Hi all, on KW there are some more details to be fount about 2010's upcoming sets. Some people have already seen pictures of the new sets and this is what they noticed:
Castle:
lion knights are not recycled but are more resemblant to the 90's lion knights. The shields are close to the flemish heraldic sign, ie black lion on yellow background. The robber knights have a black/turquoise color scheme. The large castle seems to have a square tower, a round tower on a rock base with prison and some kind of balcony. There might not be a house. There seems to be a queen and a 70s throne.
Doll's house:
-L-shaped
-same yellow color as the previous model
-windowsills
-
It'll be nice to have a new castle with a round tower, but I'm wondering if the castle will be using the same connection system as the lighthouse and (presumably) the Dragon Castles. If so there'll be even less opportunity for re-designs than with System X.
The Black on Yellow Lion Knights sound promising, a return to more acceptable heraldry would be very welcome.

Hi Martin,
I agree on all points. Unfortunately, based on what people seem to be writing on Klickywelt, the castle(s) look like they're built in the same manner as the Dragonland fortresses. So, sounds like customising may be, um, challenging. Bummer.
No one had posted any pictures (at least none I could see, not being a Klickywelt member), so I can't comment any further. But given the content of many of the posts there, it sounds like the few people who have got pictures of the new sets are reluctant to have them openly available, largely due to concerns about intellectual property/copyright. I suspect there is also concern that Geobra might be less than pleased if images of their new sets make it onto the Internet before the sets have been officially launched at the International Toy Convention.
Oh well, as one person pointed out, the new German catalogue should be appearing in the next couple of weeks. Just have to wait a bit longer...
Cheers,
AndrewL
-
Somebody is selling the UK catalogue on ebay already - it would be a shame if the castle is like the dragonland one, as it would be very hard to customise.
I hope the new dolls house looks different too - I found that the current one seems to fall apart quite easily when moved :-\
-
same yellow as 5301? I actually liked that color, though I know I am in the minority here.

A few "better"pictures ...

Hooboy! I love that Mongolian more than I did the Crusaders (and I really loved the Crusaders) very glad to see that pith helmet again also. Thank you for the pictures Richard!

WOW, :o :o That Mongol looks really sweet! Hopefully the prelude to a theme. :prays:

The heraldry and new klickies sound promising, but I'm disappointed to hear that the new castle may not be customizable like System X or Steck. That's a shame.
-
WOW, :o :o That Mongol looks really sweet! Hopefully the prelude to a theme. :prays:
I wonder if the yurt in the background is a planned set? That'd be a great item, especially if it had a Mongolian family included, and we'd be buying a lot of those to make nomad villages.

I wonder if that yak in the background is from a planned set? That'd be a great item, and we'd have to buy a lot of those to make a proper yak herd. ;)

WOW, :o :o That Mongol looks really sweet! Hopefully the prelude to a theme. :prays:
The Mongol looks like he's wearing a Hershey Kiss® on his head. :D (Is that what makes him "sweet?")

Here you go-enjoy!And thanks to the original poster!
-
Thanks!
I think the new castle looks system X, but I could be wrong.
For some reason, I really like the new mansion...
Look forward to more piccies!
-
I really like the looks of the new castle, even if it can't be customised as well...
Although anything can be customised with a cutting tool and some "playwood";D
The new house looks cool as well.
The mongol is awesome!
-
The mansion looks great!! It shall be mine...sometime in 2011 >:(
Thanks for posting the pics Erik.
-
thanks for the pictures erik. :wow:
the castle is huge. 8}
-
Thank you very much, Erik ... :wow:
I guess that the new mansion is "5302" ... ???
I think the new castle looks system X, but I could be wrong.
And, I think that the new mansion looks like Steck, but I could be wrong as well ... ;)
-
Thanks for the pictures - both - castle and dollhouse look interesting. I love to know where the door on the castle's gallery leads to. Definitely captivating pictures but that is maybe because it is new medieval stuff. I didn't buy any of the 2004 releases but was faacinated back then as I am now. Maybe I change my point of view when I see more pictures.

Hello
Well there she is in all her glory, the new castle. System X or modular it really does not matter because all I would be interested in is if it were Stecks. I see a yellow hawk hood I will want, the flag colors are nice, it is hard to see the Klickies but if they are similar to the flag they should be a nice color scheme as well, I do hope there are some windows that will fit stecks in there, I hope the round tower cap will be the same as the old one.
over all some decent parts for more DS orders
Now the house is interesting. The L shape makes it hard to do a straight street scene. I would have liked it to have Victorian Klickies. If the Klickies are modern does that mean their furniture will be also? I sure hope not, I hope they are a modern family that collects antiques. The color is not too bad . It would be really great if the red roof can be used on stecks like the 5300/5305/5301 could be.

I don't think it's System X, but I do like the heraldry. That's a new shield shape too I think.
I actually really like that house, the best of any of the Victorian styled ones so far.
-
Yay! I love the new house though I have never seen a dollhouse shaped like that. Usually an "L" shaped house has the leg coming back towards the person playing. I wonder what the room configuration is like? The first glimpse of the new stuff is so tantalizing. Hard to believe it will be many many months before I actually see the stuff in person.

The castle and the new knights look great. Ive never had an intrest in buying a castle, but i will get this one. Much better than the last one in my opinion.
Nice job Playmobil. :)9

Hello
I can not zoom in that well but to me it looks like the building system that was used in the Roman arena. Some system X connectors but mainly large pieces that limit the expansion. I see a few seams in the front where X tabs should go but in the towers and balconies I can not focus in to see any.
I do like the front gate doors with the zig-zagging metal work.
It also looks like this is the first time a castle has a portcullis after the wooden doors.
There does not seem to be any interior areas for living or festivities. All the iron doors look like locking cells.
There seems to be a new heraldry flag width. The one on the walking stick is 3 tabs wide similar to the one on the right hanging on the wall . All the other ones are 4 tabs wide.

