Title: Improved Compaction Plate
Post by: flatcat on June 22, 2010, 08:45:16
Hello Playmofriends

Here is the usual Playmobil compaction plate, or whatever you want to call it:

(http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/2882/200911020001.jpg) (http://img27.imageshack.us/i/200911020001.jpg/)

I have always thought it to be a good looking machine, but the handle just doesn't look right, also, because a Klicky can only hold on with one hand.

This is the type I pressume they based it on:

Whether you are supposed to use two hands with this type, which I pressume you would, I still don't think the Playmobil one looks that good.

So here is my revised one, with the handles being from the yellow lawnmower:

(http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/3226/200911020002.jpg) (http://img25.imageshack.us/i/200911020002.jpg/)

The boobles on the handle have to be smoothened off, so that it folds smoothly.

Now compared with the real machine that is more common in the UK:

Bob testing it out:

Thanks for looking,
Damo :)

Simple and clever. It really does make more sense this way. Great custom work Damo and your pictures are as good as ever. I love how Bob is able to help you show stuff of now.

Thanks, Gis! :)

Bob, or I suppose mini Bob, is now my Playmobil's head of construction, and gets to try out all the new machines and custom tools :)

Simple and elegant, Damo.  One lawnmower handle going on my DS order!

(Do you have the part number to hand?)

Hi

I know you want it to look right but if you use the machines the original look is correct. The more expensive machine (your first example) has the controller next to the handle that allows the machine to either compact forward or backwards. The smaller rounded handle acts like a steering wheel for you to turn the 600 pound machine with great ease.

The second example you showed is of a cheaper lighter machine with less controls forcing the operator to man handle the machine, which is why the larger handle is there (more leverage). If you want to change directions you flip the handle to the other side.

With the size relation that Playmobil chose it is of the larger more complex machine.

I know your custom looks like it fits the larger machine as it should have a more complex handle but in this situation less is better.

Oh, OK

It was just an experiment to see what it looked like, and I thought I would share it with you :'(

When we need one at home, we use the old fashioned one (the 2nd one), and that is like a wild horse to control  :whip:
