New project! :confetti:
I wanted to do a BIG Victorian house with the pieces of all the houses I have, and put up different wallpaper patterns and curtains for a different look.
A big thank you to Skypurr for the link to free wallpaper patterns (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=14130.0 (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=14130.0)).
I used pieces from two 5300's (= the traditional one), two 5305's (= the small version), two 7411 (= extra floors), one yellow mansion and two pink gazebos.
I had enough spare pieces to make an extra house for the servants.
Turns out it is extremely difficult to change anything in the lay-out, because then pieces don't fit and there are no alternative pieces in existence. :wall: I made some custom floor pieces out of cardboard, because there is no other way to fit the staircases in. Not very sophisticated, but it works :) I intend to cover it with some kind of flooring.
As you'll see, the wallpaper is still loose (not glued on). I still need a non-permanent solution for that. If I glue it on, I might not get it off the original paper... And I also still need to wallpaper the side roof. It takes forever to get it right.
This is what I came up with, for now:

TThe ground floor with the kitchen on the far left:

The dining room off the kitchen and then the entrance hall:

The salon on the right hand side:

The first floor (bedroom and bathroom on the left, library, another bedroom on the right, with the original wallpapers):

The second floor (bedroom under side roof, bathroom, sun room):

More pictures will follow when I have managed to do proper flooring and when the furniture can go in - the fun part!
-
Very impressive start. Seeing more 5300 just makes me appreciate them more and more these days, such a beautiful toy. The parts are a bit challenging but at least you can customize with out cutting.
-
Absolutely magnificent
You have all my attention dear Friend
There is nothing better than starting the new year with exciting new projects !
-
Birdie, you always are a great designer!
Also here! The big house is really beautiful! And that´s a real challenge, I know!
Congrats!
Looking forward for the inside designs. ;)

That looks AMAZING! Looking forward to the furnitured pics :)
-
Wonderful. Can't wait to see it inhabited.
-
It looks wonderful Birdie, I love the way you have added the extra roof on the side.
I look forward to seeing it when it is finished.
-
Love it Birdie!
-
Wonderful looking house!
-
This looks beautiful. I'm not familiar with those houses, so I can't fully appreciate how much work goes into changing them to something else, but I imagine it's very difficult.
The grass and the fencing looks amazing too.
I've been attaching wallpaper with tiny tiny pieces (the tiniest I can make them) of poster putty, a piece in each corner and one or two more down the viewing/photograph side. There are corresponding tiny bumps in the paper, but if the paper used is at least ordinary printer paper thick and the wallpaper is patterned, it rarely shows. I have noticed, however, that after a week or two, the paper often sags/curls in the middle of the sheet - I've no idea why, but if there is a time between fixing the wallpaper and taking photos of it, I do need to check and to refix some pieces.
-
Thank so much you everyone for the sweet comments

I got two of those fence sets from DS as package deals (€18,49 instead of €21,49, they're still available).

Hmm, thanks for the tip, I might try that... And the poster putty doesn't leave scratches on the paper underneath, if you pull it off?
-
What a lovely big house and nice grounds the Klickies living there are in for a treat and all the different wallpapers and curtains look very nice. i look forward to seeing how you furnish it.
-

If you 'roll' it off, by using a larger piece of putty, just rolling it over the stuck-on pieces, it leaves what looks like grease marks on the underside of the wallpaper. But those marks don't show through to the front side unless it is very thin paper. I've reused wallpapers and floor coverings several times.
-
Ah but it's not the new wallpaper I'm trying to save, it's the original Playmobil wallpaper underneath.
-
I understand: sorry, I wasn't thinking about original wallpaper; I'm only accustomed to plain System X walls!
It could leave grease spots on the original wallpaper, I'm thinking. Depends how absorbent it is. I don't think I'd risk it all over unless I had an area to test it on first.
-
Wonderful job, Birdie! Your choice of wallpaper is beautiful and right on scale. You did a great job on the drapes as well. What a treat to see the pictures. I've had pretty good luck using rubber cement with wallpaper, but I'd try a test piece to be sure.

Such an impressive house. I can't imagine how much work thuis was, but the result is stunning. Love the colors you chose. They fit so well.
-
Thanks a lot, Joe and Sunflower :)
I don't really have a solution for the wallpapers yet, but I did do some flooring today:
First floor: Master bedroom, bathroom, hallway

I'm happy with the glossy photopaper for the tile floors. Shiny! 8-)
Don't know how I feel about the wooden floor.
-
It looks great so far, Birdie. :)
-
Love the tiled floors
Personally I think I would choose a wood floor with more brown in it rather than the bluish tinge (or is that just the photo?)
However with what you have done so far, I think you have done a great job.
-
Ah but it's not the new wallpaper I'm trying to save, it's the original Playmobil wallpaper underneath.
Does the original paper not come off? Mine didn't seem to be attached other than by the surrounds holding the windows and doors - I used it as a pattern to cut the new paper.
I can't remember though if the extension floor paper was loose or not. Is that what you mean?
-
I LOOVE those beds! Sylvanian, I suppose... So simple and... BROWN.
-

That's probably the photo, because the wooden floor is supposed to be in different shades of brown. It seems weird that it's glossy though, that only works for pristine polished wooden floors, not the shabby look of the floorboards I found. Ah well...

It depends. Some wallpaper just came loose (especially the paper from the old mansion I have back from when I was young - the glue is withered I think). The paper from the MISB mansion I bought last year is still firmly glued on. And I really don't want to ruin that wallpaper.

