Title: Playmobil and Lego in the Press
Post by: playmofire on November 24, 2008, 09:59:57
On Saturday, The Independent newspaper had a "50 best Christmas gifts for children" list.  The Playmobil circus was no. 4 and there was no sign of Lego until no. 36 with Lego Crazy Action Contraptions which is a book of new ideas for Lego constructions, e.g. a trapdoor for a man to fall through.

Earlier in the week, Lego appeared more prominently in The Independent with news of an EU court case over whether the Lego brick with it's studs could be protected by trademark.  The court decided it couldn't as a brick was a functional, technical shape which could not be trademarked by any one company.  This is a victory for MegaBlocks, although Lego are likely to appeal.

No, the list was editorial material.  Each week The Independent on Saturday looks at a particular consumer area and lists what it's staff see as the 50 best.  Could be coats for winter, walks in the country, anything.

That still suggests that the list is influenced by a small number of people on the staff, and not by actual consumer sales.

Still it's nice to see the Circus featured - it's a non-aggressive and unisex set, and could give hours of fun for the whole family with each person animating different acts. Bagsy the clowns.

Heh, Martin's never read the biography of PT Barnum... meek and celibate don't come to mind!

Heh, heh, Martin your above statement is either extremely wholesome or quite twisted...
