Hello Playmofriends
It has obviously been the season for sorting and re-organising in the Playmobil world, and as promised, here are the pics of my recent re-sort and re-orgainise which has gone on for about a couple of months now, but is now all away before my Mum lost the plot completely, as the lounge floor has literally been covered with Klickies and accessories for a couple of weeks now and Mum's aired washing in the corner has now only just been recovered because no-one could get over there 8}
Anyway, here is a tour of what I have done, and hopefully there are some good ideas here, unless I am a bit behind the times :-\
I will start with pics in my bedroom, Jack's room, and then my Playmo area :)
-
Firstly my bedroom.
Right at the end of my bed there is a wood and metal shelving rack, which up until last week I had my fire engines displayed on until I found out that the sun shone right on them every afternoon :0
I needed a new system of storage anyway so I thought why don't I just pack up each set into it's original box and stack them on the unit like my own little shop display, so here it is :)
(http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/6203/200910260007.jpg) (http://img132.imageshack.us/i/200910260007.jpg/)
I didn't want to stray onto the top shelf, but the boxes fit nicely on. Apart from the buildingsand supersets, all these sets were mixed up in large boxes, so the manuals had to be found along with the box in the loft, and every las piece in that set. There are still a few pieces yet to locate, but I am on the lookout :lens:
The first shelf, with my supersets and the smaller sets:
(http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/2746/200910260010.jpg) (http://img30.imageshack.us/i/200910260010.jpg/)
The next shelf down, with the boxes getting slightly bigger. Unfortunately I couldn't have the luxury of organising them into their themes due to the small amount of space :(
(http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/3127/200910260011.jpg) (http://img149.imageshack.us/i/200910260011.jpg/)
The third shelf down. I was always worried about my aeroplane, as it is so big, and can easily get discoloured being stark white, so I was happy when I realised it could be stored back in it's original box :)
(http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/3525/200910260012.jpg) (http://img149.imageshack.us/i/200910260012.jpg/)
The bottom shelf houses the more oblong and rectangular boxes:
(http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/5424/200910260013.jpg) (http://img30.imageshack.us/i/200910260013.jpg/)
I had to spill out onto the bottom of my TV stand. The sets shown make up around 3/4 of my boxed collection, with the ones not here being very large sets, very old sets, or themes such as the new fire theme and construction theme which i like to play with regularly and would be a little tricky to pack back into their original boxes.
(http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/3858/200910260009.jpg) (http://img59.imageshack.us/i/200910260009.jpg/)
On this shelf, I lined up all of my whatever size boxes you would call these. I have put the set number and side image facing outwards for easy recognition:
(http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/6496/200910260005.jpg) (http://img33.imageshack.us/i/200910260005.jpg/)
And to keep the flaps down, a blue paperclip. It's larger size, and being plastic coated means that less damage can be done to the box than using a regular paperclip. Of course the paperclip has to be blue otherwise it won't work ;)
(http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2527/200910260006.jpg) (http://img59.imageshack.us/i/200910260006.jpg/)
My specials shelf. I bought this a couple of weeks ago from a local charity jumble sale for £2. It is a perfect fit for Klickies, unless you are an American Indian, a magician, or are holding a tall flag, then ou have no choice but to stand on the top shelf:
(http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/6885/200910260004.jpg) (http://img52.imageshack.us/i/200910260004.jpg/)
My desk area is still very messy. Hopefully I can pursuade my parents to put up a shelf for me in which I can store/display my old western buildings.
(http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/8137/200910260002.jpg) (http://img149.imageshack.us/i/200910260002.jpg/)
The large boxes are great for storage, and in them I have my circus in the top one, my mega farm set in the middle one, and then my mega transport set and dismantled yellow gantry crane in the bottom one. In the steel box I keep my very special sets, and old sealed sets away from, welll, practically everything. Again they have to be blue otherwise they wouldn't work, and Playmobil would keep falling out ;)
(http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/7830/200910260034.jpg) (http://img149.imageshack.us/i/200910260034.jpg/)
On the top of my bookcases, I have made two displays - my pirate ship, and my rally theme. Here is my Pirate ship. This is the only place where the harbour crane can stand because it is very tall and would NEVER in a million years go back into it's original box!
(http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2549/200910260015a.jpg) (http://img59.imageshack.us/i/200910260015a.jpg/)

