Title: Does Playmobil produces exactly the same product for all the countries ?
Post by: playmovictorian on September 03, 2009, 08:01:19
Hi Playmofriends

Playmofire's just inspired me a question : does Playmobil produces the same identical product for all the countries or does it sometimes adapt its production to include signs that are unique to a country ?

As I know that most of you are not only very knowlegable but also have a pair of fine Eagles eyes, I would love to know about your comments with regards to your respective countries...

Thank you very much

Karim ;)

all blue boxes are not crated equally . Well actually the contents vary but they are more like special or exclusive sets rather than just minor changes with the same box # . There is the ADAC that i want and can not get or the blue construction trucks . There are some ships if i am not mistaken that were only in US

In general, the catalogue sets are the same with any differences made by stickers in different languages, although I think that this is less common than it was.  The main exception to this policy is the police sets where there are two sets of each item, one using the term polizei and the other using the term police.  There are other exceptions as Ras has indicated in special sets for a particular country or retailer.  The ADAC sets and the THW sets are two superb special sets and there are reviews here:

It's important to realize that there are two different types of releases. The general catalog releases and the exclusives. Exclusives are made for a single company or retail outlet. Sets released to US Target stores are usually a mix of exclusives and general release sets. The ADAC and THW sets mentioned are exclusive releases from German retailers. As Gordon said, the Police series sets are the big exception when it comes to the general catalog.

in the pirate world, karim, things started with a lot of versions.
the first playmobil pirate ship, the 3550 has a lot of "regional" twins.
you have the spanish famobil and the american schaper - both identical twins.
the spanish version seems, sometimes, to have also the 3483 number and the american one the 014.

and then you have the lyra version, that i assume has the same contents as the german original 3550.
... and the antex argentinian version - 13750 - that mixes the sails from the 3550 and the stickers form the 3750.
i would love to have its sailors, that are completely different from the european and american ones (never found them alone on ebay).
i guess that these "adaptations" have been disappearing for some years.

Well to be honest i was kinda shocked, when i just recently was looking at 2 boxed catalogs. This was brought to my attention by a friend of mine, some sets do have very weird, maybe even discriminating differances.
An example is the current police hq and police chopper, the language/wording is not the biggest difference.
The German sets only have "white" police officers, the european and world sets however show a dark coloured (no offense meant) figure in it in the same set. It's even marked with a different symbol.

That's truly kinda weird..... :hmm:

Can't seem to find the catalog at this moment....  :-\
