Title: Series 8 and 9
Post by: Jay on January 10, 2015, 03:35:12
Maybe this is somewhere else and I haven't seen it. The new catalog has the pictures for the Series 8 and 9 mystery figures. There are about a half dozen really neat ones there.  Unfortunately, there are some reissues, and some really boring ones.

There are a couple interesting ones in the bunch.

Definatly many great figures there, I hope to get:

-The warrior king in green.
-Pirate.
-Wizard.
-Viking.
And I gues the western soldier and crusader wouldnt be bad to get either by accident.

Not really sure about the female gladiator character.. I want to see what clothes she wears behind that shield. It looks rather modern. If it turns out to be fitting for a gladiator I'd like to get that character though.

I wondered about that one also.  Though there apparently women gladiators, from the one picture she looks more fashion modelish than fighter.  I thought the most interesting figure is the Napoleon one. I see that as the prize figure from that series.

I want that female gladiator.. And most likely her legs in numbers! (the shield is HORRID)

There are some nice ones, but they really seem to be lacking in creativity even when reusing old parts. A bunny lady, but exactly the same as the old one? They couldn't even bother to change the paint color on the printing or the plastic color on part of the clothes?

I must say its a lot better than batch 7 which I found quite weak.

That warrior king is just amazing. I love those colors. That dwarf king of batch 9 is cool too, they are finally learning to make great king characters.

For what I like, I reckon these might be some of the best series so far. :D The only complaint that I have is that some of them seem a bit light on the accessories.

Series 8: As Rhalius has noted, the green king is really great. He and the crusader are my favourites of the group for sure. The Viking is cool too, and the wizard would be fantastic for parts (the hat and staff).

I want that female gladiator.. And most likely her legs in numbers! (the shield is HORRID)

Yes, I agree, those legs will be great! ;)

Series 9: The dwarven king is great too. He reminds me of the Asian Dragonland king in the Advent calendar set, except that he appears to have a properly moulded face instead of a printed one! :) The ninja seems like a repeat, but I never got the other one, so I'd like to get this one. I also like the archer, catwoman, and dancer. The legs on the latter two look great! ;)

So many great ones for us in series 8
The crusader looks great and should add diversity to our gang.
The Viking is nice but isn't that the same print on a recent knight?
Need loads of the confederate
I too like the green king
Need bout a dozen football players for a new team
The wizard look cool, literally, he looks like the ice witchs wizard.
Want the new spider witch and Indian girl
The female gladiator need some clothes if she is going to fight.
Finally a female clown
All the others seem common repeats

They are in the 2015 International catalogs. You can see them at the various Playmobil sites.
For the UK it's at: 2015 UK Catalog (http://www.playmobil.co.uk/on/demandware.store/Sites-GB-Site/en_GB/Include-Scene7Ecatalog?ecat_id=KATALOG_UK_2015_150dpi&pdf_id=KATALOG_UK_2015_150dpipdf&width=780&height=645)

Huh, does the UK not get the new medieval Lion faction but instead the Green Wolf faction of DS?

That's odd.

Oh, that is interesting. The US catalog shows the Falcon and Lion knights but the green wolf knights are on their website too. The UK catalog doesn't show the Lion knights, but has the Wolf knights featured instead. The Lion Knights are on their website though. That's an odd first for a major theme.

Thanks I did actually look a tone of the foreign websites since the UK sometimes seems to be slower at these things but, they only showed the old sets  :-[

Yes Playmobil finally seem to be showing more of their creative sites I'd already seen the Witch and American Football player seem to be some interesting figures in the girls camp as well Gladiators, Clowns, Rabbit women and Cat Woman and Mrs Doubtfire seems to be making an appearance

I've ordered a catalogue so will be interested to get a better look at some of the figures the new Knight (stunning  :o so unlike anything Playmobil's done before), Dwarf, Mongol and Soldiers already excite me, I'm intrigued about the Wizard there's other figures like the Indian, and Policemen that  probably aren't anything particularly new but, which I'd buy to add variety to my collection   would like to have closer look at the Explorer, Viking and the Gladiator (not keen on him but, if he looks good would be nice to have another one). Interesting to see as well that they seem to have updated and released the old Soldier Zindorf?

