It's been a good week because yesterday I received some pirate ship spares ...
I already have a lot of spare ship pieces and an almost complete (I think) schooner but am confused as to the different sets the ships come in as some seem to appear in different sets which I presume are re releases, but how do I know which set the ship I am trying to build is from?
I would like to know about
The schooner 3740 and 3055
Pirate ship 3053 or 3750
Red pirate ship 3133, 3174 or 3900
Are the sets of the same ship in the same or different colours and do they have the same parts?
Also does anyone have any instructions they can email me as I'm getting totally confused with all the different parts - trying to build 3 or 4 ships at once without instructions - Looking at PlaymoDB and pictures can only take me so far! 8}
I know it would have been easier to buy the complete ships but I can't afford that and in the long run it isn't as much fun!!
So I would be very grateful for any help anyone can give me.
Thanks, :) Elaine
I might need to take photos of some bits that need identifying too!

Hi Elaine,
The schooner has come out in several versions, but the mast, sails and rigging are all set up the sme, just in different colours. The part numbers are sometimes revised but often are no different, sometimes again the colors change.
3055, 3133, 3174, 3740, 3900, and 5869 are all essentially the same ship with interchangeable parts.
I have the plans for 5869 to hand which I can scan and email to you if you need them.
Congratulations on a great haul of Piratical booty!

I have the plans for 3053 - it had different people - if you need those:

I should have the plans for the red corsair (in your picture) and the blue one and the 3750.

I have the plans for the 3174 and the 3750(3053) pirate ships and I'll email you these if you'll PM me your email address. The plans show most clearly the differences between the different versions, although these are often small, e.g. a difference in the figures.
The most sought after ship is the 3055/3740 schooner.
I've attached some pics of the 3174 at sea. You'll notice it has two jib sails which is more realistic as it gave better handling and sailing. If you wanted to custom your 3174s similarly, then I have two spare jib sails you can have. If you do sail any of the pirate ships, leave slack on the rigging, otherwise they have a tendency to roll over in a strong wind.

I'm in the same position as you at the moment Skypurr, I'm renovating (or rather trying to complete) a 3286, which is proving to be fun sorting out what goes where, and matching things up to the instructions (which luckily I got off ebay), but at the same time can turn out to be very expensive due to many missing parts :(
What a great haul, and I'm sure you'll have fun :)

Yo Ho Ho :arrr:! I like your ale mugs complete with froth :**:!

to know all playmobil ships is not a very difficult task elaine. ;)
you have the "medium" format, 2 masts, medium size hull:
- 3550 (3050 in the us), released in 1978
all versions, 1, 2, 3, lyra, famobil, schaper have the same parts and figures
- 3750 (3053 in the us), released in 1990
2 versions with the same parts but with 2 different crews
there is also a recent argentinian (antex) version with a totally different crew
- 4424 (5736 in the us), released in 2005
1 version only, with folded red sails
- 5778 (us exclusive) released in 2007
1 version only
-
then you have the big ships with 2 different moulds.:
- 3940 (3286 in the us) released in 2000
both versions look-a-like
- 4290 (the same ref. in the us) released in 2007
some love it, some hate it (i dislike it)
-
when you go into the smaller schooners, 1 mast, you have a lot of variations.
- 3860, released in 1997
single ship, black sail with a serpent, blue hull
- 4067 (3029 in the us), released in 1999
with the 3860 ship and an extra island with pirates
- 3174 (5733 in the us), released in 2003
single ship, red sail with skull and bones, brown hull
- 3133 (3619 in the us), released in 2002
with the 3174 ship and an extra island with soldiers
-
still in the schooner world, things get complicated.
- 5775 (us exclusive) released in 2007
similar with the 3860 but with a skull and bone in the sail and an extra fort with soldiers
- 5810 (first released in the us) released in 2008
the same mold of all the schooners but whit sails with a skull and swords
- 5869 (an us exclusive) released in 2009
similar with 3174 but with a red hull, small skulls all around the bow and a black & wthite skull and swords in its sail
- 3900 (euro exclusive in some countries) released in 2009
exactly the same as 3174
-
more images of the schooners - all i have - that might help you identifying parts.
3174eu / 5733us
-
the same schooner with an island.
3133eu / 3619us.
this set was launched at playmobil's 25th anniversary.

I'm still trying to work out all the differences and similarities between the various ships - think I'm getting there slowly! 8}
Thank you to everyone who has offered advice and has sent me instructions - It really was very kind of you.
Gordon, the instructions you sent have come through fine, Martin, 1 and 2 have come through OK so far. Love the photos of the red corsair, I'm looking forward to trying out my ships - once the weather here improves - it gets quite breezy here often. I do have an idea for a story involving the lighthouse!
I can't wait to get started and I'll post photos of the ships when I've finished, however I bake cakes, biscuits, fudge and truffles for a produce fair once a month and it's this week so my spare time will be limited until next weekend worst luck! >:(

Glad to help, Elaine. If no one else has sent you them, I have one more set of plans for you - Blackbeard's ship. I tried sending them yesterday, but they are large and too much for you mail box in one email. I'll send them in two emails later today.
I'll PM you my address for the truffles! :)

I'll PM you my address for the truffles! :)
I quite like this idea, Playmobil in exchange for truffles! :D Wonder how many truffles the Victorian fence is worth? ;D ;D

If the truffles are as good as the ones you make, then a relatively few truffles will buy the Victorian fence. :)

Glad you liked them Gordon, I love them but my waistline doesn't!! :'(
So.....who's got a fence to trade? ;) ;D ;D

I've never seen this one before, is it and exclusive ???

Great sum up of all the PM pirate shops cachalote. I think by far the cannon galleon 3940 with all 4 cannons is the best nad the 3799 pirate island , what a great set this is !!!! . i have 3 of these galleons and after i am done with mediaval i plan to set some pictures of my pirate ships ( 11 in total ) I think the very first ship was a ' must have' toy in the early 80s , i remember it was ( in Greece) always on display on toy shops etc . i still have that old ship , intact !!! :). PM pirate ships have come a long way but have lost the realism they had i think and some sets are a bit peculiar, nevertheless great designs and these new ghost ships with all the sea monsters etc do look spectacular i must say !!!! The old black pirate captain with the wooden leg and the sailor with the hook , people you cant imagine how ' cool' these klickies were in the early 80s, todays there is such a great abundance of pirates, just have a look at the specials !!! Lucky younger generations i say !!!

this thread made me investigate the pirate ship versions a little more. :)
