Hello Playmofriends!!!
You all remember this set... 3669 - Knight (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3669)
I often wandered why did not playmobil produce a golden dragon for these knights, we had the green and the red and the black (who was quite a loner i think since he had no knights related to appart form the one he was fighting) and all of them had their knights....after seeing a golden dragon in the macgayverplaymobil site (Hi Michael thank you for that inspiration) I thought why not????
So here are is my golden dragon, along with his dark knights...

Here posing with the leader of the group...

...who always likes to pet him....

in greece there are plenty of red dragons of that type in the stores the green is rare but it's available on the ds if i remember well !!!!!!!! about the black one nobody would buy it so they stopped producing this >:D although check his price on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Playmobil-Spezial-Auflosung-Sammlung-5732-Schwarzer-Dra-/390192436056?cmd=ViewItem&pt=DE_Allesf%C3%BCrKind_Spielzeug_Playmobil&hash=item5ad9481358 :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

The red version is more available here in old stock inventory sources, too. The horrible chicken red dragon whose wings kept popping off was considered a failure in this country! The black dragon is my second favorite after the original green one !
Panos, you may want to put tiny black dots for pupils on the purple eyes to give them character! Try using a fine point black permanent magic marker to see if it looks the way you want it to.

Very nice job on the dragon Panos! I don't recall seeing the black dragon, though the knight would be of more interest to me. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Hi Michael!!  Glad you did!!!

Very nice paint job Sir Knight !!! I have 7 green dragons and a red one , was very keen on the black one , but its silly money at the moment. The green dragons are the flying squadrons of my Dragon's Army headed by the dark baron ( wizard and warlord )

Your evil leader sounds cooler thn mine...I've never thought of giving him any wizard/magic powers...
I would think the red or black dragons to be evil...green dragons (again based on fantasy literature) are good by nature...unless you can control them to make evil deeds...
I only have one green dragon...one red, one black...and a gold one :D :D :D
-
I have one green one. :)
I afree with Wolf Knight!
Green dragons are good dragons. Red and black are bad.

I have given this issues/ question a lot of thought. I decided years ago to use the rock temple and the green fragon knights in combo with the yello dragon classic knights .. combining these forces makes sense, as you might have sen in my creations i have combined two baron's castles and the rock temple plus all the klickies of both armies as the main defiant and enemy of the king of the land. My evil warlord is the 3932 wizard . i think its a good klicky for this role !!!! i can wait to set both armies opposite each other, though the dragon army is also allies with the vikings and some other mediaval klickies
-
Interesting scenario Giorginetto!!! I like the idea of this wizard as an evil one...although i picture him with a different head...the one with the ''anrgy'' eybrows...there is one in this tanned playmobil face version!!!
I also like the idea of the two combining armies...In my world, i think of the green dragon and his troops as a purifying force...They always appear when things and times are really grim to ballance the scales, not in favour of good or bad... but just bring ballance between two opposing forces...
-
I think both ideas are Awsome Giorginetto and Wolf Knight...
But I picture them as good knights, to serve under the might of their god.
The god of forests and trees, who gives them power over beasts!
Even the most ferocious... such as the Dragon! :o

Very nice man! What kind of paint did you use or did I miss that?

Thank you Elric! I used a water based spray called ''hobby colors''.
-
I came across this one, and even though it's not all that old, I hadn't seen it; it's from shortly before I joined, so I thought I'd bump it!
Panos, what a beautiful dragon! Very nice paint job and choice of colors. The purple eyes and claws are just the right touch. It's really great!
-
Thank you Bonnie! I am glad you liked him!!! ;D
-
Oh, lovely (the petting pic is AWESOME)
Now I WANT A GOLD DRAGON TOO!! :hissyfit:
Is there a special type of paint? Does it "hold" - as in can you tub him with the others and they don't get all golden?
We never actually painted anything... but we have several green ones..
The tricky part is to take him apart first... I am sure I have a pic of him taken apart, I'll have a look... Once figure out how to take him apart it is easy to do it again... if you remember how to that is... and I dont :-[ But when I find the pic, I'll post it here and I'm sure it'll come back to me.
As for the paint, you paint each part seperately, in three or four thin layers, on each side... waiting to dry and then you put it back together... you best leave it for a few days, maybe a week, untouched, after that, as time passes by, the paint is better solidified on the plastic and, unless you scratch it off on purpose, its not coming off in tubs, nor left on other items... I think I used a water based colour spray for thins one...
-
Very impressive custom Sir !!!!
-
Ok, tahra, here it is... poor beasty... but I think it was worth it... I now recall once you take the arms off, then its easier for the whole thing to come apart...
Thanks George!
-
Thanks - will look into it! :)
-
(double post)
I gave the arms a pull today and nothing happened.. But from the pic it looks like it's that way, just pull..
Can you confirm that (if you remember?)
-
Yes thats it, just pull and it comes off easily... maybe try pulling a little harder?
-
Will do! :)
-
Ok, removed the arms and the head...
But how did you take out that part between the arms?
And.. aren't the two halves of the body welded?
-
Love your color choices! The purple goes well with everything, and the gold body is perfect. Very nice custom! ;D ;D ;D
-
Popped! ;D
(my dad got to him.. ;) )
Now, need paint...
Will try to keep the rubber feet and the eyes original...
-
Hey! My two cents here: Tahra, when you buy that paint, grab a can of varnish too. No risk the paint comes off after one or two coats of varnish (I prefer matt or satin varnish, but glossy might add to the shine!)
Great customs Panos, BTW.

Will do :)
My sister used some acrylic paints in the past, and was also mentioning the varnish... Matte will probably be better, I think...
-
This golden dragon is just superb , look forward to see more of him in your photo stories sire!!!

Thats a godd advise Arnaud, I've painted a fair a mount of items but never bothered with varnishing them... I guess I handle them so carefully the paint never gives away...

outstanding job, Panos
