Title: Boxed sets in your collection???
Post by: Wolf Knight on March 25, 2010, 18:56:26
I always get nostalgic of the time I used to get into a toy store 10 or 20 years ago and look at all the playmobil boxes, the one on top of the other....I still have dreams about it...
Althought I can still do this today, I cannot see the sets that I used to love so much in a toy store any more. And remember, the older playmobil boxes were so beautiful because of the dioramas in the back and the sides...
I descided to start collecting older sets in their original boxes and promised myself never to open them just to keep the feelings satisfied! These two arrived yesterday...

So, any boxed sets in you collection whose pictures can stir memories???

this is right i am disapointed as well that i don't see an artwork in the boxes of the new toys, they are making them with the computers now  and photoshop.they want the boxes to be practical the pictures on the back of the boxes is not needed because a plan with the contents replased it because it was difficult especialy in the big sets to see the contents only from the front of the box. the playmobil doesn't care of what we like  they look of what children want to see as every industry is looking the of group of people is going to sell!!!!

Boxes these days lack the magic and great pictures that old sets had. I recently bought a 3445 and here are a couple of old pictures. I have some quite old catalogues and old boxes and the pictures on them are fantastic !!! Here is a sample of the pictures from the 3445 . I have a big box full of instructions ( over 400 i think) , catalogues from the 80s and 90s and 00s, posters ( i love the mediaval and western posters of the 90s !!!!) and i will be taking some pictures of them sometime in the future.

Very nice pictures Giorginetto :)9!!! I love these dioramas!!!   I am so sad that I lost most of my older boxes in a flood... :'( :'( :'( the pirate island and ship, the prison tower...

These older boxes makes me feel more nostalgic. Newer boxes help me identify what parts I need in my collection.

I do agree that modern boxes lack imagination. But think about a child today at the age of ten getting one of these new sets. Modern boxes will have the same effect to him/her later on in life as the older boxes have on us today. Why? Because he/she was amazed with the colors, or connects the box with the time/date/person that bought it for him/her, or he/she wants to feel the same feeling connected to that box.

yes this is correct that it could be her first toy at christmas that her parent's bought it and would be emotionally connected to it. but the old sets can't be connected with the new one!!

That's a beautiful scene Wolf Knight!

Although i'm not sure that a whole side of a timber building would be able to be lifted off like that in real life during a fire ;D

I have lots of older boxed sets in my collection but the one that I like the most is from a used 3750 box that I sold on ebay.

I like it because of the battle damage that has been done to the ship on the left.

No they are not playmobil. They are toylines in the 80's, and still are, based on the cartoon series from Hasbro. They even produced movies last year...

You grew up in the 90's right? I guess that is why you dont know them.
Greek toyshops stopped importing these toys and there were no cartoons of them shown on tv those years...this is still the case...

Lyra produced palymobil sets from 1977 to 1985 when Playmobil Hellas took over.
There were two series. One that was using exaclty the same boxes as german playmobil and the qualith was the same....
The second series used a slightly lower quality plastic and different boxes. I have opened a few buckets and the matterian unfortunately was laghable....the us cavalry cannon bx, i have never opened it, so i am no sure how it looks like...
Title: Re: Boxed sets in your collection???

i don't think they were the same quality but i haven't seen any lyra toy with originall german box. i had as a kid many lyra playmobil , i bought them at 1998!!!! ??? i think the lyra disign boxes must have stopped producing  in 1990.i have too many small boxes of the one or two figures and a  bank. they were from very bad quality and even some  Mangled i didn't play with them most of them are thrown away i only have the boxes .the boxes are kept because they could open- close and i could put things on them.

I have never come across one the 8 years or so i buy stuff on ebay. Actually one of my best friends ( who gave me all his klickies ) had one of these sets, bought it in 1980 or so  and i remember us playing with it , shame his brother destroyed the wagon etc and only some of the soldiers and horses and stuff were absorbed into my collection. One think for sure if Playmobil made such old klickies as the Nuremberg guards ( they have the Nuremberg emblem) they would sell thousands through their spares catalogues - i would buy  at least 400-500 of these awesome klickies , someone tell Geobra to make them again !!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Totally with you there Giorginetto!!! A huge lot of Nuremberg guards would be fantastic!!!
Lucky you have a friend to give you his old playmobil... Noone gave me theirs no matter how hard i begged for it...not even my cousins... mostly because they do not want to get in the process of start looking for it in attics or basements....

I have no idea why they stoped producing them.... They were briliant at that time....And these knights were in all the medieval sets and castles apart from the civilian set klickies!!!