Hello
Looks like we only know 2 (4865 & 5302) of a long list of new sets. We want more pictures. KW and Customize-It do not have more yet.

yes I noticed that but I do hope this does not mean they have similar construction. I hope it was just an ad for the upcoming toy fair or a press release page that was spied upon.

I would have liked it to have Victorian Klickies.

I do like the house but I also wish that it would have Victorian Klickies.
As the only buildings I have are either steck or system x can anyone enlighten me as to what the other building pieces -(eg the lighthouse) - are like and how they connect together.

YIKES!!! That looks like something LEGO would put out. ??? ??? So much for hoping for cool klickies from the Agents theme. >:( >:(
-
Not that pretty :0
I love the new dollhouse :D.
SysX or Steck, I dont care this looks great! Either way I'm ordering roof parts from DS (the house itself is to big for me but I can fit the roof parts in my town)
The Castle looks like big chunks stuck together with system x. I think it looks to childish the edges are too rounded. I'm hoping that that roof on the roundtower will fit on the old steck towers. That is all I need 0).
-
Well that's horrifyingly LEGO like. They had the same problem with their last Space theme. One advantage Playmo has is the ability to make great curving or rounded items. Here it all looks too jagged. I would much rather see a 1950s bubble city look, all Art Deco sleekness.
-
I think it may have potential- Besides, Lego and Playmobil always copy each other, its something we need to accept... :D
-
One more pic of the new "Secret Agents" theme.
-
Thanks for the new pic Erik. I like the klickie driving. ;D The car.... eh. Reminds me of the toy line from the 80's called MASK, where every vehicle turned into a different vehicle or had hidden guns, missiles, etc.

Hi Richard
Maybe she does not want Playmobil to put her on the black list for sharing the pictures too early ???
The boat is fugly , what the heck is that thing that opens on the side, and why is there a space themed plane on top of it. I know my boys will look past the design and still want it but I think that weird looking design lady lost her glasses for this sets approval meetings.
The plane car, come on Playmobil you were supposed to be the one company grounded in reality for modern and historical themes, what next ? all the themes are going to be influence with fantasy . This just seem like a desperate move to tap into this short lived trend.

I wonder if the yurt in the background is a planned set? That'd be a great item, especially if it had a Mongolian family included, and we'd be buying a lot of those to make nomad villages.
I'm wondering the same thing too, Martin. That yurt could be used as a round hut for various "barbarians" for the Roman and Medieval themes as well as African huts.
Regarding the new castle, as others have posted, it looks like it's System X albeit with large pieces, so I don't know how customizable it will be. I really like the heraldry, the new shield shape, and the knight. I also very much like the portcullis, which is a first for Playmobil, I think. The walls are a new mould, being of rough cut stone and not the neat blocks of the previous castle. I'm not sure I like this, but it's something different.
I like the new house a lot. It's more in the French style, which is a nice change. The klickies, however, are modern, so I'm guessing the furniture will be the same, which is a shame.
The new spy theme looks like hideous Fischer Price!
-
Hey Ras
I too had a buttload of MASK, except the semi, :'(
I just can't figure out why PM wants to go in such a goofy direction. The fact that most Playmobil doesn't transform or split into two, or have hidden missiles is WHY I LOVE IT!
What other toy has the scope of PM? I guess that's the saving grace, they're will always be something cool coming out ;) and at the end of the day it's a kid's toy and kids like goofy vehicles that split into two and shoot missiles.
-

Hi Martin and Justindo
This is not the first time that Hut has shown up in the background of a set picture. I do not remember when or what set but I will look around for it . If it was in a similar theme then who knows, maybe a new theme is on the way for 2012

Hi Rasputin,
The hut or yurt was featured in the background of the Cossack Soldier Special 4683.
-
If the new big castle is System X, and can be combined with the older System X castle then it might have some promise, but it looks horribly like it comprises extra-large pieces, giving less and less modularisation.
It's the hideously big keep sections I most dislike about the Knights' Empire Castle. All the same, I'll probably buy one of these castles when they hit the US.
-
A descent castle! ... Wow!
I'm happy that it's steck anyway :P :-)
-x-
(Someone spoke about the klickys of the "Victorian" mansion not to be Victorian. It's because there is no Victorian theme anymore. That house is simply an old house in the modern city. That's the conception of the Dollhouse theme, since it began to stray.)

I love the new sets. ;D
It never ceases to amaze me what new ideas the designers at Playmobil come up with.
I think the new dollhouse is a vast improvement on the current one, but not as good as the original 1900 houses.
I like the Klicky in the towel with the hairdryer and the wood burning stove. I hope it lights up like the electronic fire place.
The Christmas market is also great and I love the new vacation house and swimming pool.
It's a good job the UK won't be getting these yet as I can't afford them at the moment, but hope to have the funds when (and if) the UK get them.
-
Vacation House looks nice, kinda villa-ish. The dollhouse is modern, noooooooo.... Still a nice house though and if stocked with victorian furniture could work. I love the woman klickie in the Christmas market, she looks so wintery and sporty, a really neat set overall. I wonder if speedo man in the vacation theme has individual moving legs like the bikini girl special.
Now I'm 100% sure I will steer clear of the agents theme. A metal detector jet ??? ??? I can't even begin to say the number of things wrong with that and Robot Gangster SUV gets my vote for silliest toy name of the year.
I don't collect the knights theme for space reasons, but the falcon guys seem pretty cool, I like their color scheme, alot more subdued than say purple barbarians.
-
Hello
Well you can put the RC unit in the SUV and then outfit it with the Playmobil camera and attach the monitor to the RC-controller and drive it around spying . It is a nice concept but I just wish the Agents did not look so similar to the Space theme idea Playmobil flopped with years ago.
I am really disappointed with the new doll-house. I wanted it at least to be Stecks for the nice red roof parts and for it to be a Victorian theme. it is just a nice looking system X doll-house
Rasputin "The Mad Monk"
-
So I really like:
The zoo, best yet
the vacation theme, great structure and pool
the Christmas sets, the dino advent calendar has a new dino color variation in it, the more winter and Christmassy sets are excellent
The structure of the new house and some of the accessories
The heraldry and accessories in the knights series, a new caparison style there too
I dont like the secret agent theme stuff at all. There looks to be a laboratory set that may be useful for Frankenstein style Halloween set ups but other than that, ick. Did you notice the box style for that series isn't the classic blue?
-
The Arch' Bishop Klaus is kind of scary! xP
But it's good to historical customs (Inquisition ...).
I heard the new castles are system X ... Does anybody have any conclusions on the matter? oO
I like the new medieval soldiers. They're more sober than the last waves of collections.
(What they couldn't manage to do yet was something to replace the timbered house, and I guess it's impossible. But I don't doubt they'll unfortunately come up with something.)
-x-
What's that 007 theme like, btw? 007 or MIB? ...

