Title: Three Super 4 Figures
Post by: GrahamB on August 02, 2015, 22:29:51
I bought these three figures from a Maltese ebay seller. Playmobil have already issued promotional pictures of the Super 4 sets and these look very much like 3 of the 21 figures in those pictures. The Super 4 sets are due to be released later this year.

I speculated on the number of klickies in the Super 4 sets and their hair and beard styles here (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=14618.0)

The three figures I have: Dr.X, Pirate with Cannon Arm and Sharkbeard.

Here are details of each figure.
Dr. X
(http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a621/GrahamB2013/3_zpsxpj4aiy9.jpg)(http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a621/GrahamB2013/4_zpsae0gxklq.jpg)(http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a621/GrahamB2013/5_zpszy9img2w.jpg)

The face is printed, with a lopsided mouth and a monacle over the left eye. The collar, torso and legs have light blue trim. The arms I have are plain white. Torso printing is interesting with trim aound left armhole and not right. The BEST BIT...

(that is not a set of dentures, but the underside of the hairpiece!)

The hair is removable but leaves Dr.X with only half a brain! Sorry cheng, not really a bald-headed klicky! The hair piece slides in and out of the slot at the back of the head quite easily. The slot in the head is narrower on the right to act as a clip which the hairpiece snaps into. I wonder if they will make other colours?

The other parts of Dr. X seem standard. Internal skeleton shown front and back, for those aficionados of such things!

Pirate Guy (I don't know if he has a name in the TV series)

All standard parts, including the hair and beard. Torso printing includes a brown patch below the right arm (which is brown) but no printing below the left arm (which is white).

That left arm is weird, ending as a cannon. The cannon part is not removable, it doesn't twist, it has no firing mechanism and the hole in the end looks hexagonal:

It isn't clear to me if anything fits in the end, or if this is like that similar case of Pooh Bear Got His Head (hand) Stuck In The Honey Jar (cannon thing) And Could Not Get It Off.

Sharkbeard

(http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a621/GrahamB2013/17_zpsv2tuuwto.jpg)(http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a621/GrahamB2013/18_zpsw17igbwq.jpg) (http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a621/GrahamB2013/19_zpsag2uszlw.jpg)(http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a621/GrahamB2013/20_zpsehm90jms.jpg)

All fairly standard parts again, with a fat torso and legs. The new hair is like an Afro with space for a hat and the beard resembles a shark's tooth. I like both.

Now the weirdest part, the biomechanical telescopic eyeball!

Seen from above with the hair removed:

The telescope thing is quite easy to slide in and out and has little flanges to make it difficult to remove altogether (though if you did, Sharkbeard could at least promise he will 'keep an eye out for you'!)

All in all three nice figures with some interesting, if rather weird, new features.

Thanks for the close look!

Yeah all three have something different about them. I never would have thought the grey hair came off and left a hole!  The cannon arm is ...odd, but I guess that's how it is in the show.  The telescope eye is kinda cool!

The telescopic eye clearly adumbrates a steampunk theme.

OMG!
Hans Beck must be rolling in his grave ...  8}
What are they doing to our beloved Playmobil?
Where are our Klickys that with just a few clicks could be a fireman, or a cowboy, or a knight?
Guess those "simple days" are gone forever ...  :'(

Thanks for the review of the weird new klickies

The playmo system is being phased out for marketing gimmicks

Thanks for your very clear review, GrahamB!!

From cost n mould maintanance point of view, I think they should replace the head of their design team.....how often can they reuse that head with eye hole??? Maybe the head with the back brain lobes missing can be reused but that's nothing compared to a more common head mould....however, if their Financial Controller takes over, we might not see any new parts....so I'm complaining and yet not complaining  :'(

Geobra, make a half-shaven samurai head....since u "throw away" moulds like these everyday....but GrahamB, I like challenges, I'll try to make a samurai out of this mentally challenged professor but his monocle again makes him too unique

Thank you so much for the detailed pics :)   I am expecting a couple of super 4 klickys too, but they should take a while, and nothing that new - just one of the molded hairs...

