Title: Pipes in sets 4105 and 7505
Post by: VicKlicktor on July 26, 2015, 02:05:51
Hello everybody,

I just found a French site where three colors for pipes are shown. I don’t know if the far left pipes have yellowed a little bit or they are really in a variation of gray.

I was not sure the brown pipes really existed until I saw the photo above. I always saw in ebay sets 4105 with gray pipes (Even the "Datenbank" at Klickywelt)

I have set 4105 with light gray pipes but we know the box shows brown ones. My set was pre-owned, that means the seller put add-on 7505 in the original box?

Hmmm..very good question. I've seen slight variances in colors such as the Western Cavalry showing the sword to be shiny on the box when the actual contents were a dull grey. I think this might have happened here.  ??? Do the inside of the pipes have a different color than the outside? If so, they are probably discolored.

This was such a great addition to the train theme. It has so many great uses beyond a pipe wagon. Sure wish geobra would slowly rerelease them all as they did with the red liquid wagon.

Thanks, but what about the two versions in gray? No doubt about pipes in brown were released in early versions from 1980 and gray ones in add-on 7505 later. The real question is whether a different gray tone was released in late versions of 4105…

I don't think there are two different tones of gray on the picture. The first wagon catches the light, the second is a little more away from the lightsource. If the light is from a normal lamp, the light is a bit yellow, and that will give on a photographic picture the impression of another color of gray.

It is not me who says that, check the original post and other photos of the owner (page 393):

Than it must be discoloration due to exposure to the sun. A problem I also have with older Playmobil wagons, specially when they did run outside the house.

There were only 2 colors of pipes:
grey (the »weathered« version is no extra color, it's yellowed by the sun) and brown.

As Ras says, this wagon and the variants of it are very useful general purpose rail wagons.  I have sox or so in various forms.

I could not look inside the pipes before because the pipes shown in first photo of this thread were not mine. I only had the lighter gray ones but I got the other two variants recently. Now, with the evidence I can confirm that there were three colors of pipes in set 4105: brown, lighter gray and gray.

No yellowed, no discoloration. They are just two different tones of gray.

In real life the difference is quite obvious. It is like make a comparison of some Playmo dolphins or sharks that do have variants in gray.

Actually, there are three box versions in Playmobil Collector's Guide 1974-2009 , 3rd edition. I wanted to make a correlation between the boxes and the pipe colors but I got a 4th box version not shown in the guide. See below. So, I just can say that two different tones of gray did exist.

Maybe we just ought to keep searching so we might find the missing 48 tones accomplishing 50 shades of grey...  8-).

I just wish they would rerelease the wagon in the future. It's not easy or affordable in the states  :'( with all the stuff I have I do not think I have one of these. I stopped buying for now but it would be nice to inject more stock into the markets so I could perhaps buy some used someday  :crossed:
