Title: Old Playmobil catalogues
Post by: LHAAP on February 21, 2008, 15:01:02
Hello all Playmo-freaks :)

I just want to know if anybody on this forum is interested in pictures of the old Playmobil catalogues. Here I'm thinking of 1995 and back but other years can occur.
I start out with this wonderful News catalog from the year 1994.
Everyone is welcome to upload catalogue pictures 8-)

:)  What a great idea!  Thanks for posting these - it will be a good resource for collectors and just plain interesting to boot!   :wow:

Have you thought about using the album feature here at Playmofriends?  That might be a good place to put your catalog photos for easy access over time.

I am not sure how to use the album feature, myself  :-[ , but here is a link to Sylvia's album instructions:  http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=195.0

I like old catalogues and I'm trying to collect all of the UK Playmobil catalogues from 1981. They are a great source of information for a collector like myself, they can help with release dates for the UK market since they differ from those dates in the Playmo Collector guides.

I look forward to viewing your catalogues from the earlier years so that I can compare the sets listed in them with UK ones.

Nice to hear about others who also collect catalogues. May I ask how many years you have covered with your UK-Collection until now??? And are there any specific years you are interested in then I can see if I can upload pictures today 8-)

Title: Re: Old Playmobil catalogues
Post by: Sir Gareth on February 23, 2008, 17:29:16
I didn't really start collecting catalogues until about June last year and I'm only interesred in UK ones and of course they have to be in good condition. UK catalogues do turn up on UK Ebay regulary but mainly those from the later 90's It's mainly catalogues from the 80's that I'm still searching for.

The years that I have so far are, 81/82? ( not confirmed yet), 1985, 1990,1991,1992, 1995,1999 (25 year),1999, then they go from 01/02 up to now 2008.

I do have others 1998, 2000 and 2001 but they are well used and falling apart and I want to replace them.

It's difficult to state what years I am interested in until I have all of the catalogues which will then give me the full History of Playmobil releases to the UK.

As we all know what ever sets are released in Germany we usually get the following year here in the UK, apart from the odd limited items such as the eggs. This has not always been the case, comparing my 1985 catalogue with the same years releases in the Playmobil collector we actually got a lot of the sets at the same time, so when did we become a year behind?

Going back to the eggs, for those of us that have the 2nd edition of the playmobil collector you will all see on page 299 that the eggs released in 2000 number 3060 are shown as an exclusive to BNL.
The odd thing is that in my 1999 25 year catalogue those same eggs are shown as being available to the UK market one year earlier?

I'm also interested in DS sets and would like to find out when DS was 1st available to the UK market and I'm sure when I get either 1993's or 1994's catalogue this question will be answered.

Once I have all of the catalogues I will be able to do an accurate archive of Uk releases by each year Similar to the archive on Playmobil.de.

Yes, yes... yes...  I just started collecting catalogs in 2005.  I now have 2005 to present (2008).  If anyone in the US has any older catalogs with the addon section and or price guides and are willing to part with them, please contact me at: the1hugh@yahoo.com.  Many thanks.

I'd love to see more DS catalogues, from anywhere in the world... there are lots of resources for information on standard sets, but few on add-ons.  I have in PlaymoDB, let's see, 541 sets with 7xxx numbers, which means, logically, that there are, or will be, 459 sets I'm missing (grits teeth)!  Only the most recent of that 541 have nice pictures, either, which is often the only clue to a set's contents as there are rarely instructions.

Thank you for posting these pictures . As soon as i get my camera back i will try to find the few i have in the US .

Looking at all those old add on sets makes me wish i had more of the particular sets . It is strange to think that this is 14 years old and the catalogs we have now will be admired in 2022 the same way . I better go and buy some more sets to avoid any regret issues :P

Thanks very much, LHAPP!  I already see some add-on sets I don't have recorded.  I'll be making note of the French set names, too, for some future possible multi-lingual purpose.  I love the covers and incidental art, my favourite being the postman delivering the big box!

My feelings exactly. The trick now if to figure out which ones you will feel that way about 10 years from now and get them before it's too late.

Thank you for all your work in posting the catalogues, LHAPP, they really are very interesting, especially from the point of view of how long some items have been around.  The 7301 farm trailer tank shown in the 1992 French DS catalogue only disppeared from the UK DS catalogue this year if I remember rightly, last year at the earliest, so it's been around for at least 15 or 16 years.  PM certainly covered the cost of the moulds on that one!

That catalogue adds another two years to the life of the farm trailer tank!  It's interesting to see additional floors for the Steck houses for sale rather than complete houses.

It is ideas like these that would help Playmobil better market their toys here in the US . If they would print cartoon like catalogs along with their product catalog it would help encourage kids to play with and want more of the toy line. It seems like Playmobil had a lot more creativity in their old catalogs with all the setups and drawings . I also think it was more kid based with pictures of elephants riding on top of trains . Now they seem to be so reality based . No more drinking monks or hippies pushing bikers off cliffs .

Interestingly, on the fire and rescue page the full page diorama shows the 3525 fire engine, version 2, with white wheels and chassis and orange bodywork, but the picture bottom left shows the original version 1 with red wheels and black chassis and red bodywork.

I just checked the catalogue from 1985/86 and it shows the "correct" diorama depiction of the old fire engine. But that's not queer as the V2 was released in 1986/87 according to the Collector.
Maybe it's a PLAYMOBIL mistake with the old one in the 1986 ???

What a great idea you had, LHAAP.
I found this 91'-92' Spanish catalogue in the Playmoclicks forum, here I pass you the link to the pdf: http://rapidshare.de/files/38858830/Cat_logo_1991-1992.pdf.html

These old Playmos may be simpler and less detailed, but for some of us that were kids in these times, there is a place in our hearts full of appreciation, nostalgia and love for them. :'(
