinople, I spend a night at my parent house, and of course slept at my old bedroom!!!

In that room I have a cabinet dedicated to my old childhood playmobil!!!! Since I had my camera with me I took a few shots to share with you all!!!!

So from bottom to top we have:

Police vehicles and paramedic vehicle!
3149 - Police Car (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3149)
3144 - Police Helicopter (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3144)
3253x - Police Van (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3253x)

3217x - PKW - Paramedic (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3217x)
a fire truck: this was actually my first playmobil set!!! althought the one in the display case is the classic edition 7786 - Fire Engine (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?set=7786) it still brings back to my mind the day in kindergarden when I got it as a christmas present!!!

next: loads of pirates, soldiers, policemen, the classic edition 7885 - Classic Helicopter (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7885) I had given away the original one years ago, while still in high school, to my nephew... Good to have these classic editions!! Keep them coming playmobil!!!  and a 3521 - School Bus (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3521)

(http://img37.imagefra.me/img/img37/8/6/29/baldthar/f_grpn4ljym_13330d1.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

indians, cowboys, a few other western characters, the legendary (for me at least) 3490 - Hospital Team (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3490) and 3254x - Ambulance (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3254x)

I used to play with the hospital theme so much!! I used to have 6 such 3490 hospital sets!! The operating table, and especially the light over it, was my favorite playmobil item!!!

Its an IKEA cabinet Alex!!! Very usefull and quite cheap (especialy when they have it on sale) !
As for the silver plated knights, I can recall my mother hiding them often so that other children dont get jealous and then have tragic results!!! So thought of them as very special!!!

Jumped the gun with my comment. I am slightly impatient at times.

But coming back to see more of our shared but seperated memories was really enjoyable :-)

And I am still slightly jealous at the silver knights, not going to do anything tragic though!! *smile sweetly*

No I bought them two of three years ago but they still have the same price 45 euros and there are times, around the end of summer, when they sell it for 25!

From all my toys, my mother loved playmobil the most. Nevertheless, in her attempt to make me get over childhood, she thought it would be a great idea to give most of them away to my niece, nephew and some cousins.... All the cabinet klickies and vehicles, apart form the two classic edition ones, are the ones I had as a child!!!
What she did though to my comic books was to throw them away...But I got my revenge back...10.000 comic books are in that same room!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I love vintage stuffs, as I get older and start to get more nostalgic. That SHINY plated knight from the museum is just awesome. And your mom has done a very good job in protecting it, the thing that you still cherish now. I think moms love their kids, so as their toys. My mother is keeping my toys from my childhood, saying they would be great for my kids. I guess only playmobil and lego could live up with such goal. I still have boxes of lego under my bed and up in my wardrobe. Too bad I shifted to lego from playmobil when I was young. What a baaaaad decision it is :-[

I am not surpised at all Wolf Knight. I have bought a number of cabinets from IKEA for the storage rooms we have and they were all made 100% correctly by carpenter with supervision and inspection and have been loaded extensively . No problems or whatsover .. yet .. ( 2 years now)

Probably it is the weight issue? IKEA is quite popular in HK for twenty years. They used to be of very high quality, living up to our expectation on European products. I have been using their stuffs for many years, bookcase, beds and desks. Even in the days in US, I also bought my computer desk and necessities from the only IKEA miles away. And I notice their quality be on the wane since last year, when my home went through thorough renovation and the BILLY case was bought. Would it be cost saving strategy in the Asia market? I actually googled a bit and some people in the West also faced the same problem...bending layering. I guess they are not supposed to hold books, despite being called bookcase :-\ The only two non-bending layers are those without books but PLAYMOBIL ONLY ::)

It is installed by the IKEA staffs too :-\

@ Gioerginetto and Hieronimus: you have someone else put together your IKEA stuff?????

I have bought a lot of billys through the years and they were fine. We have them filled with lots of heavy books, almost no bending. Quality is fine. Although the newest one is some 10 years old by now.

The do not travel wel, though. We threw some out after moving house a couple of times. The became wobly.

and the majority of them are Batman!!! Have you read Batman: Hong Kong? http://www.lovehkfilm.com/features/comic_batman_hk.htm

@ Ali Baba: that is true, even moving them from one room to another makes them loose their regitity!

Yes, they do that in Hong Kong. Since not many people here got their own professional tools. I guess the closest thing we have is a screwdriver :hmm:
