Title: Its time for my crisis....
Post by: Wolf Knight on June 13, 2010, 15:23:12
My current flat is small but I am able to dedicate a whole room to my collection which needs to be organised.

I do not have all my playmobil collection here with me. About half of it is still at my parental home... I hope once I manage to organise what I have here, that I will be able to bring some more...

I am planning to fill this empty wall with IKEA shelves...
(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/6/6/13/baldthar/f_grpn4lctm_c3b959d.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)
and start setting up whats it the bags on them...

I will connect the new shelves to these ones next to my desk and expand them...
(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/6/6/13/baldthar/f_grpn4ldnm_2b7c950.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

The other side of the room is already shelved but, there is still a significant amount of bags at the floor...
(http://img40.imagefra.me/img/img40/6/6/13/baldthar/f_grpn4lcum_5ff8a82.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

And probably a few more of these see-through cubical boxes won't hurt...the ones you see steck pieces inside...

That is still very organized.  It will look great with new IKEA shelves!   :D

I like your Batman poster.  Batman is my favorite superhero.

I like your Batman poster.  Batman is my favorite superhero.

Strangely, it is organised...althought there is a box full of unsorted, mixed up parts and accessories!!!

Batman is my favourite hero too...although i would not call him super... I have about 200 action figures and of course, I've been collecting every comic book since 1989....so that makes it about 10.000 or so comic books (those too at my parental house...)

Stay tuned for the pictures in progress everyone... ;)

Thank you Giorginetto!!

So, I manage to leave work a little earlier, went to IKEA, bought the shelves and got down to bussines... I should have taken a picture of them while still on the floor...the were covering the whole surface floor!

(http://img37.imagefra.me/img/img37/8/6/14/baldthar/f_grpn4ldom_87d389a.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

Also bought a few more square boxes to store steck.... now they total 10 boxes of steck (of course there are more in the livingroom, and bigger...) and four more with various sets, parts and items...

I am slowly organising the shelves into themes... like my specials, roman, egyptians (not all of them here)
(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/8/6/14/baldthar/f_grpn4ldpm_917bc10.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

A wonderful collection, Panos, and well-organised.  My collection really is in a crisis of disorganisation.

Thank you Gordon!! I always like organisation!! I tend to organise and reorganise my stuff loads of times...clearing out things I do not need, separating, categorising, bringing new stuff in.... So much excitement...I should have become a librarian or a museum expert......

I always wanted to become an archaelogist and especially an egyptiologist...(I still cannot realise how I ended up studying anthropology....) so now I have a chance to organise my Egyptians and Romans!!

Not to get too personal, but how do you explain this to anyone who might drop by?
The first flat I had on my own had a small room which off the living room with a closing door where I could hide my toys if someone came by who didn't yet know of my... hobby.

Not at all Coyote!
By now, anyone who is related to me knows of my collection, obsession, and passion...Just like Batman and comic books! If a new person enters my life, I for sure let them know from the beggining a little bit about my collection! The rest they learn as we go along...

Just got back home!!!

I 've brought a big bag full of playmobil from my parental home!!! And as you can see my Isis has already check them out and approved...
(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/8/6/16/baldthar/f_grpn4ldum_944cd2c.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)
(now moving along to check if her crazy owner has brought anything else home...

In the bag the playmobil are already sorted out in categories (this is supposedly making it easier to reorganise) but i think I'll make a mess and empty most of them in my miscellaneous box and sort them out again!!!! ;D ;D ;D

Oh and as I am writting this down, Isis had decided to get into the bag....

Oh this girl really loves playmobil like myself!!!!

I sure liked seeing your collection photos and how the improvements came to be  :)9 I could never bring myself to buy such nice looking shelfs. I stand in a store and have the same conversation in my head. "well the self is $xx and that could buy that one Playmobil set I always wanted, I know I will build my own ugly shelfs and camouflage it will beautiful toys"

Thanks for taking the time to show your collection and the updates  :wow:

Hi Ras!!! I realise you've been away for some time! Good to have you back! I have read quite a lot of your posts here and really enjoyed them!

I know your sentiment about the shelves... I did pay 24.99 for each coloumn of five shelves....money I could spend on more playmobil...But I need to have them on a good display when I do not play with them, customise them, and generally have fun and creative time with them!!!

Isis is a great cat!!! She may look angry but once you see those big round eyes close you'll adore her!!!!   And she never stops purring!!!

Yes she is Alex!!! She will be two years old next october! She is an amazing cat!!!!

Well, the bag has a few cannons and catapults, the viking tents and boats, furniture from the fairy tale castle, loads of plants and trees, roman and egyptian parts, western and indian items (including a teepee), horses, all my roman legionaries and preatorian guards, and finally, loads of older playmobil spare items from various sets (police, hospital, circus, horse riding, playgrounds, road works etc etc!!!) So yes! Loads and loads of work...but a happy one!!!

