Title: 6811 gamekeeper's house
Post by: Birdie on January 03, 2016, 17:36:58
I hadn't planned on buying this set, 'cause it's only a front wall for a house and I don't want to encourage that. But when I was in the toy store my newborn started crying her head off after 5 minutes, so I had to make some *snap* decisions and I ended up grabbing this set too. Mainly because there are too many interesting new parts to order separately from DS:

- pheasant
- new mushrooms (brownish)
- large tree with bird house and swing
- pretty front of the house

I'm glad I bought it, 'cause it looks quite good all together. So thank you, hysterical baby girl  :-*

The gameskeeper looks nice in his uniform, but I don't like the woman (her hair, her shirt) and the boy is a repeat

New mushrooms!

What do you think about this set? I paid €52,95 for it. An entire house would have been more expensive, I reckon.

:lmao: :lmao:

I like the woman (hair excepted), without coat or longsleeves (I think her shirt looks xmasy)... The guy's hair is.. well... THAT hair, but he's nice. The boy is indeed known, and that hair sculpt is hedious (for both boys or girls)..

I like the new single mushrooms... And that bird house (and the tree).. The chimney is ADORABLE, but part of the stupid system WHY house, so... not a question.

The pheasant is a must have!

Thanks for the review :)

Well it comes in a separate piece, but it can't stand on its own because of a protruding bit at the bottom (which clicks into the frame of the house). I was thinking I could maybe convert the house into something that would fit in a Roman type village, with brown instead of green parts. Seeing the thing up close, I don't think it's a possibility.

It is?! I got the idea it was part of the bulk of the house!

Don't do this to me! (and my wallet!)

Oh, ok then.  :P

The house looks quite nice, and that pheasant is great too! That swing on the tree is a nice new touch as well.

Great little set though the house could have been a bit more complete at the sides.

Hmmm, the pheasant sounded interesting, but it's nothing colours are like any of the pheasants I've seen in our garden!

I ordered the nestbox and swing-branch from Parts.  The nestbox is lovely (and can fit on any tree part) and the swing-branch will be very useful - but it seems to be a different colour to my other trees:

I thought about purchasing the pheasant (which looks near-enough in colours to me!) too, but it was a bit expensive at €2,60, so that has been added to the maybe-next-time list.  I never even noticed the mushrooms - and I love Playmobil mushrooms!

I think that the house front would look good with a forest surround.  From the back, though, it is more like a walker's hut than a forest ranger's/gamekeeper's living accommodation.  And what someone who is apparently looking after the forest and the forest animals is doing with a deer skull as decoration, I don't know!  Though it is a very nice deer skull.

I'm thinking of doing the same for the nestbox... And the pheasant.

Thanks for the review!

Yuck!  Those hairstyles are DREADFUL!  And it's a shame that the boy is a repeat...

Realistic colors or not, the pheasant is a must have for me.  I can't wait for this to come out here in the US... I've got a need for that house :D

Well I would have guessed the neck-and-head was more dark green than blue, but aparently it depends on the light:

True, on both counts. In this 'house' there's not even enough room to put a bed in the upstairs part.
Taking care of baby deer while using granddaddy's head for decoration, it is a bit odd now you mention it

I think it is a very nice set with very nice new items. But I don't get over the disappointment of the house only being a wall... The Alpine hut was about 50 euro with a lot of furniture and a whole house.

still you can be thankfull to your little girl for such a nice purchase.

Pheasants have an iridescent which means that the colour of some of their feathers vary depending on the light, but having said that, those feathers are normally seen as a particular colour, e.g. green round the neck, and the iridescence is something noticeable more close-up  Here's a picture of a pheasant taken from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds website:

Hmmmm... Is it another bird then, maybe? Or did the design team make a mistake?

There are dozens of different species and subspecies of pheasants, as well as naturally occurring hybrids. Kind of like doves. Actually I'm not sure what type of pheasant would share territory with great blue heron.

We have both around here, though pheasants are becoming a lot more scarce

We don't have any pheasants this far south. Do the ones up there look like this?

This is the pheasant I'm familiar with as we had one that came to the door to be fed for four years, would an answer to a whistle and tap on the window if there was no food out or there wasn't enough food.

It depends on the lighting in which you see them.  A lot of times they look more green, but if the light is hitting them just right they do look blue as well.  They have gorgeous feathers (which is why they were hunted to near extinction at one point)

We have pheasant (introduced) and great blue heron here, so it's possible. The heron in the other set is a European variety though, the grey heron (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_heron)

Ok, that makes more sense, because the new deer looks like a fallow deer  to me, which is European. And I suppose what I consider to be an elk could be a European red deer which is almost identical. I was puzzled by the seeming mix of animals from different continents.

But that is my point - "A lot of times they look more green but if the light is hitting them just right they do look blue as well" , green is the more usual colour for the neck so it should be green.

I agree that it should have been green, but we know Playmobil doesn't like to go with the realistic colors of a lot of animals (snakes, reindeer, new alligators, etc)

I just realised this is a very grim theme.

I mean there's the bambi set, and a set with a forestman who has a deer's head decorating his house. That vile fiend seems likely to be the hunter who shot Bambi's mom.  :0
Sure he fakes an innocent smile and lives there with his family, but in the meanwhile..  ;)

Naah he just takes care of the forest. That deer's head was probably from an old one that died of natural causes  8-)

It's nothing like that one set from the nineties with a hunter, a gun and a hunting cabin surrounded by little forest critters  ;D

I actually think they have done a pretty good job of being ambiguous with the various forest sets the last few years. They do the same with the Africa sets too. Are those guys in the boat with the otters some sort of poachers, or are they from the animal rescue squad there to release healed otters into the wild? All up to the kids, as it should be.

Well as kids we always send the knights hunting in the forest. Usually with humiliating results like returning with just a rabbit, a small bird or even a fish and rarely with a deer, a boar or anything worth bragging about. Pretty sure one even returned with his own dog after it kept annoying him and actually preventing him from catching anything good instead of helping. We already had a bit of dark humor as children, though neither me or my sister ever had a fondness for animals. Nothing against them either, more indifferent I suppose.