I love those old klickies!
Unfourtunatly I have none, but my cousins who were collecting long before I was even born have several, and lots of shiney armor! :D
I see them once every 2 years or so, so I don't get to play with all of their klickies very often...
But when I do I am amazed at the stuff they have! :o
They have lots of civilians and farming tools and stuff.
They have many old (and what we may consider rare items) that they do not even know about!

The 3176 has been in ebay twice last year, just a few months ago a used one sold with a 'buy it now' option. Exclusive sets were either made for specific export countries like France, Italy and Belgium or they were sold to a particular department store like Karstadt Quelle or Kaufhof. Speaking of boxed items my collection consists for 95 % of mint in box sets, here is a little 'preview'

It was a French exclusive 'suitcase' (a combination of 3 existing sets I think) and was released in the nineties. I think it was a Carrefour (French supermarket chain) exclusive.

Hi Panos,

I'm from 1970 so Playmobil played a central role in my childhood, I even remember receiving my first blisterpacks from 1974 and 1975 for my birthday and Christmas. From my own childhood only 2 Western houses with their boxes and a loose 3550 pirateship are left. But now 40 years later I have caught up again  and enjoy all the boxes I owned and wanted in my childhood. Yes nostalgia can make you do crazy things (like collecting Playmobil). I just became daddy again and my wife said that now she has 3 children (my 2 daughters and me).

@playmoed: This is really an impressive collection you have.
I also started getting the things I always wanted as a kid. But I focussed on huge used collection, because I wanted to play with them!  :P

I once got a western church, brand new but not sealed anymore. This is marvellous. Having a long discontinued set, brand new in perfect condition and just build it up...
:cloud9:

Anyway, I got sidetracked! Very impressive and just wunderful, playmoed. Thank you for sharing.  :)

best,
socrates

Hi Elaine,

Well I am 40 so playing time is over for me  :'(, I do buy some sets for my little daughter (she's 3) once in a while. I do have some loose Playmobil as well, for instance some rare knights with white capes (in the very first knight sets sometimes white capes and shields instead of orange ones could be found), keychains, medieval parts and the old klickys like the early indians etc. etc.. I also collect old catalogs, displays, posters etc. etc..

Well I am 40 so playing time is over for me.

You're never too old to play!
Perhaps when you get as old as some of us you'll find time to play ;D
meanwhile you can use your daughters as an excuse.... Glad to hear you're buying playmo for them too  :)

Well I am 40 so playing time is over for me  :'

I'm 43 and still make time to play, and don't even have children as an excuse!

However I fully understand you keeping these very old sets in mint condition, they are far more valuable that way. You can always buy modern sets for actual playing.

Thanks for all these pictures of the old sets - I had Playpeople, mostly knights and western, with a few construction guys. The simple bright colors and interchangeability of the figures are a far cry from today's figures, and very pleasing in the way they allow more room for a child's imagination.

I never saw the knights' white shields and cloaks before, I guess they only came out in Germany and didn't reach the UK, or maybe my "collection" was completed before they were released.

Actually the white capes and shields were depicted on the early green knight boxes.

I knew it!!!!!! In the Collectors Guide 3rd edition there are pictures of the very first green boxes with knight. The flags and capes in the pictures seem colored in later. I always wondered about that.

In the foreground is a caped knight on a horse. It is out of focus and a bit fuzzy. It hase a white cape!!!!

I always thought it was a prototype or something. Never new they were actually on the market. None of my mates had klickies with white capes, flags or shield back in those days. Must be very rare.

Greaty to have these, playmoed. Thanks for sharing these pics.

Hi Martin,

So far I have only found these (in very limited numbers) in The Netherlands. You might know that the Dutch toy wholesaler Otto Simon was the very first company which placed an order for 1 million klickys in 1974. I think that the very first batches/series of the green knight sets only went to The Netherlands and they included those white capes, shields and flags for a very limited period I assume. In the picture you can see Wim Remken, who placed the first order for Playmobil for Otto Simon, with a golden suitcase. It is funny that he holds a Spanish boybis figure in his hand.Regards,

Ed

I think the headband and bald head came from a klicky from a pirate.  Here is one that is similar:  Part Number: 30 00 5092.

I think it came as part of a used lot that I got on EBay a few years ago.  ???  It had probably been customized by someone before I got it.  I took the Klicky apart and made a new character out of him.  I am not really up on all the sets and their numbers.  I generally just buy what I like and can afford.

Today I found a shop selling a load of 4649 spelcials for 50 ct a piece. I bought 2. I´ll keep one in it´s original box sealed. Maybe I´ll buy a couple more.
