Title: REVIEW: 4370 Neustadt train platform
Post by: highlandcattle on August 30, 2009, 08:44:21
This is a review of the very first train station that playmobil ever made. I also think it is the most successful off all the platform only stations :
You also have the http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4382 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=4382): Which can be turned in to a very big train station if you buy multiple copies. But looks kinda silly as a seperate platform
The latest one the 4304, altough it sports the best klickies ever included with a trainplatform, the platform itself looks very unrealistic.
And then we also have the 4371 which is a poor man's 4370.

Sooo, back to the review of set 4370. I got lucky and scored a MIB copy of ebay. This has been sitting in an old toystore somewhere in the Belgian countryside. BUT NOW IT IS MINE AND I'M GOING TO OPEN IT  >:D.

The box is a bit tattered, but that does not bother me, I don't buy playmobil for the boxes.

What is in the box: Instruction sheet, stickers and playmobil!

I'm really horrible at applying stickers and in these old sets there are Always a lot of stickers.

If you look at the instruction sheet you would think that  the rail is included, sadly it ain't.

The platform is held together by these little yellow connectors. The systems is not as secure as steck or sysX. But once in place it holds everything together! It looks much better then the sysx platforms.

Ugh, I don't know what this is but the guard house was covered with it, luckily it came loose very easy.

I love that "nach Paris" sticker!

Mmmm fresh eighties klickies!

"FIN"

The train is coming....

You look funny....

Thank you for that great review, hc.  It really is a very nice set that and has that charm which goes with the old Playmobil sets. especially when you can pick them up MIB!

I was really amused by this set which has a mixed flavour of "Blues Brothers / Village People / Men in Black", it's quite funky !!! Or are the Black Eyed Peas gonna perform in the Playmo Station today as I see Fergie at the front :yup:?

I "updated" the two miniskirt girls. I love the miniskirts but I think the figures themselves are a bit basic. I tried to retain the 1960's feeling of the figures. These two friends are going to Paris!

Thanks for the review, hc. That's a very neat set you have there. I have always liked the look of older sets, just enough detail and nothing too special. Thanks a lot for the review and the pictures.

And tell your klickys not to poke fun at others just because they're old and look a bit different...

A few pictures of the recent version of Neustadt station in situ and with quite a mix of people from different periods and themes or is that Carnival time already in Neustadt  ?

You know what ? I am starting to wonder if our Playmos are not organizing their own Conventions and these pictures leaked from an ultra confidential file from the PIA ( Playmo Intelligence Agency ) I believe that the photographer was never seen alive again, poor Chap  :'(...

Hey Bill, is it you in picture No 3 ?

Guys, it is time to hide our credit cards away from our little Friends or we may be in for hefty travel expenses soon  ;) !!!

Thanks for the review and pics Highland! That gunky stuff on the house is old elastic band. If you're going to store Playmo for years, it's better NOT to hold pieces together with rubbed bands of they will degrade and this happens. Luckily it's usually easy to get off.

The 4370 platform is much better looking than the System X ones, which are littered with trip holes for Klickies to twist their ankles in and then sue the station owner. That's the real ugliness of System X, and sometimes you can explain away the holes mentally, but holes on horizontal surfaces just look awful.

The Platform is much lower to the ground than the later ones, which would make it a big step up into the train. It would work very well as waiting platform for trams or buses, as I've seen in various location in Europe (e.g. Caen)  and the USA (e.g. Eugene and Seattle).

I agree with you Martin, these multi holes are quite ugly  :yup:...

I prefer the old stations / platforms like HC was lucky enough to find and those matching different period themes...

Thank you for a great review of such a classic set . Your transformation of the 80's Klickies sure makes them look hip again .

Thank you all for the replies!

Playmovic -> I really love to obtain a 4301 riverdale, has anybody actually ever seen one in real life?

Martin -> Wow there really was almost nothing left of those rubberbands!

Ras -> I especially like the yellow boots under the miniskirt very trendy!

Great review of the train stations.  It's nice that playmobil made multiple stations for the different themes.

I have all the stations, but the Riverdale was the first one I bought and at that time (many years ago), we didn't keep all the pieces separate, nor save the boxes (actually, the boxes got crushed by little feet and tossed), so I only have the building and the accessories are scattered in bins with other sets.  I do still have the box for the Banhoff station (the 2nd station we acquired) with all the accessories.  Maybe Christmas will be the time to set up all the stations.   :D

I have Riverdale and put it on Walt’s Playmobil Layout sometimes.
It depends which size of layout I am exhibiting which station goes on the layout.

I love the miniskirts and the sixties haircuts a lot. I don't mind old style klickies, but love to update them in a sensible fashion, keep true to the original design, yet updated!