But.............WHY ARE THE ARAB WARRIORS IN THE BACK????

Of is it because they are chasing these unwashed barbarians into the abyss?

...they are watching every move of the enemy closely and when the time is right...

And of course they have a most capable leader....

 I'm honored, Wolf Knight!  My "customs" just made sense to me:  match colors and rank the men based on ornateness!  Actually, I might be indebted to Martin, as I think he customized some of his royal Egyptians before me and I'm sure I borrowed something from him. ;)

Your shelves and klickies look great!

They are not many but I did try to maintain a hierarchical organisation!!!

Caesar is enjoying the company of the Queen of Egypt at his ten, which is protected by the Praetorian Guard! The battle towers are used as watching point to the surrounding area at the moment...

The cavalry can be seen clearly...and the legionaries are ready to start formations... ;D ;D ;D

Your Romans are magnificent, Wolf Knight!  You've got everything you need:  two centuries of legionaries with their centurions, optios, and signifiers; a century of Praetorians with their centurion and optio; auxiliary cavalry; archers in the siege towers; two staff officers; and the emperor and Cleopatra in their luxurious tent!

Is the red staff officer in command of the legionaries and the purple staff officer in command of the Praetorians?  Who is in command of the cavalry?  I'm using the yellow helmet crest for my auxiliary cavalry officers, and I think it works well.

Thank you Justindo for pointing out all the terms and structure!!!

You are correct about the two mounted staff officers at the back! I was planning to use the yellow helmet crest for the cavalry but prefered to place him with the legionaries... The officer in charge, alghtough not wearing a helmet crest, is this one...
(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/8/6/22/baldthar/f_grpn4liwm_df03549.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

Now that you pointed out the yellow crest,
(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/8/6/22/baldthar/f_grpn4lixm_e81941c.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)
...i think a little customisation is in order...so that the two of them can combine...maybe with another torso...

Awsome Wolf Knight! ;D ;D ;D
I love seeing the Romans!!! They were a great theme, and I am sorry to see them go.

Your army is quite large Wolf Knight...
They might have a chance against mine! >:D
You do have an advantage over mine:
Archers and Cavalry.
Which (used correctly) could decimate my forces! :o
Also, you have an advantage with your Chariots, as they out-number mine.

But my main resorce is my superiority in Infantry! ;D
Maybe though it is time to invest in more Cavlary... :hmm:

It would be great if we could meet and have a Roman Civil War! ;D ;D ;D
Then we could sort this out! >:D
(Just kidding! (Not about the Civil War though!))

Otherwise we would each be wiped out in no time.

only problem is I now need to spend a few more on strorage boxes...I do not like these drawers as I cannot see whats in them (ok I can sure label them) but they do not fit in the playmoden, especially since I have placed most of the parts in square see-through boxes...

Finally I am about to finish with the American Indian shelve... One more tipi to assemble, a couple of klickies to arrive on the mail and everything will be ready...

As for the drawers, one set is emptied and put on see-through square boxes...I am bringing in my system-x pieces and a few more items from my parental house...the playmoden is slowly becoming a playmowarehouse... I wander, when will be everything be completely organised?

Ok crisis update people!!! I had (still have) a drawer full of klickies
(http://img02.imagefra.me/img/img02/8/7/17/baldthar/f_grpn4pkwm_03ef741.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)
..now most of them are klickies I have three, four or up to 10 times so they need to be organised.... specials, pirates, knights, vikings, roman...

I've categorised them into these groups, and those that I managed to complete are now residing in plastic zip bags at the plastic box in the floor...
(http://img02.imagefra.me/img/img02/8/7/17/baldthar/f_grpn4pkvm_ad9fb1b.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)
Its a shame to see them like this... but I already have all of them on the shelves in the playmoden...

I also like to customise a lot...(you all know that) so please forgive me for the next picture... and divert children eyes off your monitor...

.......

(http://img02.imagefra.me/img/img02/8/7/17/baldthar/f_grpn4pkum_bae5ca2.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)
Its an image to shock I am sure... and I am ashamed of it...but soon these will make new klickies, new characters and they will all have a great time!

That is not all...at the same time I am reorganising my accessories drawers on my desk...
(http://img38.imagefra.me/img/img38/8/7/17/baldthar/f_grpn4pktm_db54dbd.jpg) (http://imagefra.me/)

so, still lot to be done!!!

Well, what can I say? I am a freak for organisation.... When I need a part i really know where to find it immediately...
I bought three more of these red mini drawers (plased them on top of the three already existing ones) and big plastic containers for the klicky parts...I almost did it!!!

Finally managed to organise the American Indian shelve a little better...

I've placed all three teepees with different shields over the entrance to indicate the different people occupying it. Behind the totem pole is the shaman's teepee, while left the chief's teepee (grey hair squaw being his wife) and on the right the chief's son teepee (his wife and daughter at the entrance)!

