Somehow I missed this until just now. A mad fellow has recreated the Battle of Zama (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Zama), the 202 B.C. engagement in which Scipio Africanus came up with a tactic to neutralize the elephant threat (Basie10 are you listening) and handed Hannibal to him. The dio creator used ...
26,000
klickies to make the contending armies. Video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrtd3iFsH1E), Mirror article (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/more-26000-playmobil-figures-set-7602698), hires imgur gallery (http://imgur.com/gallery/QpsV7), and you can also just google "playmobil zama" (https://www.google.com/search?q=playmobil+zama&oq=playmobil+z&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i61j0j69i57j0l2.1887j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) for many many more informationses. Seeing as it was a French effort there are probably even better sources in that language.
I agree with the video commentator, it's fairly ahistorical, but by Jove it looks grand!

Wow - some serious work went into that! And some serious cash. Who can even afford to do this? ???
-
I know right? The elephants alone must've cost gigafrancs.
-
And here I was happy about my "large" amount of roman soldiers. I have 24, which is a lot more than I have of any other soldier.

He's repainted the javelins incorrectly, which is a little disappointing.
and handed Hannibal to him.
There was a word referring to an animal in here. Now that it's been taken out this phrase makes no sense.

Why was your post edited? Punic wars still too sensitive to discuss? ;)

Yes, he needs to paint the wooden blocks that hold the rivets but given the complete fantasy of the Carthaginian army, it's not much of an oversight. The scale itself is impressive and just painting the javelin shafts must have taken a lot of time.
A pity the diorama didn't show the two opposing sides pressing against each other, just a small skirmish at one point in the line. I hope he does something more dynamic because it would be a shame to have such a large resource not used to show off some tactics of the era.

Perhaps Punic is too hairy!

hmm no comment ;D
But yes, I agree with Klickteryx - we need to see a bit of welly. Surely the next step is for some of those klickies to get stuck in ???

Welly? Is this more Kiwiese? Please enlighten me!

You know, a bit of welly - a bit of the welly boot (wellington boot).... ::) :P

;D

The scale is amazing! No, it's not very historically accurate, but very impressive, nonetheless. Now whenever my wife tells me I have too many klickies, I can remind her of this. :)

"See honey? It could be A LOT WORSE!"
-
That argument never works :(... ;D

When my husband's impressed with big dioramas like that, he actually urges me on to do some more 'collecting' ;D
