:-[ i just found this set on the playmo u.s. site that i had never seen before.
 i just find it fantastic although it doesn't belong to my favourite theme - the pirates.
:) so, i decided to start this thread.
:) maybe some of us can post here links or pictures of sets that apparently nobody cares about but that are just beautiful.

That set looks gret and I must get one for my farm before they sell out (although they have been in the UK DS 'last chance to buy' section for about a year now) so no rush ;D
Here is one I found, also in the UK DS 'last chance to buy' section. It is quite a sweet set but last time I checked it was priced at something like £4.50 :o

There are so many sets i really find awesome though i dont buy.. a wise idead would be to buy such sets rather than over and over the same ones ( eg black lion knights, nuremberg guards etc)
i think all the playmobil animals are fantastic and really like the noe's ark...............
-
for some mysterious reason i bought this set last year...The bunny treehouse...I have placed it among other trees and animals, ponds, ducks...and i've also put a few characters of the enchanted forest on the left hand corner...I want to put a green table cloth underneath for a long time now, but somehow I never bothered to do so...
I find it very beautiful and picturesque!!!

At the moment I'm buying lots of things that I perhaps wouldn't otherwise buy because I think they will be good in our exhibition.
But one I did buy that I have always liked but that doesn't really go with anything I have is
the bobsleigh:

I bought the dove cote recently and actually I was disappointed with it because somehow the scale seemed wrong. Admittedly I did have an oak tree delivered the same day and perhaps it was putting the two next to each other that made me think this way.
I have also bought the bunnies' treehouse and love that although not the bunnies, however we went to a 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party' last Sunday and after that I thought I might like one of the bunnies to help make the Alice in Wonderland characters ???

That bobsleigh looks a great little set, but not much fun if you don't have the rest of the winter theme
Perhaps I won't waste my money on the dove cote :-\

Here's one that I really love.
It's a 2004 Easter Egg (4915) from the year that all four easter eggs were jaw-dropping good. The knight was great, the pirate awesome, the Red Lady to die for ...
and somehow, this little gem was passed over and forgotten. I really like her and would love to see more people to do so.

Here's my favourite out of my usual theme set:

It's the beautiful pewter wine flagon and goblets which really makes it for me.

You might have misslinked playmofire?
I did indeed, Gis, and thank you. I'd tried to link directly through Collectobil.
Here's the right link:

Worth the extra wait Gordon! Def a very cool set :-)
The pewter look is certainly cool, also love those barrels. Need them for inns and stuff!
Thanks for sharing

Great sets everone. There are lots, but I really cannot resist the astronauts. I buy one every time I find a more or less complete one. They really remind me of the moonlandings. Great!
They really do not fit in my collection.
Might build them a custom spaceship.

looking at some of the pictures i have saved for no apparent reason there a few more sets i love.
... and they are so far-away form the pirate theme.
i wonder if there is some secret bond that links these sets to one another?
-
Hello
All of the examples everyone showed are all so great and I think this is my problem, everything Playmobil makes is beautiful in some way and quite useful when you collect it all 8} .
PS Cachalote I too wonder what about this "bond" ;)
Rasputin "The Mad Monk"

Actually, I don't think he has. Gordon just wants it all

I find this one hard to answer. Each time I found a set I really liked it often started me collecting a whole new theme. ;D
Here's one that I thought was very cool but didn't get around to buying.

We have that one Sylvia and it IS really cool. They did an excellent job with the dinosaurs..really well made. You can actually make the rocks around the top shoot up in an "eruption".
-
Hmmmm, that makes me think, that volcano will fit in very nicely next to the mediaval dragon rock temple ( the one with the ice prison ) , i reckon they will fit in nicely together as volcanos are often seen in 'evil' or ' bad' kingdoms , locations ( e.g. flash gordon, james bond movies, lord of the rings etc etc )
i want a volcano now !!!! ;D

Rasputin "The Mad Monk"
hello ras, and welcome back.
you've been missed. :)
it is indeed strange what might link sets that are so different. :hmm:
a while ago i wrote that the concept of "heterotopia" (or "otherness") - another space somewhere - could somehow be the link.
in a way, all these sets have the ability to "transport" us (our imagination) to another place.
foucault considers this as a particular kind of heterotopia - http://foucault.info/documents/heteroTopia/foucault.heteroTopia.fr.html - "ça serait l'hétérotopie non pas d'illusion mais de compensations".
but maybe this is going too far in over-analizing things. :P

These are all nice sets, the scarecrow in the dovecote set is a particularly nice piece to have on hand.

That is true cachalote! All sets link together to make an even bigger world!
And this can certainly go up against Bourdieu's Distinction!!! We can distinct playmobil form other toys for many reasosn, each one for their own but shared reason....But it is not easy to distinct one set more from the other...true we all love a certain theme more than another, but when we visit a toy shop, we want to go and have a look over all the playmobil sets because we love them!!!!

Even though i have four pirate sets, medieval and vikings are my main themes. But 3799 is fantastic and could be almost be an illustration from a Robert Louis Stevenson novel. Is is beautiful and my favourite is the hammock, followed by the cave built into the beach. If Playmobil had made a Benbow Inn i think i would buy a lot more pirates.
Abbot Hamilton
-
I had forgotten the Arctic series - yes, those are other favourites outside my theme.
-
I would love that one Abbott Hamilton - I have often admired it.
