Okay, they still need to be painted, but my wife is gone for a few days, so I moved 2 (I made 6) of them up to the living room (it's too cold in the garage now) and laid down some track. Each table is 4 foot by 8 foot and 33 inches tall.
Here's a few photos of all the playmobil cars (except one) and trains since 1987 with the exception of the RC 4011 and RC 4010 (cargo) which I didn't have room for. I also didn't have room for all the variants of the brown flat bed car, so you have the pipe car and the ones with the western and diesel sets as examples. And with 3 range cabooses, I didn't put down the 4123 car either.
Enjoy!

And as Bill says, enjoy while you can.

Wow that is so wonderful to look at :o. It reminds me of our freeway system around these parts :yup: Lots of cars and no where to go
I would love to see the progress of your project as it gets painted and the addition of the other 4 tables . That is like 192 sq. ft. of lay out . I think with the amount of wagons and engines you have that still will not be enough room .
Now if only more people would be such a purchasing power like yourself Playmobil would not be considering retiring the Train line :'(

very nice Train collection
As Rasputin , I fear you won't have enough table to drive them all
nevertheless ,they are so beautyfull to look at , specially the old series
thanks for sharing and risking your life and marriage to show us these ;)
all the best

Thanks, KT!
I am about to set up some 4x8s, and I was very curious as to how much train stuff would fit onto one board. I had no idea that you could get that much on one board ... :o
You have a very impressive train collection, KT!
I've been thinking about using four 4x8s, on saw horses, with an access space in the middle. The portable set-up should fit comfortably in the middle of most large rooms, attics, basements or garages. And, it can all be quickly taken down and stored when not being used.

Very impressive collection of trains, Knight Train.
Looks like you could use a 20 foot by 30 foot room for all your rolling stock :yup:
Richard, that plywood configuration you want to do would work out quite well.
You could even hinge a portion to gain easy access to the middle. I've never
done that, but have seen it done. Looks easy in the picture books!
Best regards,
Jimbo

I was thinking of some configurations that KT could do with his SIX 4 x 8s, Jimbo.
(Unfortunately, I don't have that much space in my new Playmoroom.)

On the train tables, I modeled mine after the ones Glazz74 made for his truly impressive display. They are 3/8" thick plywood with 1x3 frames to give them stiffness screwed around the edges and across every 2 feet, so you use two 8 foot 1x3 pieces and five 4 foot pieces. The concern he had was trying to get the overall weight down so one person could move a 8x4 section. They weigh about 40 pounds each, which is less than a single sheet of 3/4 inch plywood.
As for legs, I'm using 2 inch PVC pipe. Four legs for each table, so I can put them up and take them down without a lot of effort or needing a bunch of sawhorses.
The legs are pretty clever, you glue 3/4 inch plywood pieces 6 to 8 inches square in the corners and mount a 2 inch end-cap via screws in the center of the plywood. Then from a 10 foot two inch pipe you can cut four 30 inch legs. Sand the end of the pipe so it goes into the end-cap smoothly - you want to be able to remove them easily.
I didn't make it to the Puyallup train show last weekend, but last year Glazz74 had made a cart with wheels for moving and storing his PVC legs. His setup is VERY impressive - I think it's about 36 feet by 16 feet!!

Any luck with getting pictures of his set up for more inspiration

Thanks for the link :wow: I think your Train empire now classifies you and Glazz as "Railroad Tycoons" .
For some reason when there is a lay-out of trains, building, cars, people & construction it just gives the whole scene a completeness.
After looking at so many pictures of what people do in here, I would love to find a way to take everybody's collections, add them all up into one huge warehouse display. I think we would gain a little or a lot more attention from Playmobil as a collectors force :hmm: or we just charge admission to finance more collecting ;)

Here's 2 pictures from a train show about a year ago.
The first gives you an idea of the size of Glazz74's layout. Note the construction crane on the upper right behind it just barely in view if you look hard is the airport complete with a two large planes and a few bi-planes.
The second gives you a sense of the attention to detail. There are skunks walking in front of the DHL truck on the left, but the vacation house is blocking the view.