the knights [...] but the falcon guys seem pretty cool, I like their color scheme, alot more subdued than say purple barbarians.
(Someone once said that purple was quite much used in the middle ages, and I kept thinking about it ... Nowadays I don't have so much problem with those anymore.
But I do prefer brown, yellow and red myself too ...)
-
Love the Christmas sets, new style helmet with nose guard and the cannon.

Dare I say that the secret agents' HQ doesn't look too bad? But as for the rest of the theme... yuck. I like the small castle better than the large one - though they both look like they use a lot of the same pieces.
I'd like to see the villa theme closer up... I haven't seen any of the bathing suit people move their legs other than in the typical PM way (both together).
Yes, I have to agree that it is amazing what the Playmo designers come up with... and how they manage to re-use parts over and over in varous ways. As mentioned the dark scorpion space theme (I think that's what it was called) is there again in the agents' theme and parts of the first dino expedition on ice, etc. appear in some sets.
David
-
i know that i am a compulsive pirate's theme fan but i make an effort not to despise the other themes. :)
... but this time geobra is making my life difficult - there is nothing i really like. :'(
if i was to guess i would say that during hans beck time he would not only be reponsible for the design of the klicckies - but also for the general concept of each theme. :hmm:
this constant "glueing" to other manufacturers ideas is quite annoiying. >:(
-
Well, the castles, the mansion and the villa theme hark back to the heyday of Playmobil, but the secret agents........well, I'm speechless! I guess the new designers there and the people who give the go-ahead to what is produced just lack the mind of a child now and so regurgitate what other firms have done before. I give the secret agents two years at most before it's end in Germany is announced. Plus, I think the best years of Playmobil have, sadly, passed.
-
"I think the best years of Playmobil have, sadly, passed"
I'd have to agree somewhat with your on that, Playmofire... I'm glad I collected quite a bit starting 12 years ago. Not much to get from this lot - but I just noticed the mad scientist's lab in the secret agent theme - now that is cool! So maybe I'll be buying a set here and there from the various themes.
I'm still hoping there will be an East Asian (Japanese/Chinese) theme out one day - maybe 2011/12? The Torii gate in the zoo theme and the Mongolian sets suggest something might be in the works.
David
-
I see some very useful parts in these new sets. I’ll definitely be ordering from the parts department some of the huts from the zoo, some parts from the Mediterranean house to make a Roman villa, the desk from the advent calendar, the new bishop, and the market stalls from the other advent calendar, which could be used for both the Medieval and Roman themes.
I’m especially excited about some brand new items and item colors, namely the new grey chair and new color chest in 4866, the brand new helmets in 4867 and 4869, the new shield shape, the new arm armor in 4874, and all the new heraldry. Although I’m not a huge Medieval cannon fan, the ones these new ones look historically correct. I may end up getting both these castles, even though they don't look as customizable as the previous System X ones.
-
in some directions they are carrying along quite well. The recurrent zoo and wildlife themes must be popular since they keep doing them, and they are well done - even getting better. Unfortunately with shipping costs as they are these days I have to wait until they arrive in the US before I can get the animals and put them up at Animobil.
That hut in the new zoo set - there's the hut Martin was looking for. It's a bit tall but that could easily be changed for a new Mongol series. There are certainly enough Asian parts now to make hopes for a China vs. Mongols theme more realistic.
We may be overlooking the gadgetyness of the secret agent theme. It looks like most of the sets have things like detectors and so on, electronic gadgets to include in play. I think that's a good idea these days, it's just too bad that they had to choose that particular visual style to deploy them.
-
I heard the new castles are system X ... Does anybody have any conclusions on the matter?
G
:blackhair:
Gus ...
Please look at the attachments. The little square holes look a lot like SystemX.
However, wonder what are those "rectangular" holes used for?
-
They look like the attachment points in some of the sets like the treehouse. It seems like they are not even keeping strictly to System X very well but are heading in the direction of structure parts not being interchangeable at all.
-
There are certainly enough Asian parts now to make hopes for a China vs. Mongols theme more realistic.
Unfortunately, Tim, it appears that Geobra has used their "faux Steck" system for their beautiful Asian zoo facade. (please see attachment)
The good news is that "faux Steck" can be modified by carefully filing the connector tabs so that the connections can be separated rather than becoming permanently affixed.
Edit: corrected typo.
-
Hmmm ...
You and I must be using a bit of ESP here, Tim ... ;)
-
Hello
I too think that Playmobil has not "lost it" yet. I have plenty (well not quite) of stecks to keep me busy and what I now look for is the parts to these new castles. The other sets like the Classic House, Agents and Christmas themes are also used for parts for our other themes. The agents might just have to become a Christmas Present Theme for our youngest. I realize Playmobil has a challenging time with hands-on-toys in this digital era and that it is trying to tap into that market with the agents theme. good luck
I think this castle and its colors and all are actually better than the last system X castle. I just wish more of the building parts could be incorporated with stecks. I guess I really liked the Stecks system, I can never quite move on and will always fault Mr Branstater for not keeping it going. I know its is not a "construction" toy but part of imagination is being able to create things for yourself. I kind of see it slightly like if Lego decided to change their bricks.

