Title: A little shopping centre
Post by: sbblabotw on February 22, 2015, 04:08:51
Just in case you were thinking my interaction with Playmobil was entirely digital, I offer a small real-world project my fourteen-year-old and I were working on this evening: to renovate the 5998 Playmobil Inn into a retail establishment. It's all from recent purchases (plus a lady from Fi?ures Series 4):
5490 Woman with Puppies
5611 Carrying Case Shop
5627 Children's Birthday Party
5631 Carrying Case Food Shop
5998 Playmobil Inn

Dress shop, with a discerning customer

Sweet shop/cafe. A bit bare, even restocked with the sweets from the birthday party... needs some work.

Outdoor seating area, with a couple friends meeting for tea.

Main entrance and information desk. I love this lady and wanted to give her a job under the new ownership!

It's a work in progress: I also bought the Toyshop interior thinking it would fit, but not even close. And the building is going to be difficult to expand, given the lack of straight roof-edge pieces and the unique peachy colour of some of the walls. White's common, though, so I'll think of something. Never thought I'd be getting into modern themes, but... here I am. They still might be invaded by pirates though.

That looks very cute! And the peachy colour is so much better than the pinkness of the shopping mall.

I'm very curious to see how you'll extend the building.

That's really nice :)

I like that you kept the woman in the information desk..

Nice work, Heather.  How about a Playmobil Heather serenading the cafe customers on her violin?

That looks very nice! What a good idea to use it as a shopping center. Great little custom project, and congrats on branching out to a new theme. There's no going back. ;D

They still might be invaded by pirates though.

Now you sound like my nephew... my niece's school, pony ranch, mall, or whatever else she is trying to play with get regularly invaded by pirates.

Now that I would love to see!   :)

What a fun evening you must have had, Heather.  Super job!

Thanks everyone! It really was fun, and nice to do as a family project. I have a feeling it'll sit there for a while, until I can get more time at it (and figure out what parts to order, and for them to arrive) but I am now looking at sets thinking about their potential use, rather than as intended. Makes a difference!

It looks like a very nice place to go shopping, nicely made and positioned.  :)

Great looking revamp of the set Heather. I like the addition of the outside eating area, the dress shop looks right on too.

I know the feeling.  Some sets seem so boring until you think about their potential in other ways.  I've done that myself and if I ever get the rest of the parts that I need I can finish up a project.

Great idea to use this shop as you gals did. We have been seeing them on auctions lately now that TRU has put them on clearancice so new ideas are welcome. To me it seemed a bit small for an inn but a boutique shop is much better

What a great scene, Heather!  I really like your alternate idea for the Inn set as various shops - there must be some way to expand the set-up if only to give that lovely information lady more to do so that she doesn't get bored and quit.  ;)

Aha, the daycare has matching roof parts!
30 22 6633 Roof edge corner, open square holes on bottom  (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-22-6633)
30 22 7223 Roof edge, straight, open square holes on bottom  (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-22-7223)

But the daycare's yellow walls are the wrong colour. The school's might be right, though - must have a closer look. I think I'm out of luck for coordinating baseplates.
