“PLAYMOBIL WINS SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2008!”
At the recent Toy Industry Awards ceremony, Playmobil UK won the prestigious Supplier of the Year Award 2008. This award recognises companies across the whole offering to retailers, including customer care, stock availability and delivery service levels.

BEST STAND Playmobil invests thousands of pounds every year into displays and in-store theatre so it was fantastic to be awarded the Best Designed Stand at the UK Toy Fair in January. A lot of work goes into getting displays accurate and colourful, so it was a great to be given this award, which is judged on the best use of an exhibition space incorporating innovation, accessibility and imagination.

BEST NEW TOYS 2009 The British Toy and Hobby Association (BTHA) have judged a number of new products being launched in 2009 and presented its Top 30 products expected for success in 2009. Among this top 30, Playmobil have both the Police Seaplane and Vet’s Operating Theatre listed. Products are judged on their play value and perceived performance in the market for the year ahead. It is excellent to be nominated in this category, so to get two products listed is an achievement we are delighted with.

For the 2009 International Toy Fair, PLAYMOBIL is keeping true to its heritage and introducing more than 80 new products, all of which provide high play value, a crucial element in today’s economy. New themes include Egyptians, Wedding and a Veterinary Clinic.

A unique way to pique children’s interest in ancient history, the Egyptian line includes a massive pyramid, a royal ship, an Egyptian chariot and more. Perfect for children who dream of their own fairy tale wedding, the Wedding line includes a church, bride and groom, wedding guests and much more. The beautifully detailed sets can be the backdrop for fun imaginative play and, like all PLAYMOBIL toys, can be combined with any other set in the PLAYMOBIL line.

And, as always, they adhere to the high safety and lasting-play standards we have at PLAYMOBIL.”

A first for PLAYMOBIL in 2009 – a full-length DVD for children based on the PLAYMOBIL characters – set to be released this fall. “The Secret of Skull Island,” from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, will be the first-ever full-length 3D CGI animated movie based on PLAYMOBIL toys. With an interactive storyline and a host of bonus features, kids will let their imaginations go wild! All PLAYMOBIL toys are tested and certified by an independent, CPSC-accredited testing institute according to both European and American safety guidelines.

Recession averse: Playmobil sets sales record
Feb 2, 2009

Germany's largest toy manufacturer Playmobil makes fighting for survival in the global downturn look like child's play.  For the 8th successive year the company has reported record sales.  Last week figures were released indicating 6% growth and total revenues of 482 million Euro.  Playmobil predicts further single-digit growth for the coming year.

Managing Director Andrea Schauer was satisfied with the results and noted the firm will continue operating as previously, noting 'we have made few mistakes.”  She expressed her belief that the company is well-positioned, with solid leadership and a dynamic brand name. The bulk of the proceeds will be reinvested into the company.

Since 1974, Horst Brandstätter (sole proprietor) has been producing the much-loved plastic figurines.  With their cheery faces, moveable bodies and seemingly endless themes and accessories, these 7.5 cm tall men, women and children are some of Germany's fondest ambassadors, appearing in children's play areas across the globe. Having produced over 1.9 billion pieces since coming onto the market over 30 years ago, Playmobil is Germany's highest turnover toy manufacturer.

Enlarge image (© picture-alliance/dpa) Part of the successful strategy involves sustaining an increasing presence in foreign markets.  Sixty-eight percent of Playmobil's sales came from abroad.  They showed sharp growth in France, Spain, Greece and Italy and, thanks to cooperation with large retail distributors, have tapped into the  world's largest toy market, the United States. Sales there increased by 15%.

While Playmobil holds 8.6% of the market share in Germany (second only to Lego), sales there contracted by 4%. Schauer also announced price increases in the domestic market as of 5 February, due to increased salary and storage costs.

Unlike the majority of large international toy manufacturers, Playmobil does not have factories in China.  Playmobil's production centres are located in Germany, Chechnya, Spain and Malta.  The firm is based in Zirndorf, near Nürnburg.

Beginning February 5th is the 60th International Toy Fair in Nürnburg.  The five-day fair features approximately 2,700 exhibitors from over 60 countries, showcases new products and provides a comprehensive overview of the industry.

PLAYMOBIL-The Story of a Smile

This is the story of Hans Beck`s ingenious invention, the 2.9inch Playmobil figure and how within 30 years with the help of 1.7 billion figures he had conquered his very own country, now known as Playmobil Land. Hans Beck`s ingenious invention very nearly made only one public appearance. In 1974, Horst Brandstätter attempted to rescue the company, geobra Brandstätter GmbH & Co. KG, from looming bankruptcy by introducing the new play system in to the market. Toy shops, initially greeted the idea with a lack of intelligence, but the children understood it right away... In this book, you can learn more about the genesis of PLAYMOBIL and its inventor, Hans Beck, and take a peek behind the otherwise closed doors of the development and production departments. Unlike the majority of large international toy manufacturers, Playmobil does not have factories in China.  Playmobil's production centres are located in Germany, Chechnya, Spain and Malta.  The firm is based in Zirndorf, near Nürnburg.

I think they mean the Czech Republic here, don't they? Chechnya seems a bit too, how shall I put it, volatile to host a Playmobil factory.

not understanding a word of german i need an information - is the designer matali crasset (the one with the heavy galsses and stange hair) working for playmobil?  ???
... if this is the case, i think we should prepare ourselves for dark times ahead.

I agree that she looks a bit like "out of space"

I believe that she is "a" Designer interviewed about Playmobil as a design icon for its great versatility through the years and not part of the Playmobil Brand  ;).
