Title: new direct service pirates 2008
Post by: cachalote on April 29, 2008, 17:57:17
copying-pasting-cropping customizer  :wow: images in the new ds catalogue for 2008, i found a few new pirate sets.
i decided to create this new thread so that better images could be added in the future.  :yup:
as pirates seem to be an important family here at playmofriends (they got the 2nd place in "what's my favourite theme poll") i hope this new thread can be considered justified.  :)
here's the list:
- 7373ds . 2 kanonen mit enterhaken und geschossen
- 7376ds . soldatenfestung mit beweglichen kran
- 7377ds . turmverlies mit skelett und wachhund
- 7380ds . piraten kapitan
- 7381ds . 3 piraten
the images i add are very bad (as i said earlier)...
  :'(

That looks like a new crop of DS pirates I'm going to have to get.

I welcome the small building sets - my first problem when trying to do a Pirates photo story was trying to get the stone buildings, as they've never done enough in one set to make a decent building. A couple of each of 7376 and 7377 and my pirate building problems might be ended - though I suspect it still won't be a cheap option.

I'll probably buying at least one of each of those for my pirate theme.

First playmobil pirates (such as 3542 (http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3542.htm)) are hardly identified as "Caribbean scum" ... The more recent lines of klickies are very identifiable as "dirty dogs" ... Maybe we can say that the theme passed through sensible change throughout the years ... (The "pirates" of 3542 can perfectly be used as soldiers of a Napoleonic military company, can't they? ...)

I can't say that pirates are my second favourite theme ... They are dear as much as the early klicky medieval collection, and together with the discontinued 1900.

I also think, Cachalote, that you might include the framework yellow house in the pirates theme. I remember the first dioramas with the first Playmobil pirate ship used always to bring European ports, and the cities were made of framework houses, and it is very proper.

What do you think about it?

(Then, since the Pirate Island (3799 (http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3799.htm)), they began to invest more in "the Caribbeans", so as to give a spirit more close to Stevenson's Treasure Island, which is great!, but doesn't nulifies the European port dioramas, and the concept ...)

After all, the action in Treasure Island begins in England!

He is!  I just googled the Virgin Islands!

After all, the action in Treasure Island begins in England!

The dioramas I remember, with framework houses, made me fantasize ports in the Netherlands! ... :yup:

I've been dreaming about two new possible dioramas (and I intend to speak about it in the blog, in the future*):

1. Napoleon's speech to troops near the pyramids (possible with set 4240, look up at Playmobil.com (http://www.playmobil.de/)** ...) :yup:
2. Moby Dick being hunted by Ahab (or vice-versa) (set 4489) -- no matter what ecologists will say about it / I don't defend whale hunting myself, only it is part of either History & Literature ... I am saying this afore head because I think it may give loooong discussions in the future ... 8} :)

:wow:

*Not about the dreams, but about the possible dioramas ... Who knows by them the pictures will exist already ... I believe they won't take long to come out from somewhere, just a hint. :hmm:
**4240 in Ägypter, 4489 in Meerestierexpedition ;)

My geography is a little rusty, but Richard might be Caribbean Scum!

He is!  I just googled the Virgin Islands!

He seems to have the mood to be, but I know him for too little time to say ... You should probably ask him! ...  ;D

I am a bit of a dirty dog myself ... I hope to make a few (playmo)pictures, so as to show you guys. :)

here's a better (not that much) picture of the new d.s. pirates, posted by seerauber from klickywelt.  :wow:

after a closer inspection, only the figure in the right seems to be new.  :hmm:
all tha other klickies are identical to existing ones in other sets or more or less the same
  :)

only the figure in the right seems to be new.

I wonder whether Geobra is giving some kind of breath, so as to invest harder in the Spanish navy (4294 & 4295) -- Well, I think I can dream a bit, can't I? ... -- If they do so, I hope they don't keep mixing the XVth century with the XVIIIth; that hat they gave the "don capitán", in 4294, bothers me a bit, for anachronism ... It's definitely not educational! :hmm:

(All the rest of the set is lovely, though.)

Anyway, what I mean is that they may have in mind to launch something after. Piratas estão na moda ... "Pirates are making money", so as to say something like in English. (Maybe ... "Pirates are selling books" -- Aw, translation is quite a complex art! ::) )

Do you think the XVIIIth century collection (vulgar "pirates") might be affected anyhow, if a XVth century came up? ... They're very different periods.

