This is how the photo was created.
The back drop was an A4 size piece of thin craft foam used because it was water resistant
Then many different types of short ladders were trialed before settling on the camper van ladders as even with an Elf standing on them they stand up unsupported.
Boiled water was used to make the ice clearer then divided with half the water given a dash of blue food coloring see half defrosted Sant on the left of the first photo.
Blue tack was put on the Santa’s backs so they would remain in the centre during freezing. Then in the spirit of using playmobil as much as possible the Santa’s were frozen using the inner trey of a carry case which turned out to be a mistake as once frozen they wouldn’t come out of the trey so a hairdryer was used to warm the back of the case and hit against the work surface until finally they came out but cracking the trey in the process.
Finally a small novelty toffee hammer was used to knock some of ice off and then Santa was photographed quickly before his ice melted.
The concept came first with the idea of how Santa might have lasted so long without getting any older, however then all the picture titles came out as sentences or explanations and the title only came when I gave up on the idea of an everlasting Santa.

Whoops! apologies I meant to put this topic in the Photography & Graphics section not the monthly photo contest bit.

I moved it for you. Very interesting to see all that went in to making this!
-
Marvellous! Sorry to hear about the cracked trey, but hey, it was sacrified in the name of art 8-)
I was wondering how you managed to have Santa in the middle of the ice without sinking to the bottom - great idea.
And nice to know the original story behind the photo, so thanks a lot for sharing this!

It is so interesting how you did it! Thank you for sharing.
I've been trying to spot all the differences in those photos. I've found six of them, but can't find the last two!

Interesting to see how frozen Santa was made, I've managed 7 out of 8 on the spot the difference can't for the life of me spot the last one though :eh?:

I've got 7... Are you sure there are 8 differences?!? Lol
-
I got 8, but the last 2 were really hard to find! ;) (Smug grin)
Clue: increase the size of the pictures!
