Well with Christmas just around the corner i decided today to build a little more room . I could not go out and up was the path or least resistance .
The first one is 4 feet long 30" wide and as high as the ceiling . i was able to make 4 shelves on it .
(http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/3197/p1010048sz8.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
It has a castle on the first shelf
(http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6634/p10100011mq5.jpg)
a western scene on the second shelf
(http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/3151/p1010053nf7.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
a western home-stead on the third
(http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/7873/p1010055pn1.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
and some castle shops on the forth
(http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/1271/p10100021dm9.jpg)
The other unit is a bit longer ( 6' ) and only has 3 shelves do to the over head light i did not want to obstruct ( yet )
(http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/4750/p1010049cd9.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
The first shelf is the soccer game
(http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/968/p1010050fr5.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
The second is the air port
(http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4690/p1010051fz6.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
And the third is the dino expedition
(http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/5787/p1010052hi9.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)
all i need to do now is to paint the legs brown to match the cloth and i think that will make it look a lot less obtrusive

That is very nice Rasputin!! Just to have the room to maneuver the lumber around is impressive yet alone being able to construct shelves big enough to hold your dioramas (were those riot police at your soccer game?).
Nice too that you now have more space available for the Christmas haul. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

I built it right in its spot . I would have knocked half of my displays to the ground trying to wrestle it in if it were built outside . I am very clumsy and rough when it comes to moving things . The foose ball table was hard enough to get out of the room .
Yes the riot police are there to protect one of the star players . You can see the kids trying to her an autograph .
Thank you and you are welcome

A very workmanlike job that will serve you well for a long time. I wish I had a room like that rather than having to keep everything in boxes and haul it all out and downstairs from the loft to set it up in the garage or outside and then haul it all back into the loft. When we move that problem should be solved, when we move that is. :(
I like the brown cloth you've used on the shelves, and painting the framework to match will help it blend in as you suggest.
Your approach to moving things sounds a bit like mine!
The football game layout is my favourite, things seem to be at an exciting point there.

I could not imagine you being clumsy being a fireman and all . If i were to be clumsy on the job i smash a house or some thing silly buy you have ( or had ) a very intense life threatening job. :wow:
The brown cloth finally came in handy after sitting in our barn for over 6 years . A friends mom had a shop selling India imports and when she closed shop we took a lot of stuff including large rolls of fabric.
The football ( or soccer ) is one of mine and the kids favorite spots and we made sure it was situated there so we all could access it for a game . I am going to get a few bleachers so all the fans can have a place to riot and fall down the stairs :P

Like Gordon I'm green with envy, my display area is about two of your shelves. Everything else is boxed or piled up waiting to be stored.
I'd love to be able to have more than two displays at once, so I could keep several permanent set ups. You've done a brilliant job!

nice work
and lol , your playmo is a s dusty as mine ;D

Excellent work, Rasputin.
Your collection is very well presented.
My Playmobil is stored mostly in boxes, with a few displayed in "my" room :)
Best regards,
Jimbo

Ah, it depends where I am. At an incident you're in an environment you've trained for, working at home it's different. At home, things tend to work like this unless I really discipline myself.
"There's the PM box I want, at the back. Hm, should be able to reach it."
Takes two steps forward.
"Now what did I catch?"
Turns round and catches something else...
and so it goes on. 8}

Thank you Martin, There is one catch that will turn that green a little darker. I have to listen to my wife ( not that much anymore ) and from my father in-law who really already found me, well different , and now this . He was disciplined by nuns so according to him i should be paddled daily for my indulgent sins :whip:

Thanks for reminding me :-[ I wonder if one of those ion windless air filters would help . The only problem is i leave the windows open year round .

Thank you Bill, The completeness is probable the largest reason for me collecting the toy . I try to use it as much as possible to educate the boys and if it is all out we can see it and use it on a whim . The boys are allowed to play with just about anything they ask for as long as they clean up afterwards .

Very creative and excellent use of space, Rasputin!
Interesting to read about you and Gordon being a bit clumsy.
I wonder if being somewhat of a klutz is part of being a Playmobil fan? ... :klickywink:
I remember rather vividly going after my collection of empty Playmobil boxes. It was the week that I "retired" from our firm. A slight slip off the ladder resulted in a fall from the attic to the concrete floor below. Four broken ribs helped me to remember that I wasn't invincible ...
Thanks for sharing your very good storage ideas with us.
All the best,
Richard

Thanks for the compliments. That story sounds like something i will be doing in my golden years. For now i just have to listen to my wife comments about living with me is like living with a bear in the house
Actually i just was reminded of how when i was moving the ladder to get to the top shelf i was being so careful not to hit the trains below i failed to look up and i hit the space station .
I had built a complete orb station complete with docking station and when i hit it it came crashing down on top of my head exploding into bits 8}

Two comments and one question, Rasputin ...
1. Your children are beautiful!
2. Love your cobwebs of space!
3. What happens when you turn on your ceiling fan?
Thanks for letting us visit ...
All the best,
Richard
