Title: Medieval Army
Post by: AndrewL on January 31, 2010, 17:18:44
Dear All,

Back in December, I got around to setting up the whole of my medieval army, which has now grown to a size that I doubt I'll be able to set them all up again. Need to find a bigger house... Oh yeah  :eh?:, need to win the lottery first   :prays:.

Anyway, here are some pictures, and apologies in advance for the less than stellar quality...

Cheers,

AndrewL

What a wonderful display of Medieval Might! My favorite is the klicky eye-level shot at the end.

I love seeing other collections, and I'm guessing you have maybe 400 to 500 troops there, not counting how many are on horseback.

It brings home how many different knights there have been over the years, and how, if you plan to keep adding and adding, you need to decide on a unit size somewhere. Eight to twelve seems about right, once you get to twenty or more it gets really expensive.

Great display. I tend to just get one of each rather than a group of the same thing. It looks very impressive massed like this though.

Hi Andrew L

I see lots of room for more troops. That floor is only 1/3 covered  ;) You need to get rid of the furniture  It is a very impressive collection of Medieval Knights you have there and i love seeing them all set up in formation.

Thanks for sharing your collection

Wow!  Very impressive!  You have enough to lay seige to a castle.   :wow:

That's a wonderful display of Medieval warriors!  You certainly have a great variety of heraldry.  Can we hope for sharper pictures in the future?

Great display, Andrew, and thanks for sharing it with us.      I like the fact that where troops share a common livery there are still variations in uniform, e.g. the helmets worn.  This is just as it would have been, the idea of a uniform as such not coming in until much later.

Now I'm sure everyone is looking forward to some battle photos!

Dear All,

Many thanks for the kind comments -- much appreciated.
To reply to some individuals' comments: indeed, only about 1/3 of the floor was covered, but unfortunately we still need to be able to move in the room. Like I said, need a bigger house. Or maybe learn to levitate...

At the time, I set up somewhere in the area of 750 figures, but that number has increased already since last December. I have gone for lots of figures of each livery, but deliberately trying to make them similar but not uniform. In the same vein, I haven't tried to have fixed 'unit' numbers, rather simply building groups of men in each livery based on the figures/parts I had available to fit with the colour scheme of each group.

I'm planning to do more detailed (hopefully sharper!) photos of each group, but I need to get a bit better organised for that. Camera tripod is in the post, should arrive tomorrow, so that will be a spur to get going with that.

And yes, I do have pictures from a couple of battles I've fought using some of the figures shown in these photos. I was planning on putting those up on Garden Wargaming, though -- thought those might be overly, um, belligerent for Playmofriends  ;). Happy to put them here, too, if folks would like.

Cheers,

AndrewL

Yes Please! No harm in putting them up on both forums. In addition to a tripod, if your camera has a timer button or a remote shutter release it's a good idea to use that to eliminate shake from pressing the shutter release, especially on small digital cameras. My Pentax Optio S6 has a 2-second timer which is ideal for this.

Hi Martin,

Yep, self-timer combined with tripod for the camera is what I had in mind.

That's my weekend taken care of, then...

Cheers,

AndrewL

LOL, yeah, it can get pretty time-consuming.

OMG ... That's an incredible army, Andrew! ...  :wow:

I think that you could put some major hurt on that scary "clown army" that Ras has put together ...  ;D

All the best,
Richard
