Title: Zoo 52 - Slowly starting up
Post by: Gis on May 19, 2010, 01:16:52
So me and my wife are working on making a Zoo. We have made some small starts over the last three years but now we are really getting going.

On of the things that we do have though is the entrance I will shoot some pictures next week. But I thought I start this now because I am a master at procrastinating!

A couple of years ago we managed to buy at 50% of a lot of system X, 2 Cafe (3245), Supermarket (3200) and the Large City House (3988) We have combined those four boxes into a very nice Zoo entrance including a office space, gift shop, information services, two cash desks (from 4402) and a food outlet.

As building a Zoo housing all Plamobil Animals is quite a task we have a hard time wrapping our heads arounf the project and finding a starting place...well apart from the entrance! But we are going for it and all advice is welcome.

-Gis

PS Managed to get another Large City House on E=bay as well as a second Big Zoo (3240) so we're going to have lots of fun building with System X

Thanks a lot for the tip Playmofire. Have had this site bookmarked already. It's a great tool!

I am really hoping to get some time for snapshots...but We will be gone for the weekend. I'm quite anxious to post pics. I guess I'll have to sacrifice sleep again.

26 hour days...where can I sign up?

I would suggest working at it like this...

You have the entrence,
Now make the first exibit the tourists will see.
After that go for the second and so on... That is how I like to do things.

Another way I like doing things is getting the biggest exibit finished,
And surround it with all the smaller little exibits over time.

I would think the second one sounds best for this type of project.

Thanks a lot for the tip WoT. Our initial plan was to do the first. However at the moment just getting started is already something. I think we will just focus on building two exibits and build those up and see from there!

My wife has a hard time grasping the whole project so starting with something she likes to work on most should help IMO!

That sounds like a good idea Gis, you might also think of setting an exit or some other place holder to establish the outside perimeter of the zoo so you don't expand in too carefree a fashion.

You know, it just struck me...there is no big zoo, if any, in my country...only wildlife reserves....so i'll be visiting your zoo regularly Gis!!! :) :) :)

Gepetto, well we have BIG ideas and little space. So my plan is to set up maybe a Quarter (maybe less) of the Zoo first take pictures and then continue. I think that specifically is not easy. We will see, there are loads of ideas in my head at least, guess with which exhibit I start? *wink*

Thanks a lot for the ideas.

WK: I am sure we will do year long passes too. *GRIN*

You're more then welcome anytime. but it might be a "bit" boring the first few times you come.

And maybe you have no Zoo but you do have a PM Funpark. I only realized that 3 hours before my flight from Athens was leaving *grumble* I guess next time ey!

Hello Gis,

I really like what you have done so far, those ticket counters and the gift shop, very nice, but you're right, it will get big quick!

Gis this is great so far!!! Well done!!! The entrance gives away a feeling that whoever gets into your zoo is in for the experience of a lifetime  :D :D :D I never would have thought that regular system x buildings would look so great!!!

Thanks Gepetto, yeah I am expecting it to get big and a long project but thats the fun right. We don't have that much time to devote to PM but I guess the more we start working on it the higher the priority will get.

WK: Thanks a lot for the kind words. We are realy aiming to make it like that fore ourselves as well, an experience of a lifetime :-)

We also have a victorian fence to use which we are planning to set before the entrance. Will also get another 3299 so will have more fun with it before it's officially done :-)

Unforunately we are going away for the weekend so I won't be able to scratch my itch, although the weekend is going to be loads of fun so I shouldnt be complaining.

So after my weekend away, I had a nice big box waiting for me. It contained the other 3988 (for some reason I listed 3299 in my previous post), a 3667+3665 and some small animals. So yay for me first PM castle (already waiting for another 3667 and a 3666). But for the Zoo the 3988 was what I was waiting for.

I changed the office so that it now has two of those windows on the top floor giving it a lot more natural light so a better place to work in.

I also decided to get rid of 30 07 352 (Roof panel, curved (with skylight)) Which was dominating the left side of the building and replaced it with the other roof elements that come with 3988.

Hopefully there will be some time this weekend to start more serious work on the Zoo. I will post pictures of the updated entrance for sure though!
