The pup looks promising, and I would like the klicky, if he didn't have diapers - yuck.

And an english link: Playmobil announces new Scooby-Doo deal (https://toyworldmag.co.uk/news/playmobil-announces-new-scooby-doo-deal/) - from  toyworldmag.co.uk

They did do a few Medieval torture prototypes back in the ´90s ...

Executioner special, knife throwing act with spinning wheel (imagine that one these days!), skeleton chained to dungeon and now the Frankenstein playset.

Back to topic now.

Today 70288 SCOOBY-DOO! Mystery Figures Series 1 was released in Germany. I know this is old news for the US Playmofriends, but here in Europe we were utterly excited – I was, at any rate. I looked forward to this day.

I was lucky and could pluck the entire range of 12 figures from an unblemished retail box, and am very happy with my new toys. The whole idea of scary figures that can be unmasked and pacified is quite appealing to young players, and the new parts are great for customizers. Still, let me start with a complaint.

It is about the "Ghost Diver", with the attractive head of the type first seen in the world of SUPER 4, seen on Dr. X, Sir Ulf and Grimmagus. I was looking forward to see it with a Figures-compatible neck, and was appalled that Geobra hadn't produced one: They just used the known SUPER 4 head, whilst supplying a grey Figures inlet! :omg:

I know that one can use regular heads with grey inlets, but it isn't easy to pull the head off again, especially with the lower part of the diving helmet in the way. And the head doesn't turn well, things are just too tight. But what bugs me most is that Geobra has been cutting corners, again: Clearly, it was considered too expensive to produce a new mould for this head with a new neck. I wish they wouldn't do that. :hmm:

Other than that I'm quite happy with the lot. Some great characters!

Best wishes
StJohn

Not surprising they didn't make a new mould, I suppose. I guess you are saying that you can assemble the figure, but you can't easily disassemble it again? A problem for the end-user, not the manufacturer then!

I too have been looking forward to this series appearing in Europe*. I hope to buy the full set online as I am not able to go out fondling bags at the moment...

* The UK may not be part of the EU for much longer, but some of us will always regard ourselves as Europeans!

That happened to me with one of the romans from the movie, remember?  Very odd..

Could be a stupid mistake - was it one, or all of them? How about the other people, were they all like that?

The "too expensive to produce a new mould" seems inaccurate, considering how many new parts are produced just so they are not compatible with existing ones... not to mention parts that you can't tell they are different unless you see them next to each other...

Could be a stupid mistake - was it one, or all of them?

I grabbed the four bags of the Ghost Diver that were on offer, but haven't opened the other three. Instead I'm now trying to offload them, insulting product that it is – it would have been so nice to have this head among the figures!  :hissyfit:  Haven't heard what other buyers found in their bags, hope to hear from you in due course.

How about the other people, were they all like that?

Or do you mean the other SCOOBY-DOO bags? No, all 11 others have smooth-necked figures heads, oddly/deliciously printed though. Will post some pics later.

Best wishes

No, I mean others of the same.. cause with that roman in the movie, only one of them had a non-figure head...

Where's JLMatterer? Didn't he get several?

Hi. What have I missed? Please explain the question to a rather obtuse me! I have dozens of the ghost figures, probably about 9 of the diver. 13 snow ghosts, about a dozen Pumpkinheads, 10 clowns.... I've learned to identify them easily in bag. Found 2 clowns yesterday.

To cut it short - do they all have figure heads?

Yes, please tell us the state of their necks!  :yup:

From what I gather, they all have regular, hard-to-disassemble necks. Play Planet at Klicky-Welt (https://klickywelt.de/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=71660&start=45#p1079073/) (login required) complained that his diver cannot be taken apart after assembly, and if you look at item 324160940359 under the finished listings at a respectable online auction house, you'll actually see a regular neck. I haven't yet seen the diver's head with a smooth figures-neck. :eh?:

i can't clarify what a figure head is, so I don't know what to say; but, I'll look at all the heads & take pics if needed. I have 9 of them.
Title: Re: Playmobil will make the sets dedicated to Scooby-Doo films
Post by: JLMatterer on May 11, 2020, 22:42:22
OK. I understand the difference now. The diver necks don't have the grooves cut out that the figure necks do. The diver heads are VERY hard for me to get off the figure just by pulling.

Yes, they are regular necks. Thanks for pointing that out to me; I learned something today. They are not impossible to disassemble, at least not every one. There are several that I can't take apart, and it's REALLY difficult to get off the ones that I can. They are also more difficult to put on than the other heads.

They're easy to find in the bag so I stopped buying them after getting 9.

Thank you, JLMatterer, for clarifying this. So now it is official; Geobra are willingly selling a toy that cannot be played with in the way that it is supposed to function. A true blemish to an otherwise fine product (70288).

To clarify: I didn't see it, just reporting what I was told.

Thanks. Point taken but I'm nevertheless sceptical until proof is forthcoming: normal heads have been seen in different countries and from different stores/batches; figures-style heads have once been reported (by your contact) but never been shown in a picture.

I'm curious to learn what you will discover in your bag(s), Tahra. Where will you be getting yours from?

Best wishes

Someone else asked what a figure head is... I have no idea if the guy that confirmed it actually knows... I'm almost ashamed to ask AGAIN.

This sort of head wouldn't be marked, since the hair gets in the way of that triangle mark, right? Of course, this is no excuse.

We'll, I really don't know what a figure head is; I just made a superficial look & saw the differences on the neck. What else am I missing?

Mine are normal heads too.  And the guy who posted a pic, same.

Asked the other who confirmed to post a pic as well, but my guess is he doesn't know what I mean.

I accidentally bought 2 more divers today - I thought they were Witch Doctors - Pfui. I actually bought them in order to snag the display case, which was nearly empty. I have 5 of the display boxes now; they're handy for organizing clickies. But, this gives me 11 divers. Pfui.

I would appreciate some photos in which some heads can be compared with others, and to be able to understand well the problem that there is to remove the heads from the figure.

Maybe I can find out why when we are making figures my son and I sometimes can't get the heads in, and sometimes the heads are too loose... This happens to us by mixing old pieces, modern pieces, etc. to make different customizations. The mixes my son makes are truly eclectic and fun.

I guess this takes time, so if anyone can do it, I reiterate my thanks.

Thanks for that, Tahra. This discussion was really crying out for photos!

So, Figures heads have an arrow on the back of the head, just below the notch. Is that the only difference?

I just checked eight different Series 17 Figures heads and they all have the arrow. Any reversible two-faced heads wouldn't have the arrow though. Not that reversible heads are very common.

The neck is different - THAT is the real difference - the triangle is just a "sign", does nothing.

You can see the figure head has the bottom part of the neck more "rounded", thinner, compared to the normal one..

Yes, a VERY LAME move.

I have no idea why these (and the movie ones) are figures, but that is an entirely different matter.
