After seeing some amazing scenes and pictures here on Palymofriends I've been inspired to attempt some more detailed scenes on my own train layout. I have included a link to a set of pictures from my Flickr photostream:

I hope you enjoy. I'm still adding details and taking more pictures so I'll be posting more as I go along...
Here's a sample pic to get you started

these look great gloobey! I would love to spend the afternoon wandering around freight town!
-
Very nice Gloobey! Nice scenes well photographed, you have some very nice pieces. Thanks for the pix.

Thanks Gepetto, Wonderland5. I'm still practicing the camera work. It's easier to make a nice scene than it is to photograph it! Practice makes perfect I guess.

That's a very well-detailed and seriously impressive layout, gloobey. And excellently photographed. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Nice layout with lots of buildings and sets. The cobblestones are great are they just stickers or did you print them up?
Do you have any more overhead shots - like this one: Helps to get a sense of scale and how the town is put together.

Hi Knight Train,
I have posted some more aerial shots for you to see (thanks for asking!). Here's the link:

I've put a sample pic here too. The cobblestones are from an image that I created in CorelDraw. I used spray mount to attach the printed sheets to 1/4" foamcore. The foamcore sits on top of balsa wood stringers that fit nicely into the "toast" apertures. I didn't have enough Steck flooring sections so I came up with this instead.
I know now, that I must have the new Playmobil construction unimog :-[!
The new construction truck is AWESOME! It comes with alot of accessories and is an all-around great set (lots of fun to play with too).

I had hoped that one of the new fire engines would have been based on this. I've attached photos of a version sold by Dickie of Gemany. One of the members on klickywelt has made a nice custom using the Playmobil unimog chassis and cab and the 3880 rear body.

Wow great Pictures and lay out . I looked at a few but will have to find some special time to fully look and appreciate all you have there . thanks for showing

That's a great custom truck Playmofire. I'd like to see Playmobil include that many accessories!

Thanks for the compliment Rasputin. I've been inspired by so many amazing custom scenes and creations here. I just wanted to make my own contribution for people to enjoy :)

Thanks for the new pictures, I really like the 2 level layout with courtyards above the train tracks.

Sounds like a great article for the "how to" section.

Apologies, I didn't write clearly. The photos are of the Dickie toy firm's Unimog (made in China), not the custom from klickywelt. If you like, I'll find the custom one and post a pic of that but not here as it's taking the thread off topic and away from gloobey's great layout.
The new Playmobil fire engines do have a large number of accessories, more than the 3880 and 3879/3182 ones they replace.

Heh, I made the same terras the one you have with the blue house) last week. I'll try to make some pictures tomorrow. What do you use under the outer railing? I use one of these http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-02-8500 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-02-8500)

Thank you Playmofire for the photos, that Dickie truck seems to keep scale pretty well with the Klickys. I would love to see the custom from Klickywelt, I really like Unimogs.
Gloobey, Your layout is great as are your photos, the cobblestoned streets are an inspiration, I wondered how a printed street would look at that scale (pretty good as it turns out) and I like the animation your scenes have. Thank you.

Y'know, I didn't use anything! It seemed pretty solid so I left it alone. I think I'll stick one of those pieces in there to see how it looks. Thanks for the idea :) I'd love to see some of your pics too.
...and yes Playmofire, if it's not too much trouble I would like to see the custom fire truck you mentioned. The new unimog is definitely a good platform for custom work. I was thinking of a flatbed with a cloth covered frame.

If I use this technique again Gepetto I would definitely go a bit darker with the background and vary the stone with more colors. Also, adding a random second layer of stones (cut out and glued on) would really make it look alot nicer. It's a work in progress so I'll let you know what happens with some more experimentation. I did it this way because I ran out funds and wanted to use what I had lying around. bBeing creative is more rewarding than buying something that someone else did anyways.