You will see the chief and the shaman (or medicine man if you prefer) in front of the totem pole..while two warrior parties come are returning from their hunts of reconnaissance mission (you choose) and in one of them is the chief's son...can you spot him? just match the shield... ;)

You will also see two buffalos behind fense...I know thats not correct but I thought it would look good...

Elaine, Exactly my point!! Although I do not worry about the dust a lot..I keep the balcony door and shades closed and i devote a whole morning once per month to the process of undusting.... What worries me is moving them around to find the right piece, especially in the boxes, for my projects...

WOW! It's so organized! Glad I don't have to do that yet. :P
(The one thing I don't mind about not having as large an army as I want)

I never have to dust mine... except for my Ship,
That always gets dusty.
But the rest of my Palymobil I play with too often to get dusty. ;D

2nd attachment...still need to put them in plastic boxes and on shelves for easier access...horses, ship parts, vikings, gauls, system x castle parts, western fort parts...
3rd attachment... system x parts from western forts, castle, pirate islands, viking long house

2nd attachment: drawers with old western parts, system x connectors and parts, medieval furniture, DS sets still baged, ladders, steck parts for ruins, chests for treasures, instructions, etc etc...

These would be great if they were in plastic boxes and on shelves...

I but I do!! Especially because I stash one box on top of the other!!!

I got them from Praktiker!!! Much greater selection of such boxes there, as opposed to Ikea!!!

When I get back home I'll take some pics of each different box with prices!

Ok so as per Giorginetto's request, these are the boxes I am using, until this moment that is, to store playmobil

1st attachment is a 34,5 litre box with dimensions 42x35,5x33 cm.... these cost around 8 euros in praktiker and I use them to store big parts and items from various sets or whole sets together, like the dragon temple, and any steck part appart form steck walls and steck connectors

2nd attachment I use curver plastic boxes 45 litres dimentions 394x598x273 (i am not sure what type of mesurement this is) for my steck walls and steck connectors, as well as system x parts their cost is around 20 euros

3rd attachment i am not sure as to the mesures and storage capability of these but they cost 4,9 and they are really great for storing either parts of a single theme, for example western rifle holders, chairs, tables, canoos, or multiples of the same item like horses for example...

Its been some time since I posted here...

I thought I'd solve this crisis but guess what? It got worse... I really hated those brown plastic drawers anyway, so most of what was in them ended up in bags on the floor... and in these three big containers in the hallway... I am thinking of getting more plastic boxes to clean up the mess...

Plastic boxes is a fine solution, they have plenty of space, you can see inside without open the cover, they stored without needed so much space like shelfs and also keep the dust away.

Yeah I know, the rest of the room is full of them  ;D

It just that, like others, I'd prefer to give the money for the boxes to buy more playmobil...

Tell me about it ::) They want like £8 for a box here. It pains me having to spend money like that on storage, when I could be spending it on Playmobil!

Wolf, if I understood correctly, you customize your klickies, right? But looking at the pic above, do you use those pliers to dismantle them? Just pull the head out with the pliers?

So far I've been able to dismantle my klickies with the rubber band method (and even once using the "hans on" method, but never was able to replicate the feat). The rubber band works perfectly if there's no neck/sholder part, but with the knight klickies and their armor it's always harder. If I could use pliers I think it would be soooo much simpler.

When you try the hans-on method, do you place the cardboard between the torso and legs? It gives you better leverage. That's the only method I ever use.

I thought you're supposed to hit their butts down, that's why you need the cardboard in place between the legs and the torso.

Keep their wigs on, bend them with the cardboard slid in between the legs & torso, place their heels against another piece of cardboard on the floor, take a towel & cover their head & wig, next smack down on the head. Be careful with the Klicky's with boots that are glued from factory, they may snap off needing to be reglued.

Should the ladies with long skirts be done this way?  I always seem to break off the top part of the frame with these.
Also should the arms be straight down or forward, or does it not matter?

I was always holding the klicky and then smacking it down (just like the video - that's how I was able to do it that one time). I have to try this way of smacking on the klicky while it's "seated" on the floor.

Well, to answer Primus question (does your name have to do anythig with this guy by the way? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primus_(Transformers) ;) )I use both hans-on method as Bonnie and Bill descride. Arms over the head, place the klicky in a sitting position with the piece of cardboard between legs and torso, hit the klicky on the floor but on its heels...

As for the pliers, be sure to make the pliers as less sharp as possible, place it right above the neck, make sure it has good catch on the base of the head, but withoud squeezing, and pull, again without squeezing... it might take some time, you might hurt a klicky and most definately watchout not to hurt yourself, and make sure you pull sideways... to tell the truth, my elbow joint hurts from all this pulling....

The rubber band method has never worked for me...

Bill, thank you for your nice comments... I hope one day I'll be able to make a good steck castle/medieval town!