Many thanks to everyone who posted photos, both here and at Klickywelt! :*)
Special thanks to Michael (macgayver) for posting the link to Playmobil.de's new stuff page! :-*
Love, love, love the new Christmas items!
The zoo and villa look very interesting. :yup:
The new doll house, castles, and dragon knights don't appeal to me at all (though I really like the "falcon" color scheme of black/red/teal.)
I think the "agent" stuff looks like fun - kids will enjoy it, I am sure.
The foam airplanes will last about 3 days until they get stuck in a tree or chewed up by the dog! >:D
What is the deal with the transformer pickup truck that clips to the kid's belt? ???

Hello, Ras ...
My understanding is that the designers told Mr. Brandstätter that SystemX would be a much more versatile construction system than Steck. (Steck was never engineered like Lego. So, all the pieces of the Steck system were never able to fit together mathematically like Lego.) SystemX was supposed to remedy the Steck "engineering" problem and make Playmobil even more competitive with Lego. Unfortunately, the Playmobil designers seemed to be much better at marketing than they were at engineering. In fact they were so good at marketing that Fisher-Price actually used a SystemX like construction scheme for awhile. (They may have even bought the license from Geobra.) ... ;)
In other words, Mr. Brandstätter may not be the one we should blame. He may have simply been misled just like many members of the Playmobil fan community who thought that SystemX was going to be wonderful ... :(

Hi Indianna
There are 3 sets of those folding sets. A boat, rocket plane and the truck
I was thinking the same thing about the plane, better use a expendable klicky  Though if it is cheep enough I want to put a rocket booster from a model rocket on the back , maybe a parachute for the klicky will be in order ;)

Yes, but what's the point???? Is this their way to cash in on the Transformers popularity? Just throw everything at the wall and see what sticks??? Frankly, I think it is a bit lame.

Excellent idea!

Looks like everyone will now be able to actually make their Playmobil planes "fly" ... ;D

I think they are trying to keep the idea of Take along sets but in a smaller version. A kid could bring one to the restaurant or church and spin his wheels in the sand. Lame yes, just bring a car/truck - no folding necessary ::)
Yes I forgot to thank everyone for all the pictures :wow:
Richard, I wonder what kind of sales pitch the design team came up with to get the stecks phased out and replace with System X

Gus ...
Please look at the attachments. The little square holes look a lot like SystemX.
However, wonder what are those "rectangular" holes used for?
I suspect that they are attachment points for extension pieces such as the castle gate on the right of the picture or for buttresses.

I'm assuming that the design team's sales pitch probably was "designed" to convince everyone in Zirndorf that SystemX would make Playmobil more "competitive" with Lego ... ::)
Edit: corrected typo.

Yes, I forgot to thank everyone for all the pictures :wow:

Me too ... :-[
(Guess I got caught up in all the excitement.) ... :yippee:
A BIG thank you to Michael and Ken for all the really GREAT pictures.
Thanks again and all the best,

Thanks, Gordon. That makes a lot of sense.
-
Yay!! I finally get to see what's coming up! ;D Thank you for all the great pictures. :D
Naturally, I'm most thrilled about the new animals in the zoo theme and the parts that could make good landscape pieces. The other sets/themes that I like the look of are the Christmas and winter theme sets. They are so cute and the angel and Father Christmas figures look great. The vacation sets look like a lot of fun too.
However, I can't say that I'm even interested in those spy theme sets and even less so about the boxes they've packaged them in. What happened to the beautiful blue of the classic Playmobil boxes? Are they just too cheery for the spy theme? :(
-
. . . In other words, Mr. Brandstätter may not be the one we should blame. He may have simply been misled just like many members of the Playmobil fan community who thought that SystemX was going to be wonderful ... :
System X seems fabulous to me in comparison to some of the "systems" that are now in use by Playmobil. I did not like anything System X when it first came out - I thought the lavendar fairy tale castle was an abomination but then I saw what Danielle did with her beautiful Opera House, not to mention the many other beautiful scenes that people have been created using System X (Roman cities, Arabian scenes, modern city scenes, etc.) While System X sets are time-consuming to put together at least the pieces are very interchangeable and tend to stay together pretty well. I don't care at all for the new castle sets with the big chunky components that only seem to fit together one way. :(
-
I believe they went that way for 2 reasons.
It takes less plastic to make one big wall than lots of independent pieces.
I suspect they would get some complaints about construction time from those parents who build everything for their kids instead of letting the kids do it. Plus there's the lost piece problem, and System X is ok but doesn't hold together anywhere near as well as Steck does.
-
Thanks for pics! Knights look great. Castles are ok.
-
I'm quite excited by the St Nick figure, he'll make a great bishop to go with the medieval theme or the Church theme.
Like Justindo, I'll be getting the two new castles, I like the figures more than the castles but I'm becoming a bit of a castle collector these days, and soon I'll have room to keep them on display. The figures and new accessories are a great improvement on the last set.
One problem with System X is that many of the pieces are just too big, so if you try to move anything it falls apart. Combine that with all the annoying connectors you have to locate, and it's a frustrating system. Only the towers can hold themselves together because of the number of connections in a small structure.
Now we've had a closer look at the castles, I think more than ever that those long rectangular holes are for retaining clips like the lighthouse set. I'm looking at the base of the Egyptian Tomb set, and there are similar rectangular holes there. This could still be modular if the right pieces are present, but if the pieces are too large, and they look large, then it'll be tricky. At least the clip system gets rid of the annoying thousands of red and yellow connectors. They may still retain some System X components but use clips for the main structure.
-
I really like the new Christmas sets, especially the St. Nick & Angel set. I'm more interested to see what this year's "Classic Edition" set will be, along with the other new Add-on releases. I think we could use the old Snowplow(3695) to go with the new Christmas releases :D
-
... In other words, Mr. Brandstätter may not be the one we should blame. He may have simply been misled just like many members of the Playmobil fan community who thought that SystemX was going to be wonderful ... :( ...
Actually, my understandig is that he's actually the one to blame.
Back in 2004, during the great Meet in Zirndorf, Val had a discussion with one of the designers (he might even have been de head designer). She had asked him why system-X as we thought the Steck to be superior. He told us that the designers were divided about system-X. However, Mr. Brandstätter pushed on regardlessly - making the decision to go for Sytem-X and to stop Steck.
So - no ... it wasn't the designers that pushed it through as they were divided themselves.