I am VERY surprised (in a good way) that the hair is removable.

And I had no idea Sharkbeard is a fat guy...

Still no new bodies around...

This just is not playmobil, I've no intention on getting any of it. Seems pretty much just some knock off of playmobil, sadly its made by the same company.

To be fair, I have nothing against 'pirate guy' (the middle one) - except for his weird santa boots.

These are definitely some interesting pieces. I agree that the traditional figures are much better, but I don't think we'll have to worry about them going away soon.

I tried imagining Dr.X and the telescopic guy with "normal" playmo eyes....can you? And then, do you think it loses any attractiveness to kids? (You can use your pc editors to do it if its not easy to visualize this change)
IMO, they do look more attractive with these cartoon eyes.....I think these eyes will be more and more popular even tho our brains are accustomed to accepting only the regular dots.

If we just saw regular klikies for the first time in today's world...I'm sure many of us might have balked at those having 2 dots for eyes and redirect our kids to "better" super 4 toys with more acceptable eyes...assuming they both have same qualities and packaging.....your opinions please?

No, I feel the dots and usual smile have a certain charm to them, an unmatched innocence. They just look so happy and cheerfull, eager to take on whatever role they are assigned wether its as the hero, the villain or just someone standing in the back.

I feel the same way about the original lego faces by the way, Lego is not Lego anymore since they stopped making the normal faces.

Well, the cannon-arm can make a difference in short-range combat.... extra firepower on deck  ;D

The fat guy with brown longcoat got a standard arm. I cleaned off the brown-painted armhole with a gum, so the left and right sides of the figure look indentical. I painted a kind of necktie on him, and gave both klickies a beltsash made from pvc-stickers.

I find the brown longcoat very useful for non-military officers (merchant fleet), nobility, pirates etc.
Here is another custom figure using that longcoat, a merchant captain. His torso comes from another pirate from the Super-4 sets.

BROWNCOAT. Must. Have.

(and I want two of those cannon arms too! )

Great looking customs :)

That browncoat does look nice, but I feel very sorry for the pirate with two cannon arms.

I mean he cant reload his own hands, someone else needs to do that. Also needs help everytime he wants to get dressed, has to pee, wants to eat, etc.
Does the fellow realise he could have just wielded two pistols?  :P

Interesting to see some close ups of these figures got to admit I wasn't really convinced when I first saw them still not sure I'm won over but, these ones don't seem to bad provided they don't start creeping these sorts of figures and cartoon faces into regular themes. Dr X's head piece is interesting and rather weird with the slot for his spiky hair in the back I suppose it solves the empty head problem  :P Sharkbeards hair and beard's also quite cool and his outfit's not bad the other Pirates coat is great and clearly very useful for useful for customising as demonstrated.

The special features are interesting  and I can see them working well to attract kids which will probably be their main target market as I said above I don't have a problem with certainly these figures provided it doesn't spill over into other themes which is probably unlikely for the special features at least.

 Aw poor guy must be feeling invincible, all the firepower in the world then back down to earth can't use it without assistance  :'( still it's the sort of thign you think would be really cool as a kid having cannons for arms

I feel very sorry for the pirate with two cannon arms.

A falling topmast crushed both his arms...  Unfortunately for the pirate Dr. Migmund´s Krankenstein Institution was the nearest medical centre.  ;D

Fairies hair is supposed to be molded... So I think that kinda answers the double face possibility.

I really want to get my hands on those (silly?) new bodies..

Got the molded hair knight... Not bad, except for having a painted face. With the printing quality being what we know, potential for disaster is.. well.. high.

His body is the same (and a GORGEOUS torso), and he pops the same - just the hair is part of the head. Details later on the usual place, if I EVER catch up :-[
