Title: Lucky Playmobil Day
Post by: JLMatterer on August 10, 2015, 00:57:49
I started collecting Playmobil just when Fi?ures 7 was about dried up in my area. I managed to get the archer, scuba diver, & skateboarder from the Boys, but that was it. Today I went to the TRU in Monaca, Pennsylvania, & after rummaging through the Boys Fi?ures 8, discovered nine Series 7 at the very bottom of the stack; they hadn't been there previously, so when the storage rack was refilled, someone must've thrown the last of the store's 7s in first. The sign there said the BOGO 40% off was still happening, so I grabbed all 9. Turns out the sale WASN'T still on, bit since the signs were still up & I asked, I got the the sale price, all clickies at $1.79 each. A good luck day! I got 2 archers (always needed), 2 mafiosa (new for me), a King Neptune (YES!!! New for me & highly desired), a spaceman (new for me) a scuba diver (meh) & 2 skateboarders (BOO!!!) Getting King Neptune was cause for celebration, so I'm happy with the whole outcome. All I want now from Series 7 Boys is the King. (@Tiermann, am sending you MO for him tomorrow :) )

Always fun to unexpectedly find something you wanted - and on sale!  :)

I so love that Neptune figure. Can't understand why they're not rushing out the rest of the pantheon!

Don't understand why they gave that archer an Egyptian dagger instead of the cross hilted medieval dagger.

Great catch :)

I really like the upper half of the skaters, as usual  :P

I still can't believe they ruined him  >:(

Okay I'll bite: how did they ruin him, tahra?

Those HIDEOUS legs! He has such a PERFECT beautiful merman color, and instead of a PERFECT beautiful tail, they gave him.. bare feet. GAH. One of our biggest disappointments EVER, I think.

(please note that 99.99% of mertails are pink or blue.. there is like ONE set with a black one, right?)

Yeah but Neptune the god had regular people feet. So if they were going for Neptune, they got him right.

He did? Not sure on that...  :P
(besides, I am not fond of barefeet in klickys ever since they appeared)

Yes he did:

The few tailed images appear to be modern interpretations:

I agree the Greek God Posseidon was portrayed as a muscled, legged man  ;D
But the combo of pants, bare feet and green scales all over his body is beyond weird.

Still not convinced.

Ok, he only appears from the wasit up. Darn. link (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dF3VTOcbuo)  :-\

But even if no tail, at least, no pants!

I love it when that happens! Sometimes just a polite request can open all sorts of doors (or a jobsworth store assistant on minimum wage and minimum degree of 'can be bothered to challenge the customer' perhaps?).

This was a great find. I can just imagine you upside-down in the Figures bin, legs waving in the air as you did a deep dive in search of What Lurks At the Bottom. I spend my whole life wandering the back streets of small obscure towns searching for forgotten toyshops with dusty Playmobil stock from the 1980s....

That vid has been blocked in my country. BUT! Even if Neptune had no pants, you must know that PM doesn't do nudity! I mean, you can't expect them to show everything...

It was an unexpectedly good afternoon, as I didn't think I'd even be getting out of the house, let alone driving to Pennsylvania. King Neptune made my day, most certainly. As for his feet, I wonder if PM could ever come up with webbed feet or hands?  8} Speaking of which, I'd love to see clickies for Greek, Roman, & Egyptian mythology.

SERIOUSLY!? By the Gods. It's just the intro to Xena: Warrior Princess. MORONS.

I didn't expect nudity, but to give him ragged scaly pants is ridiculous, as it was pointed out... I still think he'd be MUCH better with a mertail (and I STILL think Poseidon has a mertail!), if not give him naked legs with a loincloth-like thingie...

Speaking of which, I'd love to see clickies for Greek, Roman, & Egyptian mythology.

YES, you and many many many others...

Tahra, I'm surprised you didn't catch the most egregious error on that Neptune: his crown has crosses on it. Rather inappropriate for a god who antedated Christ by millennia.

Dunno about that.. probably they took his!  :P

(I blame Salmoneus... after all, he named the Olympic Games (besides coming up with the symbol), came up with wristwatches (SUNNEX), and Gods know what else.. )