The castles are pretty, however I was comparing with the latest castle (King's Castle), Collectobil.com (http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/catalogue.html) Knights, and I realized that it doesn't satisfy the collector, only the children, they're toy castles only, and not miniature castles as the large castles used to be, since the first steck one.
I explain: The large castles used to have a house section, with roof and windows. This new large castle doesn't have a house: it has a roof, and a fake interior, which is perfectly useful for playing purposes, but it's the end (or a vacuum) in an era of truly interesting playmobil large castles because they were more than simple toys, they used to be miniature castles. I don't think this will be solved. They tried to deceive us, but it doesn't work.
I'm not bitter at it, I like the two new castles, and will have them if I may. But this is something I realize about them. Playmobil Rieter has definitely entered the universe of mere & vulgar toys.

Gus ...
Please look at the attachments. The little square holes look a lot like SystemX.
However, wonder what are those "rectangular" holes used for?
I was dreaming, actually ... The castle seems to be hexagonal -- one of the little virtues in comparison with steck system, which gave us only squarish possibilities ... -- it could never be common steck.
I wish however they found a way / ways of making a mixed system castle, because the steck timbered houses are so pretty, it's too bad that we can't have them attached to the new castles ...
These new castles have the looks of the Roman circus and of that Spanish lighthouse. They look interesting, and are visually appealing, with the only restriction -- to me -- of not having a real house, and the fake interior to make the castle too artificial for a respectable building.
What they have been doing opposite in the city houses, which quite look more and more real. (They didn't use to have stairs, the older ones ...) Maybe they think girls need details and boys live well without them ... They are possibly right :hmm: ???
-

It couldn't be Steck now, but there was nothing stopping them producing the necessary angled corners to create hexagonal castles, if they hadn't dropped Steck when they did.
In England at least, hexagonal castles are almost unheard of. The only one I could find was Old Wardour Castle in Wiltshire, which is a hexagon but with a massive rectangular keep extending from one side. Hexagons may be more defensible, but they're ultra-rare.
I think by the time the idea was thought of, all the good castle spots were taken, and you don't knock down an existing square castle to put a hexagonal castle in its place, unless it gets damaged during a siege. Old Wardour is in a not particularly strategic spot, and was built late in the castle building era (started arouns 1393) as a lightly fortified manor house, not really a proper castle.

Hello
On the new Dollhouse is the Klicky in the bathroom naked with a towel & hair dryer?
The door handles look like the old ones in 3 colors ( silver, white & yellow )
Christmas theme I do not think we saw these yet ?
"With PLAYMOBIL, the waiting is the Christ is more fun! Besides the two new Advent motifs exist in this year nine new products, arrange for a festive atmosphere.
A Christmas with beautifully decorated stalls is as inevitable as the sweet slide carousel and a live nativity scene set. The Christmas room is a splendid addition to the many gifts of decorated Christmas tree with functional lighting.
As gift ideas for Nicholas Teller or gifts during Advent are the three new Christmas packages absolutely ideal view: St. Nicholas and Santa Claus, Santa Claus with Snowman and Santa Claus and the little angel with a barrel organ, which plays three Christmas carols, waiting for their new little friends.
A classic of the world is the PLAYMOBIL Christmas Nativity. This year the Great crib is redesigned with a barn and equipped with a functioning lamp. And of course the camel's back, with the Magi follow the star to pay homage to the child in the manger with frankincense, myrrh and gold."

It couldn't be Steck now, but there was nothing stopping them producing the necessary angled corners to create hexagonal castles, if they hadn't dropped Steck when they did.
You're right.
It's revolting >:( When I first saw the King's Castle (3268), around March 2008, when I was coming back to playmobil, and had no idea of the existence of system X yet, I actually thought that one to be exactly like the older ones, because of the house in the castle. In time, as I read the talks, and paid more attention to pictures, then I realized it wasn't.
Indeed they could have made hexagonal steck.
Then we come to the vain talk of the reasons why they changed to system X, and opinions ...
As I look at the klickys, they have changed for better, I think. I think system X is good for modern houses too. The only thing that still holds me to steck as a personal preference are the timbered houses, that I hope they don't put away ... :-\

Some very nice modern theme sets in there, and good to see dad tending the baby. The bathtowel looks to me to be a plastic piece a bit like the toga, and she has a bikini underneath representing underwear.
The three kings are all different from previous versions, they'll make a good group of civilians to add to a Roman scene.
The double agent head looks interesting, presumably a new head moulding that doesn't limit movement. Good trick to be able to shrink stubble back into your face, wish I could, maybe it'd start growing back on top of my head. ;D
Does the toy farm in the kids' bedroom represent an existing set, or do you think they'll make a new set to match it?
-
I am excited about those Christmas sets!