Huh, does the UK not get the new medieval Lion faction but instead the Green Wolf faction of DS?

That's odd.

Interesting point  :eh?: I wonder why they've shown/done that, I've got to admit I find the Lion colour scheme attractive but, in terms of armour/helmet design there's probably only 1 or 2 figures I'd like to buy.

the best series(es) for me so far....a lot of new parts & colors....someday I hope the loose white sleeves can come in blue or black (of course white is still the most veratile ;) ) ;) and the airhostess' scarf can be in yellow(the red is easily available from DS)
...now to start dreaming up an order in late Feb ;D

Oh some hot stuff in these series, friends! My picks:

8:

Crusader - God yes! In a just world PM would do an entire Crusades theme but this will do for now! Anyone know if the livery is that of an actual order? Previous crusaders were accurate Teutonic Knights (black cross) and Knights Templar (red cross).

Viking - I am not into this theme but I might get this one, that looks like a new shield!

Confederate - Oh HELL yes! Anyone know if his uni is accurate to a specific unit?

Green king - Looks SMASHING. Would make a great crusader king with different livery.

Spaceman - Possible, for the weird rifle.

Wizard - Also a possible. I reckon he's an Istari. Looks a little bare without a cloak though.

Ethnic girl dancer - Hard to tell but if that's an accurate cultural type I am having one!

Dirndl woman - I am feeling an urge begin with the recent spate of dirndl chicks. Might snag one of these.

Gladiatrix - Frankly the shield is a massive disappointment, and the helmet is of course not accurate, but depending on how the body looks I might grab one. They should have done the main sequence gladiators with those baywatch legs, to simulate the loincloth look. Next time....

9:

Napoleon - OH MY DEAR LORD YES!!!

Dwarf king - Very probably yes.

Mongol warrior - SWEET BABY JAMES GIVE ME THAT! I only wish they gave their Mongol figures scimitars, not katanas or European swords.

Prussian cop - No question. I crave pickelhaubes and got a puppet theater just so I could get one. I might get several of this.

Gladiator - No question, though I'll dump the anachronistic battleaxe. I notice they have followed my lead in giving Roman figures the Egyptian daggers now, not the medieval ones.

Fan woman - Maybe? Anyone know if that's a representation of a specific culture, or just a mish mash?

Mrs Doubtfire - Might get one and change the hair colour and give it to a friend it resembles. :D  Is it my imagination or are her ankles fatter than the ankles of the other figures??

In short, I might actually buy a couple of whole boxes in order to insure I get what I want. GOOD TIMES AHEAD.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned already... The picture of the female gladiator was just put in their Facebook page, she has a tattoo on the left side of her face, and she's got eyebrows

Judging on the larger picture I have seen of it, it seems her top is silver and not white as I first suspected. So its a chestplate and not a white top.

Though I must say if its a chestplate they could have provided a little detail on it.

Cool, thanks. Kind of a neat face, and as I said I dig the loincloth look for gladiators and gladiatrices, but that shield and, yeah, that top just seem totally out of whack. I might get her and slap a manica on her, maybe give her a short spear instead.

Oh, thanks a lot for the close up, I think we will be using her in a lot of themed dioramas. I see her in western bad girl, change her legs perhaps and add a coat with sleves. Also a good addition to the modern spy team, Laura croft villain type. Lots of uses.

Good luck with that. Speedo arms. Different.  >:(
(No, I am not over this mess.)

(the shield is fortunately easily solved, though it is a bit lame.. would be better to have a nicer completely unappropriate shield  ;D )

It would be nice if they used the buckler more. :) That piece is too under-used, and it would fit her nicely.
