6695 Royal Tribune with Alex
Alex, King Kenric and Sir Gareth...

This set fell a bit short, maybe because we had high expectations for it.
Initially we planned to buy two of these - Alex looked great, and the tribune too.. The other klickys are gorgeous as well. But we had a change of heart at the last moment, and thank the gods we only got one.
Thanks to the link posted by scan to my request, I found out the darn head on Alex is also different. I ASSUME it is the same as Ruby, but have no idea. Really good we only got one.
But there was still one important point. I wanted Alex's belt BADLY the moment I layed eyes on it!
And I think it'll do. Not perfect, and that ridiculous loop in the back is really REALLY silly, but...

Anyways, the set..

Like I said, there's Alex, his father King Kenric, and Sir Gareth... plus sir Gareth's horsie and a mouse... A mouse!? I have no idea if this relates to the show. SOMEONE doesn't want my money for it :(
Let's get the main issue out of the way. Here's the tribune:

The back part is on rocks...
Does it look flimsy to you? That's because it IS. While the platform is nice (even if it is system WHY), and the rail is gorgeous (though hard as Tartarus to fit), the upper part feels and looks cheap. Like some trinket. Really doesn't feel like playmobil. And that is a real shame.
The lack of a supporting pole or something on the curtains doesn't help the overall look :(
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/6695j.jpg)
And for SOME reason, there's a treasure hidey hole UNDER the throne. Unless that is series accurate, seems silly to me...
Speaking of throne and treasure..
Throne is uncommon (does it exist?) in blue - very nice :)
The lump of treasure is not nice... Though I suppose it is an easy way to make a pile of it, it is quite a lot less useful than separate pieces. It also has some pegs for odd colored gems, which are of course welcome. These are the same as the ones used in the scepters, I believe.
The lamp on the pillow looks good... as long as you don't remove it!

And here's the horsy, again the previous version, with very nice barding, and said mouse.

The klickys - all gorgeous!

Ok, so Alex's potential for customs is ZERO at the moment. A real shame. The shoulder armor is molded on the arm, and with the silly concept of left+right arms, we couldn't do anything even if we had 10 of him. From the pics of the popped Alex I saw, those really look like male speedo arms (what a STUPID STUPID idea - no, I'm not over it). Head is also useless, apparently. I sincerely hope it remains that way.
That said, I think he is very very pretty. I like the faces, like I said before.
The king... The klicky is the same I had for some time. I thought the boots were mistaken then, cause he appears to have no printing on the boots on playmobil's site. But I guess they changed their minds? Cause this one was out of the box. No problem at all tough.
The hair is new... I do wish the mustache was a part of the beard, instead of printed.
The crown is beautiful, and so is that roman cloak. Actually, I could use a bunch of those. Matches the uncommon color of the boots on a bunch of medieval legs I got :-[
Sir Gareth... He looks great too - though I think with those huge shoulder things, he looks like he is missing a neckpiece. Will have to look into that.. Something not radical, a removable one... Have no idea if I can manage something.
Like Rypan, all geared up with a lance, he looks like he forgot his helmet.

Yes, that scabbard IS ridiculously large.
More details - see the lovely designs on the cloak?

Now, they make a new body type.. What for?!
He's not THAT different. We can't do anything with him. What do we gain? Nothing. A real real shame Alex is not a "normal" klicky. Then it would probably be worth to get a couple of these sets, even with that flimsy tribune top.
The sword extends (and that wristthing is somewhat lose :-[ )
Thunder...
THUNDER!

A real shame they didn't attach the scabbard some other way. In a way that could be removed, and enabled Alex to sit properly on the Chameleon.
His head, though compatible with the normal hair..

Is kinda flattened on the sides:

Fortunately, though he does have the pinkish cheeks on the series, they didn't go for that look in the klicky:

(the end... )

nice review, thanks.
zero interest in these ... again, too much plastic. i think the knight would look good with one of those 'clown' ruffs around his neck, and the king could be saved with an old style moustachy beard. but all in all, the klickies arent that bad. we"ve seen much worse recently!
-
thanks for your very detailed review and photography...they are like almost in my hands....only even larger ;)
i've commented on the flat sides on the head before...I wonder why the change....that hair piece will have to conform too....why why why...
-
Gorgeous pictures. Your comments are very valuable.
Too bad the tribune isn't as solid as I had hoped for. Still it is a great set with possibilities.
I understand your frustration about the different bodytype. But I hope you still enjoy the klickies themselves.
-
I like this set very much!!! Maybe it is the most interesting set of the Super 4 series, at least for me!
Thanks for the great review!!
George. :)

I think I missed your comment.. or just don't remember (old age!).. I wonder if the idea is to make the head appear "smaller" - cause the hairs do fit in normal heads, and vice versa. That super 4 hair (Alex's) is very very... how do I say this.. it kinda hugs the head closely. So I'm wondering if it makes a difference, making it look somehow "thinner"..

The set is very nice, yes, and the klickys are gorgeous! It's just.. the value would be MUCH higher if Alex was a regular klicky, and the top of the tribune would not be so flimsy (and with no visible support!). We do have the old joust viewing stand (still figuring if we should keep another), and this is very poor in comparison.

That was my initial opinion too... Now, not so sure.. I have a(n odd) soft spot for the Chameleon.. (next up for review, when I manage)

Disappointing that the pavilion part appears to be a variant of a magic carpet. The Cloth just hangs magically in the air above the stage.
I thought the new gold was the shiny stuff that came with several sets including the fi?ures. I wonder why they've gone with this non-shiny colour for their recent sets like this one and the one with the pirate's treasure?

Yes, very... Feels flimsy, doesn't look good.. A real shame.

I don't really have a problem with the color.. variety and all. It's the molded lump that's not so good, imo..
-
Different tastes I guess, I really like the moulded pile of treasure, just wished it was the shiny gold. If I get one of the sets with it in it I'm spray painting the treasure with metallic brass paint.

Thanks for the nice review and the pictures. I had big hopes for this set seeing as the old version is becoming rare and expensive. Playmobil should stick to making modern sets with these new techniques and just re-release old sets with these new klickies
-
I know this is a very old topic but I wanted to say that I had been VERY keen to get the tribune (the klicky's, not so much - too, too different) and your review has settled me not to. Its very disappointing that it is so flimsy as I like the style.

:( We had initially considered gettig two of them.. thank the gods we didn't.

I actually love the tribune! I grabbed it the first chance I could (something I don't do too often), initially with the plan of leaving off the canopy. After assembling it, I changed my mind and kept the canopy on. I too wish the canopy stands had been sturdier looking, but it is such a small detail after you've loaded up some furniture and klickies!
I'm far more bothered by the flimsy posts of the newest canopy bed, and grateful Playmobil did not try that with this set. My castle could definitely use a second tribune, though i don't know where it would go.