Although I like the current kings better, these new ones will be a nice addition.

The farm in the kids room is the same as the one that was released and discontinued. It never made it here to the US, so that will be a nice way to get the parts.
-
The Christmas sets look intriguing, I am not sure about those secret agents though.

Appearently, the 007/MIB will provide ONE interesting thing to the playmobil universe: pieces to make sci-fi costums.
Sci-fi was never a strong side of playmobil, but I used to manage with a few astronaut equipement I had as a kid, from PlaymoSpace ...
(Speceships, though, were always from Star Wars toys, & G.I. Joe ... It'll probably go on like this ...)
Anyway, I don't have means of collecting everything. If I get a few of those yellow medieval soldiers it'll be a bliss! xD
-
I'm sorry, but I really don't like the look of the secret agents theme - it just looks like any other cheap toy playset on the market :(
I absolutly love the new Christmas themes though, especially the Christmas market
You could make a whole wintery Christmas wonderland

They aren't pretty, for adults, I agree. They'll be useful for kids. I don't like them either, esthetically speaking ...

It'll go on like this for kids ... My futuristics are far beyond what any toys can help me do ... It might help in character building, but that isn't the cool part in futuristics, and I have plenty of exercise with other "times".
My G.I. Joe toys are long gone -- longer than playmobil ... --, and these I won't make come back, nor lego.
But the only way I write between the 1600s and the 1920s is playmobil, funny thing. (I miss the 1900 "Victorian" theme deeply, some top hats, and a few of those old scarfs, that I used to make aviators with playmo kids (using them as adults ... 'Had a few characters, there's one picture in my folder, in the photo section of Playmofriends ...)
Nice to bring these things back to mind

(Er ... sorry for having gone a little off topic here :-[ ...)

I've very excited about this crop of toys- and by the time they make it to the states, I'll actually be buying them for my kids, not just for myself- :-[
The new mansion looks great, such a huge improvement over the last one. And the new furniture sets are pretty spiffy. Love the holiday villa, of course, and gotta get some bathing suit-ed klickies.
Crazy about the Christmas theme, the shop stalls and the kids nativity set will make for a great Christmas time diorama. Nice to finally have a real manger, too.
Has any one seen the front side of the agents headquarters? I also like the cyborg shop- the rest not so much.
Definitely will be getting the Asian zoo, as well.
Good stuffs- thanks all for the pics! :wow:
-
Hi All,
Firstly, thanks to all those who posted pictures -- much appreciated!
Well, like many (if not most) other people who have posted here, I am bemused by the secret agents theme. Personally, I can't see the point, but oh well. I think it was Indianna who suggested perhaps Geobra are simply throwing ideas at the wall to see what sticks. Seems a somewhat expensive thing to do, but what do I know?
The new knights theme, on the other hand, I think is (mostly) quite good. I, too, long for the days of Steck, but it looks to me like the new castles might be System-X, at least in part. Since I haven't got the room for them, I have my doubts that I will actually buy either of them, but the new knights and many of their accessories -- I see many expensive DS orders on the horizon.
The colour choices and heraldry are much more to my taste, and the various new pieces (helmets, crests, shields, barding for horses, looks like a new type of legs for knights) look great. I will be happy to welcome these new guys into my medieval army!
And St Nicholas's bishop's mitre and the new Wise Men fantastic. I'm always slightly suspicious of explicitly religious themes in toys, but given the background of the company it's not terribly surprising. I'm just glad they didn't go for an overtly 'Crusaders' theme.
Now comes the hard part: waiting until the sets I'd like become available, or the part numbers appear on PlaymoDB so I can order them from DS!
Cheers,
AndrewL

Yes to both. Bikini girl works for a woman in her undies, and the towel looks like the same material they made the Roman togas out of. If they can have a woman in a bikini, I don't think a woman in her undies is any more revealing, especially for Baywatch viewers, and the Germans are huge fans of Baywatch because of their love of David Hasselhoff.

Lighten up, it's only a bit of fun. Do you disagree that Germans like Baywatch, or that they like David Hasselhoff? Obviously I don't mean every single German national has to be a fan, but you don't have to take my word on this, here's a recent DVD review saying exactly the same thing. Germany has all 11 series out on DVD, while the US has only three. That's not because Germans hate Baywatch.

It would appear that most of us have seen Baywatch. It probably isn't very important for us to speculate who watches it the most. What is important is that we may be getting a bit off topic, which would give any moderator a really good reason to "shut down" this topic.
Now, that would be a shame because there is so much really good Playmobil stuff being posted here.
For instance ... Have y'all seen the "give aways" for the Nürnberg Toy Fair?

Hi Martin
Unfortunately you are probably right. I really do not like to much face prints like these. The only other thing you can use it for is a grease monkey at a auto repair shop. If they were the side burns we could use them all over the place.
You could always resort to an auction site and pay the 10X the actual price .

