Title: Finally I bought the Gold Nug.
Post by: Rasputin on December 28, 2009, 19:13:38
Hello Western fans  :elf:

After years of waiting and waiting I finally realized I would never find a 3787 locally. I was watching for a long time and hoping, now it seems more like dreaming that their price some day would go down. Fat chance. I just could not wait any longer and I bought two of them. This one is in nice clean condition with no breaks. Unfortunately it has no Klickies or furniture and is missing one post. The Klickies will be missed most as good ol Molly Brown is hard to find.

The building is a unique orange and with out seeing it I never knew how attractive the tone is. It even goes well with the yellow windows (oh that wonderful big side one) the brown wood and grey floor and posts. It really was a beautiful time for Playmobil.  At first I was going to paint it to give a little variety to the town but I do not know if I could now that I have seen it.

congratulations rasputin.  :)
1994 is a great year in playmo production.  :yup:
but it also has a "strange" quality.  :lens:
if you look at the archive, all the sets from this year seem to have weird lighting atmosphere.  ::)
everything seems to happen during a storm or between the end of the afternoon and nightfall. :hmm:

It's a wonderful building!

I bought mine just a few years after it was discontinued and luckily didn't have to pay much more than the original RRP.

Another really cool feature exclusive to this set (besides the gorgeous Molly and her pink lipstick :-*) is the long bar and matching mirrored cabinet. 8-)

I hope you will manage to obtain the missing parts for your saloon at a reasonable price. :crossed:

Lucky acquisition, Ras! I'm not a western theme collector, but it might look good as a building on fire for my PCFD on the scene of a working fire photo story  ;)!

Hi Cachalote  :elf:

You are quite correct on your observation . 94 was a dark year  :eh?:

Hi Sylvia  :elf:

I was not too disappointed in not getting the furniture and Molly . It gives me something to keep looking for  ;). The seller actually offered me the bar and cabinet for $14 each . At that price I think I will do with out and custom make something or not have it a bar but a store with a new sign.

Congratulations, Ras, that's a great buy and looks really smart.  Don't paint it, is my advice, just dedicate your life to finding the missing parts and enjoy it complete or otherwise.

Hello  :elf:

Thank you Bill, Tim & Gordon. I am very happy with finally getting one ( waited 2 years ) and now soon I will have two  <:> I low balled the second one and the seller accepted  :P

Gordon I was thinking of painting it before I even had it. Now that I do and I see what a beautiful color scheme it is I do not have the heart to do it. I think I will print a decal to cover the sign and make it a unique store or something.  Getting crossed signals is a lot better than being cross or getting double crossed ;D

That is truly one of the best Playmo sets, IMHO!  I hope you will soon be able to acquire the bar and cabinet to go with it.   :rudy:

Hello  :elf:

Thank you Martin & Indianna, I can not wait to get it out to the barn and work it into our western layout. The layout is quite crowded so I have no idea where it is going to go. Those darn Confederate and Union armies seem to keep growing.  I will be able to post pictures soon of it in its new home on the range .

Congratulations on your long awaited purchase, Rasputin!  I concur with you and others in thinking that the Golden Nugget Saloon is one of Playmobil's best sets ever.  I really like the big window, the colors, and how the exterior and interior have distinct textures.  The accessories are also superb, with the klickies, the bar and all its bottles, and the green "felt" poker table.  You should really try to acquire at least some of these if possible.

Like you I've wanted this set for several years, ever since I started collecting Playmobil as an adult and discovered all the wonderful sets I missed in the 1990s and early to mid 2000s.  Probably as you have, I've been watching e-bay for quite some time and it seems that prices for this set have steadily risen.  I stupidly underbid on a MIB set earlier this year and now the price it went for wouldn't even buy the used building itself.  After seeing what sets in various conditions and states of completion have been going for in the last few months, I finally bit the bullet and purchased a MIB set via a different avenue.  At first I felt that I paid too much, although not much more than open and mostly complete sets are going for, but when I opened it and put it together, I felt like I got a bargain.  I was also able to purchase a MIB Sheriff's Office at a good price on e-bay, so that helped ease the financial pain somewhat.  I like that set a lot too, albeit not quite as much as the Golden Nuggett Saloon.  With these purchases my Western town is beginning to come together, although I'd really love the Colorado Springs Station, the Church/School, the Ranch, and some of the older town buildings.  I guess I'll just have to make due with what I have.  Enjoy your Saloons!

Great set, i think the best think about western i reckon is that first of all there are soooooo many houses to buy from the old era and the so called golden mid 90s ( with reference to western) . the second that 1900/ dollhouse can be combined, the piano for example looks awesome in the saloon ! love the western , so many sets over the years, what a shame it has died of , but thank god for ebay!!!! great set reasputin you got there i reckon

The black piano in the Saloon would be great, Giorginetto!  Unfortunately, that set is somewhat rare and very expensive to find too!  I really should have kept collecting in the 1990s and early 2000s, as I would have saved a lot of money and been a lot happier!

Congratulations Rasputin! I know how frustrating it can be to wait and try to find something you want at a reasonable price, I am glad you were able to find one and doubly glad you could find two! That really is a good looking building.

Hi Rasputin,
I saw this hitching/roof post on ebay UK and wondered if you were interested.  I think it would be the same piece for the saloon as the sheriff's office.

Hello

Thank you Gepetto, yes my frustration on this one item is over  <:> now on to the other 999

Thank you Elaine, that is indeed the same piece. I will check with our US DS  ::) if they have it  :crossed:  otherwise I need to buy one similar to the auction you linked. I put it in my watch list just in case  :wow:

Giorginetto & Justin here it is open for business. The piano does look good in there, thanks for the tip. The piano is one item the kids do not play with. It is in a glass case in my office. Since it is out of sight out of mind I would not have thought of putting it in. I like it a lot and now I want more of them  ;D

That's a fun, full, lively scene, Rasputin!  I think it looks great with all the accessories and people you've included!

