Title: Hello and Hello again.
Post by: Jahme88 on August 07, 2008, 19:33:47
 :D  Howdy all.

It's nice to be among Playmofriends.

My name is Jamie, you can call me Jamie Jo.
I am mother of Emma Jo, a 6 year old little girl that I have totally brainwashed into loving Playmobil too.  Not a holiday or birthday goes by that doesn't include some blue boxes for me....errrm, I mean her.   :P  My sweet husband does his best to put up with my compulsive need to buy more plastic people. :-*

We live in Missouri, way out in the country, about 30 minutes east of the Kansas City area.  I have cows and lots of hay for neighbors.  We are those weirdo homeschooling people you hear about.  We are the kind of folks that happily march to our own drummers.

I have known of Playmobil since I was a little kid and a playmate stabbed me in the side with a little silver knights sword.  :omg:  I became obsessed with the Victorian line when I saw it in a store at the mall as a teenager.  I swiped a catalog and daydreamed about having everything I saw.  At that time, there was no way in heck my parents would have let me collect these toys.  They were relieved that I had just grown out of G.I. Joe's and comicbooks.  But once a collector, always a collector..... I am sure there is an entry about it in the DSM4.  8}

I remembered my Playmo longings when I was shopping at the first newly opened Target in our area with my newborn daughter in 2002.  I saw the Nativity Set and it was like kismet.   8-)
I attempted at first to follow restrictive collecting guidelines....like no modern themes....until I fell in love with the motorcycles sets and the police sets and the construction line and......you see where I am going. :yup:  So now I pretty much collect everything that tickles my fancy.  Which is dern near everything I see.

The ultimate plan is to build the new house that I designed that has a Playmoville room that allows me to set everything up at once in a configuration vaguely reminiscent of the layout of Disney's Magic Kingdom.  A central princess castle, Adventureland to the left with pirates rounding the corner into a Frontierland complete with all sorts of cowboys and indians, with a haunted mansion in between it and Fantasyland which is behind the castle, keep going round past the circus/fair and on into the modern and futuristic tomorrowland all surrounded by an old time train, maybe make an ode to Mainstreet.........yadda yadda yadda.  SO as you might guess, one of the other deeply held obsessions is Disneyworld.  Meshing WDW and Playmo in my own private tiny world will be a dream come true to say the least.

Alright, enough of me already.  I am longwinded......get used to it. :woohoo:  Feel free to check out my Myspace page if you feel the strange urge to know more about me.  http://www.myspace.com/jahme88

Thanks to Martin Milner and Sir Turk for encouraging me to join ya'll here.  I look forward to making new friends and expanding the connections I have already made in the Playmo collectors community.

Welcome Jamie Jo!

Glad to see you here, and your obsession, er,  compulsive collecting, little hobby is fully understood and appreciated here!

We have one or two strange folk who somehow manage to limit themselves to one theme, but generally we greedily grab anything Playmobil-related we fancy and then work out how we're going to explain things to our wives, husbands, or occasionally children.

There are a lot of customisers here too, so usually we can excuse any purchase as being just right for a particular idea or story we might one day complete.

enjoy!   Martin

Greetings Jaimie Jo, and welcome from the Pacific Northwest!

I think your idea about WDW is fantastic! What a great way to tie the different themes into a cohesive whole and if you use all Playmobil it would only be about 1/4 the size of the real one! Sounds like you better give DS a call and start getting those rose bushes and gardeners in.

Great to have you here with us!

Howdy, Jamie Jo!

I like you already, as I LOVE DISNEY...  ...and Playmobil just as well...  :yup:
Hey, and I have a six year kid... ...hm, I guess we are both 33 then?  :hmm:

Anyway, warm welcomes from the stormy baltic sea far north in Germany...

best,
socrates

Hi from swelteringly-hot southern Mississippi,

Glad to have you here.  I'm the newest member besides you - only been here for a couple of days. . .  This really is a great community and I am spending far to much time here. Hope you feel as welcome here as I do.

Nice to meet you,
Kelly

Hi Jamie Jo

Welcome from Scotland! :)

It's lovely to meet you and read all about your Playmo obsession. ;D

Like you, I tried to limit myself to just a few themes (in my case it was Knights, Fairytale/Magic and Victorian) and steered clear of modern stuff when I first started collecting in 2001, but I soon caved in too.  :P

There's just too many cool accessories in the City Life sets and it's incredibly appealing being able to create a miniature version of the real world right down to the small details like lap tops, hair dryers and cell phones. 8-)

Have fun at PlaymoFriends! I hope to read a lot more from you around the forum. :)

Hi Jamie, glad you could make it!

Jamie lives in the vicinity of some of my childhood romping grounds, metropolises such as Excelsior Springs and the Mecca of 1970s shopping malls, Independence Center.  She is also the American mastermind behind the coaxing of Playmobil USA to agree to let us exchange Romans with painted arms for the correct, embossed kind.  So if you've done a Roman exchange, it was probably with help from Jamie.

Thanks to Martin Milner and Sir Turk for encouraging me to join ya'll here.  I look forward to making new friends and expanding the connections I have already made in the Playmo collectors community.

PS. I'm known by my forum name, Tim, here.  I was kind of a rube to use my real name (Sir Turk) on Playmoboard.

Hi Jamie Jo from the UK, nice to see you here  and to read about your love of Playmobil and your plans for the future.  We've met on other boards in the past.

Don't we all want a Playmobil room!  (Well, in my case I call it a study/office, so we're planning to move house so I can have a study/office!)

Welcome, Jamie Jo!

Finally, this forum will have someone who will speak more than myself ...

[(If you take a look at my introduction (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=2185.0), you'll understand what I mean ...)]
 ::)

Uhm, I've seen you at Playmoboard. I'm there, too, however I'm much more active here, and seldom go there.

I hope you'll feel at home here.
I like it here because I feel more like in a room with (playmo)friends ... People are VERY friendly here :yup:

(I joined about mid April this year.)

Btw, I'm Gustavo,
live in Rio, Brasil,

people here call me Gus.

Hope we can see bits of your collection ::) of Emma's collection, through pictures ...
Do you use a camera? ;D

Nice to see you here.

Gus

Hello, Jamie Jo ...

I BIG welcome from the beautiful United States Virgin Islands!

I love your idea about creating a Playmobil mini-Disneyworld ...
(I'm sure the folks in Zirndorf would prefer that you created a Playmobil mini-FunPark) ...

However, in my humble opinion, a Playmobil mini-Disneyworld would be a lot more fun!

Please post photos when you finally get to start your WallyPlaymoWorld, so that we can all see your work in progress.

All the best and happy that you're here,
Richard
