NHL Makes Marketing Pact With Toy Company PLAYMOBIL
The National Hockey League just wrapped up a couple of Game 7 Conference Finals match-ups and is set to start the Stanley Cup Final on June 3. However, the NHL is wasting no time in between. Today, the league announces a brand new multi-year licensing deal with PLAYMOBIL, Germany’s largest toy manufacturer with subsidiaries in the U.S. and Canada. PLAYMOBIL distributes its toys in more than 100 countries.

PM used not to do licensing. I guess that policy is over.
I predict Star Wars Playmobil within seven years.

If they go that way, I hope they pick something nicer... :P

Nothing again in the PCC :-/
My point exactly.
-
Oh I'm excited about this! :D
As a Canadian who has benefited from group orders from Europe, I guess this would be my time to step up and do it if no one else is planning to!
-
Well then! That's kind of cool! It will open a lot of doors for other items if they start licensing. Could produce a ton more exposure in the US and Canada.
-
Who will do the group order? :P
And I will gladly help out anyone if I can.

This link has some additional pictures. Looks like some of the figures will have bent knees and elbows. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to insert a picture here.

Thank you very much for the news Tahra. Very weird indeed for the pcc not to be disclosing this first? Looks great and is,a step up from the partnerships of the past such as the wild life foundation sets. The older soccer theme was county generic but this looks like real teams, I don't watch hockey so I am not sure?
Next geobra need building partnerships
-
I do hope they do our local San Jose Sharks team.

Thanks for the extra link :)
As to the deformed klickys, those we knew about - the new ice hockey sets have them :( I hate it, just like the tumors on the football players.

Well.. I wouldn't say WEIRD. I mean... it's is not the first, second.... time it happens right? It SHOULDN'T. But it's a recurring thing.

I believe these are real teams. We have no ice hockey (predictably), but I do enjoy the bits I see (in movies and such :-[ ). I REALLY REALLY like the hockey theme (except the deformed klickys)... my sister keeps telling me we don't need those....
Now, someone enlighten me... NHL - doesn't that stand for NATIONAL Hockey League? But then we saw names of towns in the teams. Both american and canadian.. so... what gives?! 8}
-
NHL has teams in both Canada and the USA (most teams are USA actually)
As for the local teams, looks like they are starting with the original 6 teams and expanding from there.
The most important part of the announcement was, IMO that they have contracted for them to be sold by Toys R Us, Amazon.com, Walmart, and Target.... this is a great opportunity for the brand to get out there.
The big question now is will NFL, MLB, NBA, MLS, and NASCAR Playmobil sets soon follow? I don't think we can expect movie licenses any time soon, but we might get corporate licenses
-McDonald's restaurant (they are trying to rebuild their image)
-shipping companies USPS, Fedex, and UPS (delivering Playmobil of course)
-store employee set for TRU, Target, and Walmart
-gas stations
-Tesla
:munch: Just have to wait and see I guess.
-
Yes, geobra already did those in Europe, so these partnerships are not really new. There was the DHL van, and the individual klickies with corporate logos, the shell train car....etc....

Yup, and I love those sets... I do think that "real life" advertising licenses are more cost effective for the toy company than movie licenses.

The best would be a FIFA series  lots of room for imaginative play
-
:lmao:
-
I actually really like the generic logos they used for the sets in the 2015 German Catalog, but it makes total sense for them to do an NHL license on these so they will be more popular in the North American markets. It greatly increases the chances of their making back their molds investment I would think.
-
I agree that it increases the sales reach of the sets. And Playmobil exposure as well.

Each figure would come with stacks of euros.

Each figure would come with stacks of euros.
The players get the loose coins, while the bosses get the bills
And if a NFL series were to be introduced they too would have truck loads of green backs plus truck loads of steroids :P. Oh but that is called lobbying in the US and corruption in the EU ::)

Now you forgot that the Tom Brady likeness would need to come with multiple hair styles and a way to deflate the football (this coming from a Patriots fan) :-X

The CBI (Collectors´ Bureau of Investigation) will exercise their veto in such case. ;)

hmm never realy realised this, but indeed did Playmobil use other companies before.
Was looking through the farming section and found this Claas combine (5006) (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5006)

Yes and some of the old racing cars have Blaupunkt and other marks, plus of course the Esso and Shell gas stations. Not unheard of. Licensing with a company or sports league is different than with a media property like a movie though. I think their concern has always been about making potentially short term properties pay off.
It will be interesting to see what happens now that HOB is gone. With things like Star Wars now part of Disney and something like 38 years old and still going strong it would seem worth a look as a possible safe thing to license.
They missed the timing on a dino theme though, should have been a new one this year to go along with the new Jurrassic movie.

Isn't that one the "normal" one? With the ice hockey theme, I mean?
-
Yes, the regular unlicensed version was announced in February with the rest of the releases.
-
:-[ :-[ oh missed that i guess...
-
Huh? Bent elbows n knees finally? When can we order them? :)
-
Are their beards to go on the players?
-
Here are the NHL sets! They're all on the US site. But not on playmobil.ca, even though two of the teams are Canadian - not very smart if you ask me.
PlaymoDB List - NHL Hockey Sets 2015 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=5068,5069,5070,5071,5072,5073,5074,5075,5076,5077,5078,5079,5081,5082,5083,5084;title=NHL%20Hockey%20Sets%202015)
A lot of the figures are here: Page 39 of Klicky/Adult male category (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/category.pl?sortby=partnum;page=39;category=Klicky-Adult+male;pics=on). They're not assigned into sets yet, though. I assume the standing ones are the goalies and those with bent knees and elbows, the other players.
-
Oh the wee Stanley Cup is *adorable*!
-
I will admit to being a big hockey fan, so perhaps I'm biased, although I think that both the licensed and non-licensed iterations of the theme look great. Considering that Playmobil has only done some small licensing projects in the past and upon numerous occasions stated that they are opposed to prolific licensing (unlike Lego, that's for sure) I can't imagine that they will attach themselves to bigger name brands anytime soon. Still, I think this will sell well and hopefully increase PM awareness in the US and Canada where the NHL is fairly popular.
-
I really like them (except the deformations :( ), though I know basically nothing of ice hockey. Portugal is into ROLLER hockey..
Strange that the players are blisters... Less space though! And I hate the kids pictured in the hockey rink (is that the word?)... If they're not in the box (and they better NOT be!), don't picture them on the front! Makes it so unattractive..
-
I had planned on picking some of the ice hockey sets up before, these guys look pretty good! I love the little Stanley Cup
-
I wonder about numbers on the jerseys. It would be great if one can put different numbers on them

They come with number stickers - or, at least, there exist parts that are called things like "Etikett 5076 'Goalie Detroit Red Wings'" and the part-images look like number stickers, so I assigned them to the sets referenced in the part name. They're only labeled as belonging to the goalies, but I wouldn't be surprised if the corresponding ones come with the players too. The rink and the Zamboni come with stickers for all the team logos.