I'll probably get this advent calendar, because it has one of those very old helmet in a new colour! Those new helmets look kinda strange
-
Until now I haven't posted my findings because I wanted to wait until the 360° views of the castles would appear on the website. No they did so my findings of the new knights theme are:
Figures and accessories:
-I believe that the Playmobil designers did a wonderful job by creating far better klickies than 2004's theme. I remember being disappointed when I first saw the heavily colored dragon and lion knights and their childish heraldry. These 2010's knights are much more resemblant to the beloved 90s knight's periode. Although lions once again, the heraldic signs are simply great, I must thereby admit I'm a bit prejudiced as the black lion on a yellow background looks very much like the flag of the Flemish part of Belgium. Also the red falcon looks great, the 'dirty' turquoise color is very nicely done.
-The apparent use of stickers on some of the klickies (shields?) instead of tampon print opens more customising possibilities.
-I'm particularly fond of the new helmet types, the bullet one with the nose protection will be many people's favorites and is very useful for crusader armies. I'm so glad as far as the klicky wearings and heraldry is concerned, the design is more historical correct than the 2004 period.
-This of course can't be said about the war machines. The small cannons are well, ok, but those ballistae monsters are not my cup of tea. A working trebuchet would have been much better and more compatible with the new knights' appearance.
The buildings:
-ok, two castles of the same color, that's nice if they have different parts, which seems to be the case. I don't want to slam the hard work of the designers but this is what I think. Both castles look better than their first system-x predecessors, but they don't come even close to the geniously crafted steck castles. To me they're budget castles as to details (battlements, boring balcony, no real house with windows, etc.). What bothers me the most is the heights of the walls and towers. The king will have to crouch if he wants to move into the house of the king's castle and attacking knights can almost jump over the lower walls. As a child, I remember we laughed with toy brands offering castles with figures being taller than the walls. In a steck castles, alhtough pretty much scaled as well, a horse mounted knight can't look over the walls, with the new castles, the klickies are better off on top of the towers. But maybe the wall sections in the back of the robber's castle can be used to create higher walls (see pic), but then the limit is still two storeys.
-I miss a stone stairs :(
-I miss a real medieval house :(
-I miss steck and eventual new parts
Still, there are some nice additions to be fount in the castles:
-the gates are nice and after 30 years of roman window designs, we now see gothic type gates in the square towers
-the return of the old throne in a different and better color than the blue-ish one in the knight's mulitset.
-the return of some other old furniture in nice colors.
So in general, the knight's theme is not as bad as I expected. On the contrary, I really like those no phantasy-like klickies a lot, they will be a welcome addition to my medieval world. :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

What wierd eyes on the standing figure! They're a new print, but why? I'd much rather have the plain black "button" eyes. His helmet also looks "wrong", just not quite the right shape, too flared out at the sides of the face.
I like the new figures, but I'd have preferred more with heraldry on the figures, not just their shields.
Kenc's picture of the corner of a castle is a bit worrying, the corner appears to be joined to the right hand piece, so there is a side piece and a corner piece moulding. It may be possible to use these pieces to constuct different shapes, but they're more specialised and limiting than Steck or even System X.

The new knights are a great improvement on the fantasy ones of recent years, and I like the villa theme.

I didn't buy any of the 2004 releases but was faacinated back then as I am now. Maybe I change my point of view when I see more pictures.

Yes, I have seen them most definitely. And yes - it is an elevator - which surely is an interesting detail. I wonder if that is a stair in the rocks at the back of the castle underneath the - errr - house.
-
Thanks for illuminating the castles' special features for us. I'm really impressed with the portcullis and the machicolations!
-
I'm mostly interested in the new house, though I have plenty of castle stuff (steck). My first thought is the new house is very pretty from the outside. I really like the thought of a new historical looking building without it just being a reissue of the same-old parts in new colors. I think it will blend very well with the older Victorian houses while still being completely unique. I really like the windows with the shutters. They are very pretty and well detailed. Even the interior framing of the windows is nice (unlike the old Victorians). The new ones look nice with or without curtains.
The inside is okay (speaking about the house itself), but I don't know why they used the shorter system X wall divider rather than the taller one. It's not even like they used one with shelves (not available in taller units)--it's just a regular, solid wall piece. It looks out of place in the house. The stairs are clever for play value. You can use them without wasting any floor space, and you can quickly pop them off if they are in the way. They are just a tad too modern for the design of the house.
As for the furniture and clickies, I don't mind that they are modern. In fact, I really like these new modern furniture sets, they are all so much more realistic than what comes in the modern living suburban house. We finally have a kitchen with cabinets and counters, and upper cabinets, and finally a dining table that doesn't look like a kid's table. The entertainment center also looks very realistic, just like my own actually. And I like the sofa and chair. I also like the parent's room. It has a great 50's look to me. Plus it's an actual double bed! The old green and blue one was hideous. I think the house would look great with the older Victorian sets too. And now we have some additional and (in my view) better modern sets to use.
The one thing I really don't like is the way the main promo pic distorts the second level front door. They stretched them to add visual balance to the facade, but the 360 view shows what it really looks like. I would rather use the first floor door frame for the second level too for balance.
-
Here are some comparisons of the promotional picture and the real product shown on the 360 degree view. See the difference?

Yes, there is a BIG difference. Thanks for the pictures!
I really like that Cape Dutch facade.

I've long since liked stained glass so I find that little addition of the small floral glass window in the new house to be really cute.

No need to be embarrassed! I had never heard of a "Cape Dutch facade" before your mentioning it here. :-[ I researched it and feel a little bit smarter now. It's fun to learn about new words and terms for things that you had no idea about previously.
Also this evening, I did some pleasure browsing through the Playmobil Germany website and really enjoyed seeing such big, shiny, new pictures of all their upcoming sets and even discovered a new animal I didn't know about that hasn't been released previously. If it's already been mentioned somewhere in the forum, I completely missed it so I was pretty excited over it tonight. It's the brown ox from the Nativity set 4884. :woohoo:
I think I'll get two and they can be my "team of oxen." Now to get Playmobil to create some nice harnesses and a plough for them to pull. ;D That little stable looks pretty tempting too and I'll for sure try to get one of those for my numerous farm critters.

Looks like you may have indeed spotted a new animal. I looked on Tim's Animobil (http://www.animobil.info) site and couldn't find anything that looks like this ox.
Poor Tim ...
There are so many new animals this year that he may have to "mortgage the farm" to get them all ...
Thanks for being an "eagle eye" spotter, SubaruWolf!