 :)

Have you seen Ralf's Napoleon in Egypt Playmobil sets? Click HERE (http://gardenwargaming.com/RalfGemein/NapoleonEgypt.htm)!

Perhaps (for the many reasons that you have already stated above), Moby Dick might be a diorama subject that we may want to avoid making ... ???

All the best,
Richard

Richard,

I am curious?????????  How does Ralph make his pictures look like they are the fronts of Boxes?? Is this a computer art program?  Is he an artist as well as a talented customizer?  I have enjoyed looking at all his works but I keep wondering how does he do it?

Thanks,
Janice

I'm sure he has a template image that he superimposes his photographs against.  But, how does he so cleanly cut the picture away from the background?  Or is the background "real"--part of the display he sets his figures against?

Yes, Ralf Gemein is an accomplished artist ... Click HERE (http://www.ralfgemein.de/seiten/wandmalerei.htm)!

We have not asked Ralf, but he probably uses Adobe Photoshop (or a similar program) to create his wonderful "boxes" of imaginary Playmobil sets.

Playmofriends Sylvia is a very competent and gifted Photoshop artist. Sylvia could no doubt answer your question much better that I can, Janice.

All the best,
Richard

Well not that i condone whale hunting but we seem to be getting all the parts for it . The 3551 Fishing Trawler, the new 4489 whale, and now that 7373 grappling hook cannon can easily be made into a harpoon . I guess you could even use the 4472 Cargo ship to ram the whalers  ;)

It's more easy, that most people think.

Look this, just 10 minutes with photoshop...

Thank you all for your answers!  I'm still trying to learn how to use a camera..Ha.  I tried to input some photos into the album and they didn't go in like I wanted them to.  I've given up for a while.

Your works fascinate me.

Hello, Gustavo ...

Have you seen Ralf's Napoleon in Egypt Playmobil sets? Click HERE (http://gardenwargaming.com/RalfGemein/NapoleonEgypt.htm)!

Have I seen it?? ... Well, not only I saw it, mate, as it's one of the most booootiful things I've ever seen!! :yup: ... I had seen it in the other post, intitled "TEN YEARS" that you posted. It's great: it feels really like the 1900 collection, I mean, to look at the pictures really makes me feel like I felt, when I saw the first 1900 sets ... Something like a dream, or a vision, or like thinking "is it real?" (I remember that I felt really like this when I saw the first Victorian sets, in a supermarket ... Euromarché, in Vila Nova de Gaia ... We used to go there, and it was a new sm, back in the early '90s ... There I bought the first sets I had, in the theme) ... They didn't look real, and, in a way, I think I felt so because I had never before seen anything so well conceived. In this way, I think, this Napoleonic collection rises the same feeling in the bottom of my being :yup:

(It's really a pity that, unlike the 1900s, I cannot buy these ... :'( )

But they're great, and it's enough for me! ;) Thanks for sharing it with us here, in Playmofriends Richard! :)

And, there are more to come ... every month for the rest of this year, there's a NEW theme!

Don't give up yet Janice! My wife's grandmother is 79, and has just started using a digital camera for photos and short movie clips.

I think that's fair enough, considering these figures are add-ons. Not every body manages to get every set in the range, and it's easy enough to customise Pirate figures for a whole new look, and they're probably the most diverse group of characters in any Playmobil theme.

And you're quite right. There are some very nice sets among the new DS sets.

Seeing the crenellation on these DS set (in cachalote's post) and previous pirate-era fortifications makes me wonder why Playmobil didn't stick with this style for the Knights castles.

Then people could continue to build walls whatever height they like (given sufficient parts)  even with system X.

Has anybody tried building a castle using only these lighter-coloured stone parts? I'm guessing it'd turn out pretty expensive.

It probably would be pretty expensive!
(And, it probably wouldn't look anywhere near as good as a Steck or SystemX castle.)

What is very fascinating about these two new DS sets (7376 and 7377) is that one is SystemX and the other is Steck System. It is curious that Zirndorf would produce an old Steck System tower when they had produced a SystemX tower (3285) that would have complemented the new DS set 7376... ???

Here is a picture of the SystemX tower ...

Pirate Lagoon (Set 3285)

Please take a look at the two new DS sets and the original sets that they came from.
