Title: Olá from Lisboa, Portugal!
Post by: Miguel on February 19, 2009, 08:37:41
Hello to everyone!

My name is Miguel, I'm from Lisbon, Portugal (a country with "some" castles and with "some" medieval history), I'm a masseur that is very dedicated to the study of phisiology and psychology, under the perspective of massage and of our everyday routine, with the goal of improving life's quality (or if you want, a very short description: workaholic  8} ).

Ah...yes...Playmobil...I'm about to do 31 this year, and I received my first set (which I can't quite recall which one was, honestly) when I was about 5 or 6 years old.

I had a few ones when I was a child (even more "child" than I am now  :P ) and I just remember the shining helmets and armours from the knights (a pitty that they are not like that anymore), and the box of the bedouins set always calling me whenever I was passing in front of a toy shop...

Well, a few years ago, I've found some very old shops, with some very old sets, and I decided to collect them...and then I knew Ebay, and I got into that hectic activity of selling, trading MIB's...which was just about the remainders of the childhood joy, of all the sets I wanted to have as a child, but it wasn't possible at that time :)

So I have forgotten all the fun that it has to customize a character, with different armours, clothes, cloaks, heads, beard, etc etc etc...and I'm not into MIB's anymore, just loose figures, customizations, etc :)

Soooo...I'm back! And I'm able to find here new ideas and friendly people to enjoy talking about Playmobil, since I've been going through this forum, and it seems to me that it has a very very good quality, when comparing with others :) I'm with very good expectations  :D

aaahhh..... and my character (the avatar).... he doesn't have a name, so I'll wait for you to choose his name!   :confetti:

Best Regards To You All

Miguel

Welcome Miguel!     I am new to Playmofriends, too.

Your avatar looks like a wizard from Lord of the Rings or Merlin the Magician.  Perhaps "Miguel the Magician?"

Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone!

Playmofire, these were some of my favorite sets...I went through some cd's with old pictures (2004) right now... when I look at those pictures, I can't even believe that I had all those sets, and I ended up selling them on Ebay...  :( I remember that once I even went from the west side, to the east side, doing sort of rally lool through old localities with old shops...aaah this in Algarve, when I was living there. And I was able to collect some veeeeery interesting items...

Well, but for sure those old sets still have some use now for MIB collectors :) wherever they may be now :prays: looool right now I must focus on my (re) starting collection of loose figures right, otherwise I will cry over those old sets  :(

I went through a similar situation some years ago, & ended up selling many rare items on eBay, that to this day are nearly impossible to replace! The one mistake I made was not keeping the pictures of my original collection! I got angry, & put the pictures in the trash so I wouldn't have to be reminded  :-[! Welcome from one collection restarter to another!

What about ... Caran Hood the Red? :yup:
Maybe Caradhrasos. Wonderful character, by the way! Good to give him names! He looks like a guy of many names ... I'd say the sons of Durin would call him Khuzdulbuddu the Dwarf-friend!

 8} Never mind, I'm ... er, a bit nuts about master Ron(ald) T(olkien) :)

By the way,

Boas vindas brasileiras, caro Miguel! Somos três falantes de português agora, ainda que vc não vá me ver falando muito português aqui ... ;D For our playmofriends' sake ;)

I'm Gustavo. Nice to have you here!

So, see you around~

Hello Miguel! :D

Welcome from Scotland.

You must have had a wonderful collection at one time, judging by those pics. I hope you manage to reclaim some of those favourite sets at a reasonable price.

I think about downsizing my collection occasionally but I think I would find it too heartwrenching parting with most of the sets I have managed to obtain over the years. I'm certain I would regret it later on, just as you have done. ;)

Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself! Hope to read a lot more from you around the forum. :)

Hello Gustavo!

Thanks for the suggestions, but I rather let all that is related with Tolkien's world to be kept in their honoured corner in history  :yup: it's just my (extremely) personal point of view, though I love the mystic and fantasy worlds too  8}

ah!

And sorry to all about the portuguese, but I felt like needing to thank to Gustavo's comment in portuguese too  :) hope that you all can forgive me  :prays:

Hello Sylvia!

Yes, it's a bit hard to get apart from something very meaningful to us, even if in some stage we are not loving it as much as before. But from experience, I can say that that it's just a passing phase  :)

This week I bought an huge and old collection from someone that is going to leave the country. I immediately started to think about creating some dioramas to take some pictures, to sell things that I wouldn't have "that much" interest. Happily, my inner child started to feel confuse, and then I noticed that I would never have the opportunity to gather 19 playmobil train wagons (!!!) again, for a bargain.

So...I guess it's really better for us to keep our collection...and if the collection it's growing and growing, maybe we can politely ask our front door neighbour to keep some of our sets for us

For sure! :) I'm not only fascinated with Linguistics, Philology & Etymology, but my graduation at college is Latin Language & Literature. I love languages, and history of languages, and relations between them!

(If you'll rather have a Latin name for your character, I might think of something ;D )

(Or a "Germanish" ... Like my characters 8} One German name I particularly like is Fürchtegott, which is a German version of Timothy (from Latin time(re) theus/theos (Gr.)), I can't say which one appeared first, but I believe Fürchtegott is a possible translation of Timothy, due to the apostle's assistant ... I'm not sure of it, I might have to check it up. From Fürchtegott I made up Feortegot, whose eke is Feor. We could talk more in the PFZ section.)

...We could talk more in the PFZ section.

For sure! Just let me have some time to adapt myself to this new world of forums (I never have participated in any, or at least on an constant and active way) and we'll get down to some linguistic crosses and sharing  :D

Welcome Miguel!

I don't know how I missed your arrival.

There are some great castles in Portugal, I recall visiting two when I stayed in Albufeira a few years ago, one I think was in or near Portimao, and Paderne Castle,  within walking distance of Albufeira, at least if you don't mind a very dusty hot and sticky walk.

I'm in the process of considering a bit of downsizing, but wondering if the 10% I could bear to get rid of is worth the effort.

The great thing is that with a little care about packing and storage, there's no real harm that can come to Playmobil stored away for years.

cheers,  Martin

I don't know how I missed your arrival.

aaah but I have used one of my tricks, of course!

Much probably the castle that you have visited near Portimão, was Silves one. A red castle, with a theathre medieval space, which is not that common here.

I consider you lucky by having visited the Paderne castle, since it's not that known, and although is not that well kept, it's still an important piece of history, which is not very well supported in that region.

It's a pitty that you couldn't have visited the castles in the north of Portugal...such beautiful things, always with a mystic atmosphere inside them, in the land around them, and specially in the views you have from the castle.

And like you said: Playmobil stored away for years doesn't do any harm, and.......you always get the surprise about things you have already forgotten, and didn't know you have them  :D
