Speed restriction signs

Even for an engine driver it is important to know how fast you may go, and like car drivers, there are signs for. At British Rail these signs were in use until about the sixties:

Two or three steel digits, painted yellow on a steel pole.

It seemed to me a fun project to make such a sign myself, and it is a nice detail on a train layout. The digits are lasercut made from wood, and for sale at a hobby shop. These are glued to a wooden coffee spoon. The stick comes from a rocket, but probably I'll take Chinese chopsticks next time. These are sturdier than balsa wood. The foot is made of a wooden stirring patch for paint. The figures are painted  yellow, the whole is varnished. All in all a nice job to do at a dull moment.

Auch für einen Lokführer ist es wichtig zu wissen, wie schnell Sie gehen können, und wie Autofahrer gibt es Anzeichen dafür. Bei British Railways wurden diese Zeichen bis etwa dem sechziger Jahre benutzt:

Zwei oder drei Stahl Ziffern, gelb lackiert auf einem Stahlstab.

Ich dachte, das war schön, sich selbst zum basteln, und es ist ein schönes Detail auf jedem Modellbahn. Die Ziffern sind Lasercut von Holz und zum Verkauf bei einen Hobby Laden. Die Ziffern sind auf einem hölzernen Kaffeelöffel geklebt. Der Stick kommt von einer Rakete, aber wahrscheinlich nächstes Mal brauche ich chinesische Essstäbchen. Dies sind stabiler als Balsaholz. Der Fuß besteht aus einem Holzspachtel. Die Ziffern sind gelb gestrichen, das ganze ist lackiert. Alles in allem eine großartige Arbeit zu machen.

Those are really nice... and will add a great deal of realism to a dio, I think :D

Those older trains were a lot more interesting to look at, good work.

Other variations are also possible  ;)
Each coloured item is made separate from wood, painted in the correct colour and glued together. If you are very good with painting, you could do it directly on one piece of wood.