As far as trying DS for the post, I wouldn't count on it.  If I were you, I'd grab it from the e-bay seller immediately before someone else does.

Hi Rasputin,

What you have done with your saloon looks very good indeed, and has given me lot's of inspiration as I too bought a Golden Nugget with very little of the original accessories and have had no luck getting any ever since!

Ratsputin, what have you used for the bar counter?

Hi

   Thank you Justindo & Flatcat for the compliments. I really did not know what else to do with what I have. After the set up and reading Martins story it made me want to do another picture story. I hope to find some time soon  8}

The 2nd package has arrived  <:> and it is a bit more complete. It is missing Mrs Brown  :hissyfit: but for the price and what is does have I am in no position to complain ( not that much anyways  ). I was curious if any body knows what this set sold for in the US or at least in $ amount if it was in Germany or UK ?

(http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/723/p1010002vd.jpg) (http://img268.imageshack.us/i/p1010002vd.jpg/)
Notice anything unusual about the building ?

When I built it I had nowhere to put it for the pix so I put it on-top of the other one and I was given an idea  :eh?: I guess I need more DS or auction parts . If anybody spots 2 # 30 08 4350 let me know  :wow:

There's no stairs to get to the second floor. ;D
(I suppose it's something less obvious than that though. :))

I think the front window and door frames are inserted back-to-front on the upper storey. Or is it that the whole wall is the wrong way around?

I love the accessories and figures which you have used from other sets. It really has brought the saloon to life!

I hope that young boy doesn't hurt himself playing with the pistol he's borrowing. ;)

Ha ha!

It looks great though - I'm very envious.

My first ever klickies were the original cowboys and Indians, back in the mid 70's, but then I went on to Medieval, and I've never really bothered with the Western theme since.

So, it was a great shock a couple of weeks ago to find that, in an absent state of mind, I had acquired 2 Confederate wagons and limbers, 1 Union limber, the Gold Wagon and a small army of Civil War troops.

I'm now wondering if maybe they deserve a pub to drink in?

Oh yes, every soldier need a good place to relax . After a long night of "relaxing" you ,may need a sheriffs office to keep them in line, and then a flop house, and then a blacksmith for re shooing the horses, and then, and then ......... ;)

awesome set up !!!! love the piano in it , love the western theme in general so many houses and sets , the victorian house theme can so easily be combined and the confederate and union armies can looks absoloytely awesome with calalry, artillery and soldiers with bayonnaitte rifles. i was very tempted two years ago to buy 100 union and 100 rebels ( have about 25 of each .. :(   ) but went for the 200+ leggionaires instead .

Very tempted after i finish with setting up mediaval etc etc to buy some more western , would love to see some more pictures of your western stuff rasputin  :wow: :wow: :wow:, that saloon looks very good indeed !! :wow:

Here are some old pictures (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=3659.0). I have filled it in more and should take some new pictures. It will be a challenge to find a spot for this new building. I will first try to find the parts for the custom job I plan on and some special Klickies for it. That black upright piano is one of the Holy Grails for collectors. It's so useful, every Victorian Parlour should have one, yet Playmo have never seen fit to re-release it, going instead for a Liberace white baby grand in the Wedding theme.

I will never understand some of the thinking of the Playmobil designers.

Rasputin, I'm glad you got most of the accessories and the bartender with your second saloon!  As far as retail price goes, the MIB Sheriff's Office I received, which was around at the same time and is a comparable set, had a price tag of $50 USD on it, which seems about right, so I'm guessing the Golden Nugget Saloon sold for the same.  Today, the Sheriff's Office building alone as part of Playmobil's Add-Ons sells for $30 USD, so $50 with the box, all the accessories, and klickies is a fair price, in my opinion.  Of course that $50 USD bought a lot more 15 years ago than it does today!  Today I think the price would be about the same (maybe increased to $55).  Looking at it this way, if one accounts for inflation and considers this set as a benchmark, Playmobil is cheaper today than it was 15 years ago.  Of course I doubt this set would even be released today!

Adam, the only sets I have left from my childhood (thanks for throwing away my knights and castles and pirates and ships, mom!) are the Western sets, so I've been adding to them recently.  The Union and Confederate limbers and Gold Wagon are quite desirable.  I recently acquired a Confederate wagon and limber and am on the lookout for the Gold Wagon.

Giorginetto, you're right that the Victorian theme could go well with the Western theme.  I've picked up a few pricey Victorian interior sets to use with my Western and Pirate themes and the piano is the last one I really want.

Martin, I really hate that new white grand piano too!  It would look so much better and be so much more versatile in black!

Hi Giorginetto

Here are some old pictures (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=3659.0).    Rasputin "The Mad Monk"

Great stuff.  :wow: :wow: :wow:. western has probably more sets than any other as it can be combined with victorian. I really want to buy the school, train station, ranch that i havent got and many more of the old houses , there are so many of them  !!! Actually the old pirates ships ( no the new ones with the weird sails and cannons that look like air gum boys toys actually ... )  can also be combined very nicely especially sets as 3740 english ship and crew .. Awesome stuff .  i want some western sets now !!! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[......

I  have a vision in my mind  of a huge union and confederate army wth cavalry , cannons and lots of foot soldiers with bayonnaite rifles  ( and not all these winchesters , PM got it soooo wrong there ) and a big city in the background with all the western houses and some additional western cabins ( best  houses for building western cities )  and then an indian conservation nearby....