Next onto Jack's room: :-\
In here I have a very large wooden shelving unit, in which much Playmobil is stored. In the half size red and blue boxes are Western forts, the yellow one contains the new construction theme, the large blue one Pirates, and the green and purple ones are Western. Because only a couple of my western sets are boxed, I have orgainised the loose sets into individual zippy pags to keep them together. My only Western train lives under my bed as it is such a large box.
(http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/9869/200910260031.jpg) (http://img24.imageshack.us/i/200910260031.jpg/)
In front of the unit, in this large purple box, live all of my complete vehicles that are either unboxed or are missing their acessories/Klickies enabling them to be complete sets:
(http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6342/200910260014.jpg) (http://img24.imageshack.us/i/200910260014.jpg/)
On his wardrobe, in the big red box are all my RC train accessories that go with my train (extra track, station, level crossing etc). In the clear blue box next door lives my Britains fam collection if you were wondering:
(http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/1526/200910260032.jpg) (http://img535.imageshack.us/i/200910260032.jpg/)
-
And lastly onto my Playmobil area in the shed. This shed is divided into a workshop (through a door on the left), gym (where I'm standing), and craft area (to the right) for Mum. But here is my area:
(http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1383/200910260018.jpg) (http://img155.imageshack.us/i/200910260018.jpg/)
It can get quite cold in there in winter, so no manuals or blue boxes are kept out here.
Here is my bench which is rather messy. Here I do my Playmobil customs, and work with other models and electonics:
(http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/7466/200910260020.jpg) (http://img535.imageshack.us/i/200910260020.jpg/)
Here are some drawer units on my bench, and my small keyring collection comprising of two (hanks, Gordon) which I hung up on small nails on the wall of the workshop.
(http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/1227/200910260021.jpg) (http://img261.imageshack.us/i/200910260021.jpg/)
In the large drawer unit, I store medium sized vehicle parts, and in the small draws I store small vehicle parts:
(http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/5339/200910260029.jpg) (http://img31.imageshack.us/i/200910260029.jpg/)
Under my bench, I have put an unwanted shelving unit from my bedroom, in which boxes are stored. the blue baskets on the top store motorbikes, loose animals, and finally on the end, my crossroads set.
The red box stores all my loose accessories, and the blue box on the bottom shelf contains unboxed complete/incomplete sets which I have bagged up into individual zippy bags to keep the parts together. I have had a bit of trouble with the red box lately, because I keep going in there an finding accessories all over the floor :hmm:
(http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/8379/200910260027.jpg) (http://img32.imageshack.us/i/200910260027.jpg/)
Also under neath is a pink :hmm: plastic drawer unit which holds Klickies and accessories from various modern themes. From the top: assorted modern spares, arctic dinosaur expedition, airport, Playpeople circus, hospital, playground. As you can see there are still some containers of bits to file away:
(http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/3751/200910260028.jpg) (http://img691.imageshack.us/i/200910260028.jpg/)
On top of the large wood/metal unit (matches the one in my bedroom) I have my old construction on diplay which hasn't changed:
(http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/3592/200910260022.jpg) (http://img24.imageshack.us/i/200910260022.jpg/)
On the next shelf down I have my small draws for tiny tiny parts such as cuffs, hairs, footwear etc. The Klickies on top are all waiting for an operation of some kind (NHS of course) ;)
(http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/5986/200910260023.jpg) (http://img683.imageshack.us/i/200910260023.jpg/)
And finally just piles of tut:
(http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/9893/200910260024.jpg) (http://img683.imageshack.us/i/200910260024.jpg/)
In front of the unit stand two large wheeled boxes. These used to hold loose vehicles etc, but now they are all put up into Jack's room in the purple box. In the top one are fort spares and in the bottom one is Steck spares:
(http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/9130/200910260019.jpg) (http://img24.imageshack.us/i/200910260019.jpg/)
In the corner, the pine wall unit has stayed pretty much the same, except for the middle shelf, where my specials used to be, I have now put my Playpeople police and ambulance:
(http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/5263/200910260026.jpg) (http://img31.imageshack.us/i/200910260026.jpg/)
And on the bench in the corner stands my rock castle:
(http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/4181/200910260025.jpg) (http://img823.imageshack.us/i/200910260025.jpg/)
Below the bench there are more boxes of tut. The blue wheeled unit stores spare modern themed Klickies. The multi-coloured unit in front is my western unit, and stores spare Western accessories Klickies, and carts etc. I spare keep hats and clothing in the sweetie tin.
(http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/4620/200910260030.jpg) (http://img517.imageshack.us/i/200910260030.jpg/)
So that is the result of my massive re-orgainise, and hopefully a few tips can be gained for yourselves.
BTW, thaks for everyone's help identifying parts earlier, and if anyone wants the Pirate ship then please let me know.
And after that I never want to see another Klicky again 8}
Thanks
Damo :)

Damo congratulations on your re-organisation project!!! I love organising, re-organisisng and re-re-organising my collection!!!
Three rooms!!! wow!!! that is a lot of playmobil!! I was happy to notice quite older sets too!!!
Your idea of the clip system on the boxes is amazing!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
Oh and its so great that you have the original, the very first, pirate ship playmobil ever made...still missing that one...
-
Congratz on finishing your project Damo!! What an amazing collection you have. So many things where I go "OOO' or "AAAH" at, it's just awesome :-)
On the one hand I am looking forward for our sorting to begin on the other hand it's such a daunting task that I am a bit scared of it.
It's great to see how you have sorted everything, I always find that storing always so expensive and such a waste: "I could have spend it on more PM" Oh well we all know it's a necessary evil of any collection.
And could you please tone down on the swearing next time: "And after that I never want to see another Klicky again" *wink*
-
That's a great and well-organised system, Damo. It gives me some ideas for my collection when we move. And the paper clip idea is excellent. So thank you for very useful topic and for the humorous way you did it.
-
Nice job organizing, flatcat! I need to do the same!
-
Looks great, Flatcat. Much more organized than my collection.
I used to have a pirateship like that (type 1, the original one). Sold it in my late teens. I think I need to find another one, so my life will be whole again.

Hello
Thanks for sharing the pictures of your beautiful collection. It brings me relief knowing there are other nuts out there with similar conditions as I have  It just looks like such a fun place to play.
