Title: Greetings from Portsmouth, UK
Post by: AndrewL on July 23, 2009, 11:30:12
Greetings All,

I just joined the forum, and so here I am to introduce myself.

I grew up in the US, and got a variety of Playmobil as a child (knights, pirates, cowboys and firemen), all of the old, fixed-hand sort. So you can guess my age...

Anyway, after a while, I 'grew out' of Playmobil and moved on to Lego, and then on electric guitars. But the Playmobil never got thrown away. After a number of years, I wound up living in Germany, but a combination of lack of space and lack of money meant about the only Playmobil I acquired was the Robin Hood special and the 'Robber Baron' knight and his dog. That is, until my then girlfriend (now wife  ;D yay!) bought me a 3666 castle on Ebay for my birthday.

I've since moved to England, and my collection has been slowly but surely growing. I collect just the medieval theme (I count the Vikings as medieval), though I do very much enjoy seeing collections and customs folks do in other themes.

I'm looking forward to seeing what other Playmobil enthusiasts are up to, and maybe sharing some images of some of my customs and medieval buildings.

Cheers,

AndrewL

Welcome from North Yorkshire in the UK, Andrew  and thanks for the detailed intro.  You sound something of a youngster really, but that's from a 65 years old perspective!  And Vikings mediaeval, no problem.  Nowadays the mediaeval period is usually seen as including them.

Medieval Greetings from Lisbon, AndrewL

Knights and Vikings (or altogether "Medieval" or "Pre-Medieval") are two of my favorite themes too!  :**:

Hope that you fit perfectly in this community, and that we all go beyond your perspectives!

Welcome Andrew!

I'm glad you had such a sensible girlfriend, and that you had the good sense to then marry her! Spousal attitudes towards Playmobil vary, and tolerance is the best many can hope for.

I'm impressed you can stick just to Medieval (and Vikings) - I got re-started via the Romans, and am now in the process of adding Egyptians to my collection, and have a smattering of most themes. I'm reversing your stats by moving from the UK to the US, hopefully in the next 6-8 months.

Do you still have your original klickeis then? I'd love to see a picture of some of the old guys.

cheers, Martin

Hi Andrew!

Welcome from up north and thanks for joining us. :)

It's lovely to hear a little about you and your Playmo collecting. I think it's fantastic that your wife fully supports and openly encourages your love of the little guys.

I hope you'll have lots of fun sharing your own ideas and creations and get plenty of inspiration from the other members. 8-)

Hi Andrew!

Welcome from Northern California!

I am new to the Playmobil world.  I started collecting just last December.  I like ancient cultures like Romans.  Can't wait for the Egyptians to come to the U.S. (which should be very soon!).

Hi everyone,

Many thanks for the warm welcome -- much appreciated!

Martin Milner asked about the first Klickies I mentioned:

Do you still have your original klickies then? I'd love to see a picture of some of the old guys.

Yes, and I've posted some pictures of them here:

Welcome mate!

I'm Gustavo, from Rio (Brasil).
Nice collection you posted there in that thread! :) I grew up with those, too, and I love to see those dishes (and spoons) ... Unfortunately, I was still a kid, when I didn't have any of them anymore :-[ ;D

(I came back to playmo only last year.)

I hope you enjoy it here. It's among the most friendly place I know in the internet. ('Name of the place is quite fair to the spirit of the place :) )

See you around
