The F?gures fairies come with closed wings. I'm trying to press one open. It looked great when I took it out from under the heavy box, but it started closing again. How long do I need to wait? Days? Weeks?

Maybe soak in heated water first, then put under a weight? I had some success with that method when trying to straighten out oak branches.

-
I tried steaming it. Not sure it helped.

I had success (which, months later, seems to be permanent) by:

 1.  Folding the wings as far as I could in the opposite direction, and securing them with a soft hair tie.
 2.  Putting them in very hot water for 20 minutes.  (I couldn't tell you what the temperature was; it wasn't boiling, but it was too hot to keep my hands in it for long.)  I covered the bowl, to try to keep the heat in.
 3.  Removing the hair tie and flattening the wings.
 4.  Putting them under a heavy stack of books for two weeks.

They were yellow wings.  Now I can't tell them apart from the non-Figures yellow wings.

I don't know if it worked but I store those fairies with the wings bent forward and secured with rubber bands. The folded wings are still useful for dioramas where a side on fairy can be seen with wings sticking backwards like a flutterby.

Thanks. I'll keep working at it. It's not for me; I'm trying to flatten the wings before gifting the fairy.

when I'm impatient, I'd heat bent playmo parts with a mini hair dryer......10 secs* .....and then longer and longer until it doesn't spring back to their original positions.
...if this suggestion pose a danger with kids reading it, kindly delete my this reply.... you!
(* so that they dont melt/deform)

 Dear children,
Don't try this at home.  ;)

Yes, you might do perm anent damage to the figure.  (http://www.animateit.net/data/media/august2009/th_hiding.gif)

Hmmm.  A year or so later, those 'permanently' flattened wings have folded back on themselves again.

Thanks for the update! Looks like we might need to store fairy wings under a brick.

				That is sooooo annoying!
