Title: Toyshop bargains
Post by: flatcat on June 24, 2010, 19:39:53
Hello

We were out for the day today, and popped into a small toyshop, and I thought I'd share my latest buys with you.

Firstly two footballer players; from Spain and Germany. I haven't opened them yet but they look great fun, and I have never seen these in a shop before. These cost £3.25 each :)

And lastly is a 3666. We managed to knock £10 of the price, as the original seals were broken, but at close inspection at home, everything appears to be there and all sealed/bundled inside. Ahhh, the smell of fresh steck

I have already got a 3666, which is unboxed and missing 1 figure and a couple of small accessories but includes the instructions if anyone is interested as I don't need two.

Although I havent really decided whether to sell my old one or this one I've just bought as it was a quick decision. What do you think I should do?

Damo :)

Well I don't really need two castles the same, and I have enough Steck to build something with, and plus it keeps Mum happy that when I buy Playmo I get rid of some to make room :)

I use the same ploy with Diane.   :)

Yeah, but why get rid of something the same size and not something smaller?  >:D

Nice buys. Especially the 3666. You´ll be hard pressed to find one over here at a toyshop, still in the box.

I have now decided that I am going to sell my old 3666, which I payed £5 for, and this new one which I payed £110 for, it will balance itself out as I should get £50-£60 for my old one on ebay :)

Primarily I am a modern collector, but I like to have a couple of castles and a few loose Steck parts, but I do not need 2 castles the same :)

I have got too much Steck! ;D

I don't understand, what does this mean ???

It's a variation of an old saying meaning that when the news that you have Steck to get rid of gets out everyone (i.e. lots of people) will be interested.

Ok, I'll get breakfast started for when you arrive! ;D

I don't really know how I managed to get it for £5, but it was collection only, and finished in the middle of the day, and was just a photo of a box of castle parts named 'Playmobil castle' - so I expect that helped, but it was in Kent, so very accessable to people and I'm still sure it should have gone for more, but that was a couple of years ago now.

I wonder how many 3666 castles are still gathering dust on toyshop shelves? I've found them as far apart as Dublin (Ireland) and Eugene (Oregon), but I can't believe there are hundreds just waiting to be discovered by a Playmofriend.

I found one a while back...
I didn't know what it was at the time,
And I haden't brought enough money for somethjing that big...
So I bought a Roman tent instead. ::)

Still, I like the tent as well.

Why not keep both castles and build one large castle? ;)

I'm not allowed  :( - but I still have a large box of Steck anyway so I still have some left over pieces if I want to build anything, but it will mainly be for my modern themed photostorys, setups etc.

Sounds familiar. My collection is also not supposed to spill over into the rest of the house.

these are big sets + expensive and parents don't often buy them especially now that they are not on catalogues or somewhere to be seen by a kid and say "i want that" . last year i bought 6 dollhouses from athens and 2 from an another city in greece .after searching ofcourse from the phone katalogue and internet imagine how many are sitting in toy stores that are not written in the phone katalogue and internet these both the castle and the dollhouse discontinioud in 2004 . how much did a 3666 cost when it was available on stores??

£120 - which is what I would have had to pay if we hadn't have knocked a tenner of the price! :P

What you said is quite right about the big sets, as if the toy shop has had a mad rush when I visit, there is always still large numbers of the more expencive and larger sets, which as you say, parents are less willing to buy, unless it is for a present :)