Well spotted :) I considered bying the living room too, but Sylvanian chairs and sofas really are too big for Playmobil.
-
I've never had a new mansion so I didn't realise that they were stuck on. :-[
For floorboards I have used a matt coated picture paper which gave a good clear image but without being shiny. I used that for the floor in my bandstand.
-
The shine on the tiles looks so good. I guess that shiny 'old' wood is not really what you want, but in the photographs, the wooden floor is my favourite; it's a great wood design and so suitable for the loft.
-
Thanks! I decided to leave it as it is. I'll try the matt coated picture paper Skypurr suggested next time around.
The interiors are finished, for the main house at least.

For the outside, the servant's house and the clickies I'm going to need some more time. For now, I'm quite pleased with it. The Sylvanian furniture adds a bit of difference - until Playmobil finally decides to elaborate on the Victorian theme again. :prays:
Oh yes, and one major frustration: I seem to have misplaced my box with flower pots. So that's why there are so few flowers in the house :shhhh:
-
That looks great :)
I really like the boat by the window... And that tasty cake makes me hungry!
(you're right, the sylvanian furniture adds nicely to it.. and you made it blend perfectly!)
-
I am loving this
Each room has an atmosphere and a style of its own and everything works so well together !
A bathroom with an open fireplace :o ! That is STYLE dear Friend !
I smiled at your Sylvanian accessories in the victorian kitchen since I will be presenting them too in my own kitchen next week :-[
A huge BRAVO to you
-
Well done Birdie. Beautiful and huge house with very nice accessories in every room!!
George. :)
-
The bathrooms are my favourites. And the dining room. But all so beautifully created.
-
Wonderful interior design work! I really like Grandpas rooms, he looks like a pretty interesting guy. Great job with the children's room too.
-
It looks so cosy and pretty. Eventhough the place is huge all rooms look comfortable. The childrens room are my favourites I think. But the kitchen is also lovely.
Is the silverware in the dining room also Playmobil? I really like that.
-
It's heartwarming to read all of your comments :) Thanks a lot!
I think my favourite is grandpa's room. I'll need to pick clickies next.
I really like the boat by the window...
Yeah me too I've been wanting to use it as a miniature ship for an adult room ever since I got it

Coming from the absolute King of Victorian displays, that means a great deal to me :)
The fireplace in the bathroom, well, I was just thinking how cold it must get in a house without central heating :-[ The clickies just need to be extra careful I guess ;D
My modest kitchen scene will of course be no match for the new kitchen of your grande mansion (which I am greatly looking forward to!!), I have no doubt, but your creations have been a true inspiration.
Sylvanian food is the BEST - I bought the supermarket recently and the candy and ice cream carts. Oh and a picnic set with hotdogs. Cuteness overload!
Is the silverware in the dining room also Playmobil? I really like that.
It's not Playmobil, and it's actually Playmovictorian who can tell you more about the silverware set. Karim sent it to me past summer, it has been waiting for a suitable room for display ever since
-
Great job you've done a really good job and furnished it well the Sylvanian Families furniture works well I remember having a very nice detailed grandfather clock and piano when I was a kid not to mention a TV in a cupboard which you could slide bits of card into to make different TV screens. I like the kitchen particularly all the little vegetables, the squash stood out when I first looked a the photos, like the way the cat seems to be looking at the vegetables, some great floors the tiles in the dining room and other rooms and the circular rug? in the bathroom look really good. I like some of items int he kids room like the little blue box and drawing pad but, my favourite's got to be the room with the parrot like the painting and palette and particularly the model ship  beautiful is it Playmobil?

That's one of the first sets I bought when I realized a local toy shop sells Sylvanian :D
It is the best! Slightly too modern for the mansion, alas.
 beautiful is it Playmobil?
It sure is!!

A little update: the grounds are finished:
It was a productive Playmoday. :)
-
That's beautiful. The ground textures are amazing, of course - but I especially love the way you have done the waterfall into the pond. It looks so 'natural' there, and is that the original pond, or a replacement? It looks bigger than the original in my memory. But, whatever - either you've made a very good choice in replacement; or you have made an original pond look like something far better.
-
Thanks! :) The waterfall & pond is the same old one I use all the time. Maybe it looks a teensy bit bigger because I didn't put the tree stumps in? I covered the holes with 2 water lilies.
-
Love it Birdie!
-
I am in love with this picture
-
The grounds look fantastic, Bridie. That is an impressive home, for sure. ;)
-
Beautiful! Love the swan pond with waterfall and the white knight statue in the colonnade.
-
Das mir das bisher entgangen ist... Was für ein tolles Haus! Shame I haven't seen that before. A marvellous house!

I finally had time to enjoy this thread and I LOVED IT!!!!!

The syllvanian furnitre works wonders!
Is the bathroom in the attic for children also silvanian?
How big is the house? at least 1 meter by 70 centimeters high? :o
-
Thanks! ;D It must have been 1 meter 20 by 1 meter, at least. I couldn't lift it off the floor by myself.
That bathroom is Sylvanian, yes. The toilet is a tad too big, but so cute and made of material that looks like porcelain.
I still have a few pictures of the house for the servants, too:

It's taken down again. I would have liked to make a photo story, but there was no time.
-
Its a very beautifull setup, having the grass and the road nicely seperated like that just adds a lot to it.
Such a nice house, and the rooms are nicely decorated. A shame you didnt have time for a story, it could look beautifull. We can use more victorian stories around here. :)
Its definatly one of those themes I'd be interested in if space was not an issue.

Agreed, there is something wonderful to see wherever you look! Love the attic bath.

very nice creation! With the alley with fences, grass and all the set-up it reminds me of propertys in the Loire region in France... "Les Chateaux de la Loire"...
I just love what you've done with these sets!
Cheers from Canada

nice Birdie, very lovely.
After taking it down, do you keep it all together (boxed) or does it get diminished to parts again?
-
Thanks you guys for your sweet comments :)

It gets diminished to the tiniest parts. Difficult job, but convenient when I start on something new.
