Title: Nobleman
Post by: Tiermann on December 17, 2005, 22:08:41
I am very happy with the combination of the Spanish Method and a pair of pliers I have found that fit exactly around a klicky head. So now that I can crack them apart more comfortably you will be seing more customs from me I think.
Here is one I did this month, a nobleman:

He looks very good, Tim.  Did you paint the cloak that colour?

Gorgeous! This is a viking torso, right? :)

Really nice combination of parts, Tim! I still rely on the hands-on disassembly method myself (or is it Hans-on?:eh?:). Glad you found something that works for you. I remember how excited I was when I first cracked a klicky. <:> It takes away a lot of the customising barriers and allows you to fully explore your creativity. 8-) :yup:

I really like your "Nobleman," Tim ...

A splendid figure that would be a great addition any Playmobil Medieval collection ...   :wow: ... :wow: ...  :wow: ...

All the best and Happy Holidays,
Richard

Hi,
He's really good. Silly question from a newbie, whats the spanish method of cracking, is it easier than doing it by hand?

No questions are silly, Maddy! ;)
You'll find a little more info on that method in this topic: Disassembly, the "Spanish" way (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=121.0) :)

Am I the only person who can't get the "Spanish method" to work? :(

No, I have tried several times.
I just cant seem to get the head to pop off using rubber bands/elstics

I was hoping to find a way to "crack" open the original females.
They are very difficult, and I usually destroy their tops, which makes it useless for me.

Well the rubber bands can't do the job by themselves - they are just a help to increase the pressure and make it easier to pull the head off using another tool. Gordon, have you tried using it in combination with your pincers? I think it makes it easier.

Lovely custom Tim! Glad you've gotten crackin'!

LOL! Don't let her find her klickies in disarray Maddy! Kids can be tough. ;)

I agree with others that combination of parts works well together.

A nice looking figure. :)

Regardless what method you use - this nobleman looks good anyway. I tried the Spanish method with decent success before I got to know the "Hands-on" method. Good job.  :)

Wow! That is a very nice looking nobleman. Excellent use of color to maintain a theme - I love it!

BTW, did you ever tell us if the cape was painted, or if it is original PM?
Title: Re: Nobleman

The cape is original but it came out of a parts play package so I am not sure what set it is from.
Thanks for the kind comments, Hopefully I will get to working on something else again soon.

I think this is the part number for the blue cloak: 30 07 8740 (http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-07-8740).
Wouldn't have found it so fast without Heather's amazing database! 8-)

Could be coincidence - the only forum I posted this one on is here by the way, so perhaps we are being watched  :hmm:

They are very similar aren't they.  :hmm:

I'm sure some of the design staff do look at the forums and take ideas from custom made pieces. However according to the book Playmobil have things in the planning stages years before we see them and any similarities to peoples designs are just coincidences.

Didn't noticed the similarity.
