Martin Luther's born in Eisleben on November 10th 1487.

At this time Catholic church's selling indulgences to finance the renewal of St. Peters Cathedral in Rome.

Beeing a monk Luther's spending much time reading the Bible. Soon he became a priest and even a professor at Wittenberg university.

Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Reading St. Paul's Letter to the Romans (3,28) Luther realized selling of indulgences is not corresponding to the word of the Lord.

As having feared death himself, Luther's determined to let people know, god's not waiting for their money but granting mercy to those, who are faithful. So on October 31st 1517 he pinned 95 theses to the gate of Schloßkirche Wittenberg. This Placarding of 95 Propositions should start the "Reformation".

The Pope in Rome threatens to excommunicate Luther - who laughingly sets the Bulle on fire.

Luther's called to Worms before Kaiser and a papal delegate. Though he's expected to revoke his propositions, Luther just states:

It's not good to act against ones promptings of conscience, so here I stand and I can't do that ("Hier stehe ich, ich kann nicht anders") may god help me. Amen.
Therefore he's declared an outlaw.

Though having been granted a save passage back home beforehand, on his way home Luther's kidnapped.

The Saxonian Kurfürst, an ardent admirer of Luther, has him taken captive to put him safely to Wartburg castle.

Disguising himself as "Junker Jörg" ( :toot:), Luther translates the New Testament into German.

Soon riots start as followers of Luthers ideas try to spread the new faith by force. So after only half a year in shelter Luther leaves Wartburg castle proceding to preach again.

In the meantime the new faith has even reached monastries. A goup of nuns lead by Katharina von Bora flees their convent.

Still a catholic priest Luther gets married by Katharina.

A couple of years and countless discussions later, Philipp Melanchthon supportet by all German Kurfürsten presents the "Augsburger Bekenntnisse", a summery of theological statements describing the new faith in detail, to the Kaiser.
Protestant churches are born.
