Hi All,
Has anyone else noticed this image on the PayPal login screen?
And just for the record, I raise this not as any endorsement of PayPal! I just thought the image looked rather familiar...
Cheers,
AndrewL

Hmmm ... Wonder what the Geobra Copyright Police will think about this?
-
... maybe paypal is planning to change its name to PLAYpal. ;)
-
That's really odd. ???
If Geobra have not been approached for their permission, PayPal will probably be asked to remove it.
As a major commercial company, the only way I can see that PayPal would be allowed to use a Playmobil figure would be if the Playmobil website had some kind of tie-in with PayPal, for example if customers were able to pay for their online orders using PayPal. However, this just looks like a totally unrelated PayPal competition promo. :hmm:

Copyrights and what have you I think it is really neat to see a large silicone valley company choose to use the Klicky as their guarding logo. It could give Playmobil some much needed exposure in the US. It really goes to show you that somebody who has a decision making graphics job at PayPal/Ebay likes the toy.

I wonder whether this might be the type of online marketing that is very specifically tailored to the viewer's "preferences." Andrew, did that image appear to you after you had used Paypal to make a playmobil purchase? When I go to the link shown in the image in your post, I see a Nike sneaker and when I navigate around the UK Paypal site I see a variety of different images that are similar golden shadows in a blue box.
There is more and more of this type of thing online - search engines keep track of the things we do and then try to figure out what kinds of things we want to see (and buy, of course!) :0

I question if Pay Pal "purchased" this figure for their program security project if PM has the right to ask for removal? After all, they may have PAID for it, which brings us back to the right to customize without interference again!

My wife noticed this and showed me a week or so ago. She has never purchased Playmobil through Paypal or eBay.
It benefits Playmobil slightly through getting their product noticed, and costs them nothing, so they'd be fools to have it removed if it is unauthorised. OTOH they do do a lot of immensely stupid things.

Passing through Liverpool Street Station, I saw this same guy on an animated advertising screen. He waves his sword a bit.

Liverpool Street Station? Thought you were now living in the United States ... ???

Not until 9th December, then I will be.

Permanently?

Permanently?
That's the plan. I have my Immigrant Visa, we have an apartment sorted, we're selling our London home (it's now officially on the market) and will be buying a house in Eugene as soon as we can.
Can't say for 100% certain we will never live somewhere else, but we don't intend to move again. I've lived in London all my life (barring college years) and this house 17 years, so I don't tend to move often.

A BIG welcome to the United States, Martin!
I think that most of the "Yanks" here will join with me in saying that we are very glad to have you in the USA!
All the best,
Richard
