On Saturday the Victorian Mansion - 5300 - [NISB] went for $660 on ebay. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come or just spectacular timing on the part of the seller. Perhaps we shall see it at $1000 before the holiday season ends!!!

I could not believe it also ( here (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=3575.0) ). I was blown away when Colorado went high then this 8} were all rich :woohoo:
-
What was the price of the other? I don't have access to the link yet.....
-
The 5300 that started at $1 went for $660.00
the 5300 that started at $275 went for $400.00
The 3770 that started at $1 went for $450.00
the 3770 that started at $200 went for $224.50

If the House itself was not so heavy - hence extravagant shipping costs to the USA 8} - Ebay.uk is still so reasonable when it comes to the final price of the small or grand mansion or even extension floor :yup:
Were these houses BNIB by any chance as this could explain their rarity and price maybe ?

Yes they were brand new

I was bidding on 2 used 3526 fire engines over the weekend, on ebay.de, & 1 ended up going for 121 EUROs = to $181.00 USD, & the other went for $151.00 :o! Both were in very rough condition, but the trucks themselves were complete ???! I couldn't believe the ending results 8}!

What I am finding interesting is that there always seems to be one seller that floods the market with their MISB sets. It is very difficult [as a potential seller] to gauge when to put items on the auction block. For those of us who do not have cases of the theme pieces, waiting for the right time is more or less a crap shoot. The minute you put your set up and there are, at that time, no others like it, within 12 hours 3 more of the same pop up! I think this is true for most of the "highly collectible" themes. I have a 5300 MISB that I am willing to part with but I definitely want to get as much as I can for it... Knowing the last one went for $660 tells me that people are looking for it now and have the disposable income on hand! Will the availability go up or down as we approach the holidays...and just how high will it go??? Sometimes a crystal ball would be a good thing to own. Maybe I can find one on ebay!!!!!

Selling on ebay is a shot in the dark, here's a NIB 5300 that went for $128.49.

Why was this so cheap? In my opinion, lack of pictures - there's no pictures of the folder containing the instructions and wallpaper, there's no detailed pictures of the 2 styrofoam box contents. Obviosly some one got a good deal, but the seller left a good bit of money on the table as well.

That is a good deal, even after you factor in the shipping. The house originally sold in stores for $200-ish . I guess I am so used to the 5300 selling for such high prices I rarely even watch them on Ebay anymore . I do find them locally for decent prices. I think the last one was furnished w/expansion floor @ $150 and it sold fast .
I have seen some with no pictures at all and they sell for top dollar . I really do not think there is a formula one could follow to get the best price . I think a lot of emotion and "something in the air" at the time the auction is nearing its end will drive the price out of the park . There are all kinds of theories as to getting the best price but I think the best is if you can get a couple of deep pocketed, emotional people competing. :2c:

The last house [MISB] went for $350.95. Ebay is soooooo fickle!
-
Well you have to figure that each time one goes for a high price it probably removes that buyer form the equation. There isn't an unlimited supply of buyers who are willing to pay the really high end prices so if too many more of the same thing come up in a row then each time one sells the amount the buyers are willing to pay can slide lower.

I used to believe that as well, but it seems that now, seeing one sell for $350+ justifies the price for the next one - I wonder what this auction for a NIB 5300 plus 8 rooms of furniture will close at, $600+, maybe? Update - sold for $830

It seems that the prices for playmobil on Ebay have gone up quite a bit in the last 3 monhts. Here's a pile of junk selling of over $100. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230390644992 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230390644992). Maybe there's something really rare included that I'm not aware of, but it looks like $40 worth of stuff on a good day.
And trains! Just look what trains have been going for:
a 4005 (green loco passenger train) for $232 + $35 shipping.
a 4024 (frieght train) for $212 + $35 shipping.
or a 4010 (cargo train) for $224 + $30 shipping - last year these were $164 at playmobil.com with free shipping!

Who is wishing for a time machine right now ;)
-
You really do not need a time machine . It seems a lot of the Victorian stuff is going for a lot lately 4083 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180424152717&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching)
-
Heh I bought one last year for 15 euro on ebay
-
I thought it was not too long ago that the 4083 was at the stores being discounted due to too much stock ?
-
well we can watch if the market is saturated or not on the 5300 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220501557359&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching) New In Box
-
I guess the 4083 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190345109935&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)was not just a one time fluke :omg:
From what I remember wasn't it like $30 in the store ??? what that is like 850% 8}

Well looks like there still are some shoppers who will spend top dollar
$592 for the 5300 mint in box

I meant to buy all those great sets, my wife would kill me if I paid those insane ebay prices ;)

Hello 5300 collectors
Looks like some of the high dollar 5300's were not paid for ( or something else :hmm:) and were re-listed. I wonder if there was some buyers remorse or some shilling. I really do not like how Ebay now hides the names of bidders, it makes it so hard to keep track of shilling, deadbeats and general shenanigans ::)
The one that sold for $660 , on the re-list it went for $471.66 . When it sold originally the highest bidder is no longer with Ebay ?
The one with extra sets and went for $830, now is at $405 with one day to go . When it originally sold for $830 the highest bidder is also gone from Ebay ?

Who knows what's happening. The smaller sets seem to be going well. The MISB 5300's are not doing quite so well. On a positive note, I haven't seen a seller offer more than one of the houses - yet. I am curious who this "e***e" bidder is... I almost want to list something just to find out!
-
Hi Reylocann
S***E (185) Might be somebody you want to watch for too. They throw out some big bids :2c:.
The auction I mentioned in Reply #17 & #19 is also gone ? I do not remember Ebay being like this 8}
Rasputin "The Mad Monk"
EDIT: the seller who has the 5300 w/extra sets sent me the following
Thanks for your interest in this auction.
Yes this is a relist from the late October auction I had for this item. I received notice that the winning bidder was no longer a registered ebay member (5 days after the auction had ended). I offered a second chance offer to the next highest bidder, but they did not take it.
Thus the relist.
Thanks

A welcome (or not) reality check... last 5300 MISB went for $290.00 ;)
