Playmobil: The Secret of Pirate Island DVD
July 30, 2009
I love this title. Know why? I used to play with Playmobil characters when I was a kid. I have fond memory of their construction team kit, and I used to have these little guys building houses in my mom's flower beds in our backyard.
Now, the funny little Playmobil dolls, with their hands always ready to grasp something, are starring in their first movie, a DVD premiere called Playmobil: The Secret of Pirate Island. It will be released on Oct. 13 (prebook Sept. 10), priced at $19.95. Sorry, no Blu-ray. :)
Here's the summary from Sony:
Based on the best-selling Playmobil Pirates playset, PLAYMOBIL: THE SECRET OF PIRATE ISLAND is a full-length, interactive CGI animated movie. Young adventurers Jack and Amelia encounter pirates and more as they search for buried treasure on the mysterious Skull Island.
And the best part, in the special features, viewers will be able to decide how the story proceeds with a feature that allows for 28 story combinations. Oh, and a sing-along. How fun! Oh to be 5 again.
The movie was called Playmobil: The Secret of Skull Island at one point. Here's the trailer:

Finally I got my hands on one of these pirate island captains, and I must say it is really one of the best klickies of recent years.
BUT!
Why on earth couldn't they print the skulls and crossbones on the OTHER side of the hat? That way, the feather hole would've been at the back ... and the parrot could have faced forwards, rather than sideways as it does now.
*facepalm*
Why can't they do anything properly!?
::) ::) ::)

To be honest I watched the movie and it was very disapointing. Not what I expected..... Beside the fact that limbs bend and eyes and mouth (and tongue) moves, it's a very basic story for kids not older than 6. Sorry to burts your bubble dear friend! The best part about it is a couple of clickies I would love to get my hands on if they ever get to mass production. Like the afro 70's guy or the punk rock dude!
Best scene the one with the Vikings (real clicies btw) ok I will say no more.....
ENJOY!!!
Gaston.

It was DEFINITELY made for very young children, but I thought it was kind of cute. Not a riveting story line or anything, but the interactive feature is really cute for kids. I thought some of it was funny, especially the sequence where the skeletons were chasing them all around the island. And its been months since I watched it and I still have the little song in my head. la la... la la...la la la la la la la :wall:

Ugh, that movie is horrible beyond words. It's going to be a Christmas present for the twins, so of course I watched it first.
Not only is it not very pirate-y, but the "branching" choices you make never get to actually affect the outcome. :hmm: The story you're forced into isn't exactly the most gripping, either.
If you don't have this yet I'd recommend staying far, far away.

Oh my god! that song!! I had it in my mind for days!!! horrible!!
I just thought it was going to be a better movie. The story reminded me of how I used to play as a kid. Mayde it was intended that way.... but wel.... :-\
-
Yeah, the story was all over the place, crossing from one theme to the next, but that is the way kids play. Whatever characters they have, they'll put them in the story somehow.
-
I got it a while back but haven't taken the time to wacth it. Monstly because of the not so good reviews of it. I will get to it at some point.

I must say that it was a fan favorite for 2 weeks with my young ones!
They showed it to everyone, the story really isn't meant for adults indeed but if it makes my kids that happy it's a good movie in my book :-)
(Same with the new castle, they really enjoy the big one with all the moveable parts and the new "6 shooter" My son was shooting at my formations for over 30 minutes without getting bored :-)

As for the DVD,yeap its not for adults...its good for kids to see, I've tried it at y niece and her parents, my cousins had a good time, but that was only one and enough for them...

My kids love this movie. I like it too. My favorite part is when the old pirate chained to the wall tells the little boy "easy come, easy go!" When the boy puts the coin in the wall. So true!
Also anyone else notice that there is no skull ornamant on the bow of the ship?
