Title: Feather here - New member.
Post by: Feather on December 28, 2009, 19:18:18
Hi everyone

I used to play with Playmobil as a kid (in the 80's). As time went, I was made to believe that I outgrew the toys. However, every single time I stepped into a toy store, I would stop by the Playmobil section and look at the boxes and the details. I forgot for a few years. Sometimes, life just goes that way. In the recent years, though, my young nephews were born and are just at the Playmobil "age" now (is there ever an age for that???). Just a few weeks ago, I was Christmas shopping and of course found myself in front of the Playmobil shelves of our local toy store.

"Well" I thought to myself... "I've been longing for them long enough!"

I got Playmobil for all my old enough nephews..... and I got Playmobil for myself! I told my boyfriend that I wanted to collect them. The news was well received (not that it would have changed anything... hehehe).

To my Surprise, on Christmas eve, my boyfriend as well as my parents gave me some Playmobil sets!!! One of the sets  my bf gave me was one of a Groom and Bride with wedding cake. (About an hour later, he was down on his knee, proposing to me!  ;D )

So anyway, I'm back into the Playmobil world after a 20-year break! I love the new sets, but am also on a quest to find the sets I used to have as a kid.

I like to put the things together, build scenes, take pictures, etc.

I am very happy to be a new member here and hope I will be able to participate and help others as well as learn things about the Playmobil world.

Thanks for reading
Feather

Hi Feather!

Cute kitty avatar. ;D

And that was such a sweet way for your boyfriend to propose. I think it's lovely that your passion for Playmobil is supported so enthusiastically by your family! (This isn't always the case for an adult collector. Some of us have to horde our sets in secret. :toot:  ;))

Welcome to the forum! I hope to hear a lot more from you in the future. :)

Another welcome from Oregon!

Glad the wedding sets were available, proposing with a Dragon Knight with lazer bazooka would not have been quite so romantic!

Looking forward to seeing more from you here, and how your colelction is growing,

cheers,  Martin

Welcome, Feather, from Northern California!

You didn't say if you accepted the proposal.  Is he your fiance now?  Come on!  Details!  Details!

If he is going to buy you Playmobil, I would say he is worth it!

Thank you for warm welcome, everyone.

*giggles* Yes, I said yes. He is now my Fiance :) We have been together nearly 10 years and are preparing to move from Quebec to Denmark in the next few months. (it was really about time he proposed! LOL)

I have thought of using the bride and groom playmobil on top of the cake... But I am not sure it will happen ;) We have no detail yet about when and how and even where the wedding will take place, seeing as my family and his happen to be 6 time zones apart.

It means a lot to me that he accepts and respects my interest(s)... Besides, he proposed after finding out I was playmobil crazy. That can only mean something good, right?? hehehe...

I will need to pack and send my collection overseas. I'll TRY not to buy TOO much between now and then. Shipping also costs! It will be about time I went back to work though. Being home for the holidays is very bad on the wallet and the playmobil craziness. *gulp*

I just moved 8 timezones the other way (London to Oregon), with my Playmo collection following on board ship. Still about 3 weeks till it arrives, so I've started a whole new collection here!

Hi from Maine-
Nice to have support in your love of playmobil-  I was lucky enough to get an understanding spouse as well- who has amassed her own collection over the years.
There are worse things you could be collecting!
Cheers!

Hello, Feather ...

And, a BIG welcome from the warm and  sunny United States Virgin Islands  ...  ;D

As you probably already know, when you get to Denmark, you'll get all the new Playmobil a year before Canada and the United States. Also, the Danish people are wonderful. They're even nicer than the Canadians.

All the best,
Richard

*giggles* uh huh :) I have been to Denmark many times. People are super nice. And I didn't know for sure about Playmobil but I did figure it would probably be somewhat easier and faster since Germany is so close to Denmark. :D

The other day, I wanted to tell my fiance that I needed a Playmobil house. So I told him "Baby... I need a house"... he replied "Oh God, I know we need a house... else I don't know where you're going to put all your Playmobil" And he turned with a teasing-exasperating look.

LOL... I refrained from showing him pictures of enormous collections I saw on here.  0)

Thanks everyone for nice and warm welcome :) I'm enjoying looking through the forum and finding ideas and tricks and reading stories and looking at pictures. All I need now is a bigger paycheck LOL

how did you find such a romantic man?

*giggles*
I got lucky... I wanted to learn English (I am French Canadian), so I went on a chat program and pressed a button called "Find a random chat partner". My goal was to find someone who would speak english to me, simply.

Oh, I found someone alright... and I learned English. But I also fell in love. The first few weeks, I was always by the computer talking with that guy, with an open translation dictionary in front of me. He was very patient. I was so motivated and so dearly wanted to have better conversations with him that within 3 months, I was fluent.

Four months after we met online, I gathered the courage to tell him my feelings... and to my surprise, he said he had been feeling the same but he didn't want to scare me away so he had kept his feelings quiet.

Three months after that conversation, I was flying to his place to meet him in person. That was nearly 10 years ago now...

And that's how I found my sweet partner :)

I feel so lucky to have someone in my life who is so understanding and supportive. He always encourages me in anything I want to do and any interest I might have. He's very respectful of who I am and what I like.  It goes both ways so I suppose that's one of the reasons it is going so well between us. Nobody tries to change the other... Even when it involves a possible Playmobil house invasion in the future. LOL
I hope to be able to say that for many many years.

Did your fiance also learn some French into the bargain?  ;D

Many of us have understanding partners, and of course it has to cut both ways. My wife and I are looking for a house where I can have my own Playmobil room, while she has a wood working shop AND an area for her fibre crafts.