For Benelux there is a special set not available in Germany

Yes that's a new color variation of the current bull that's been in spotted black/white or brown/white previously.
In the zoo series there is a new adult Asian elephant, the orangutan and baby, koala and baby, and meerkats (3). Also either new tigers or new color variants of them. The new dragonfly in 4148. A new female lion in the 1-2-3 series. New color variants of the micro dragon, kangaroo joey, sitting cat, laying cat, sitting puppy, baby unicorn, and Deinoneichus.
That's a total of 18 (or possibly 20) new animals and variants for 2010 so far. That's the fewest since 2002, even with a new zoo series this year. There's still the possibility of other ones turning up. There may be something new in the US releases later this year or a new game set with animal color variants in it.
Here is a chart of new animals per yer through these most recent announcements.
-
Thank you, Tim! I love that chart you've set up. And thank you for the compliment, Richard! I started buying Playmobil because of the animals so any new ones are my absolute favorite part of upcoming sets and, with the help of Tim's great website, I hunt for them obsessively. ;D
I noticed that new style of elephant and the color variation on the tigers and I have mixed feelings about both. I rejected the new camel and baby elephant designs when they came out, and I don't think I'll be treating the new adult elephant much differently though I've always kind of felt that Playmo's orange tigers (especially the adult) were "missing something." Still, I'm not sure if their tigers with the newly added white parts will actually be enough to prompt me to retire my current tiger mother (or my tiger cubs for that matter). I guess I'll just have to wait and see. :)

Thanks for the info to a set that we likely will not see in the states. It is great to know what else is out there due to the fact that sometimes we can get the parts or Klickies through DS.

Who knows, Ras ... ???
Geobra may have actually been reading our posts.
I just got an email reminding me of a topic that Anne (Indianna) started back in the latter part of October 2009 ... "NEW ADVENT CALENDAR SCHEME" (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=3663.0)
Saint Nicholas and Black Peter may be the beginning of a new Advent Calendar theme. "Advent Calendars depicting Christmas in each and every country."
Who knows ??? Certainly not me ... 8}
But, the "designers" in Zirndorf may be reading our posts ... ::)
After reading everyone's comments, it occurred to me that Playmobil may be missing an incredible opportunity.
I hesitate to mention it, for fear that Geobra might just do it. And, if they did, I would be hooked. I would have to buy every one of them. And, I really don't need another "must have" collection!
HELLO, EVERYONE IN ZIRNDORF. PLEASE DON'T READ THIS!
Playmobil's missed opportunity is Advent Calendars depicting Christmas in each and every country. One from Denmark, one from Russia, one from England, one from France, one from Italy, one from Austria, one from Brazil, One from Mexico, one from the Caribbean, and the list goes on and and on and on ...
All the best (with fingers crossed ... :crossed:),

Hello
I do not remember the logo there before but the whole Top Agents theme now has some awards logo. It is called "Toy Innovation 2010" and I could not find any info on it on the site? Did they win this at the toy fair?
The more I look at these sets I have a feeling they are not only going to be popular for the boys but I too am going to enjoy using them in dioramas.

Hi Ras
I believe they also got "Parents Choice" awards, "Oppenheim", etc... The company usually gets a few different ones each year. :cheerlead:
Different associations give out the awards at different times.... the TIA (Toy Industry of America) announces @ Toy Fair. Most of the other award givers see the products for the first time @ Toy Fair so there reviews / awards come out later in the year. I used to fill out about 20 surveys a year! :toot: ASTRA (American Specialty Toy Retailing Association) does a really good list - their input comes from retailers who are on the front lines of product distribution :lens:
Here is the link to the Playmobil list - 2009-2010 aren't included... :eh?:

Well we never had slavery or blackface entertainers here. Thus for most Belgians it doesn't feel racist at all. The official rep these days is that Pete is black because he climbs down the chimney all the time, not because he is a negro. The historical truth is that Saint Nickolaus was a Byzantine Bischop who had Arab servants. The Belgians made him a Spaniard with a black servant (can you blame them? 99% of the population had never seen a black man or an Arab. And by the way for the childeren, Zwarte Piet is somekind of hero, He is always playing tricks on Sinterklaas and is the funniest guy in the world+ he gives you toys!

HC, I'm sure that you've read this article from the BBC ... HERE (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A4429064) ...
Please understand that this is just to put everything into historical perspective.
Everyone at Playmofriends seems to be loving, caring wonderful people. None of us would probably ever do any of the things that were done by some of those misguided people of the past, regardless of which country they supposedly represented.
Unfortunately, there are few, if any, "lily-white" nations. We all seem to have a "skeleton (or two) in our closets."
Let's just remember that it wasn't us. And, it isn't any of us now. It was then. And, it's over. But, also let's never pretend that it didn't happen. Because if we ignore the truth of the past, we may all live to see it repeated again.
All the best,
Richard

Hi
I wouldn't mind a few slaves of any color or nationality :P I have a LOT of work around here and our kids are still too young  I would love them and care for them, who wants a disgruntled worker ;) I might even get them some Playmobil of their own ( at least that is what I will tell them >:D)

Almost correct in my opinion: It's not a typical Belgian custom, but reaches to most Dutch/Flemish/German speaking areas (Holland, Belgium, Germany, some [former]colonies)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas
To say that we never had slavery here is not entirely correct either - The Dutch were the most notorious slave drivers out there. In the Dutch society they might not have been introduced as such, but in the colonies it was definitely common practice. South Africa being one of the long-lasting ones.
IMHO, the story is pretty innocent, and part of our culture, but it is one of those 'hidden' things that sets kids of on a wrong start. If you always depict someone in a certain way, it's hard to imagine them differently...
More on topic - I'm estatic that playmo created Sinterklaas!! I love him! ;D
