I do like the new knight factions, but playmobil's insistence on system WHY means we no longer get the castles. Well, not the current ones, anyways, a fact my wallet is very grateful for.
So, we try to get the most interesting klickys from parts, lots, and of course the ds builder 3+1 sets. I got these some time ago from a german playmofriend... I intend to get a couple more, maybe to round the next PCC orders.
This time, all the leaders are fat. Weird. Welcome, since there are not many, and the torsos are very nice. As happens most times (including with the freaking confederates!), they vary wildly. Anyways...

6380 Lion Leader
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/6380a.jpg)
Fat guy, with a lovely beard. He has pretty wrist wear in gold, and a bigugly helmet. Though I don't think we have it in gold, so.... :-[
The torso has a peg on the side, and is the reason we decided to buy this one. It is completely worthless for weapons (unless I'm missing something). Put anything there, and the guy can't move. (I wonder how the tried it. They DID try it, right?)
The shield handle was VERY hard to rotate. Though it is quite useful, I prefer the old round shields, with both grips.
As you can see, the torso is plain under the armor. Oh, goody.

6382 Eagle Leader
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/6382a.jpg)
My first question was "How am I gonna make a roman legion without belts, to include this guy?" But then I gave that up... not only couldn't figure out the belt thing, but also not sure about the fat part...
There is a somewhat confused flagpole - what's with the lance guard?
He has that arm armor that prevents the hands from moving... Made worse by those "wings" on top. He has the new fat-belt.
He really could use a neckpiece - with that huge helmet AND arm armor...
This one also has a big ugly helmet, hiding a quite nice head/hair/beard combo. Yes, even being THAT hair.

6384 Wolf Leader
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/6384a.jpg)
A very color coordinated fat guy, in greens. Gorgeous torso, with a nice stone age beard.
Beautiful klicky. And my favorite "large helmet" sculpt  Just not very sure about that feather sticking out.

6379 Lion Warriors
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/6379a.jpg)
These guys are a big mess of colors, symbols, shields, helmets... I suppose if you get a few of these you can create some sort of army. They look too fancy not to be in uniform. Then again, that could be me. And I fixed that. Mostly.
This set brings the new gloves and shoulder wear in gold.
I find the strong color combination a big (ok, a HUGE bit) much.
The peg also doesn't work for a quiver. The guy in the roman torso could REALLY use a neckpiece.
There's a classic triangle cut + beard in a most gorgeous very DARK brown

6381 Eagle Warriors
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/6381a.jpg)
These are at least more color coordinated, in black+red and light metal, though with many reused parts... I don't like that armor (both, actually, cause they cover the face - yes, I know it's silly of me, but I can't help it :-[ )
There are a couple of dark metal weapons - including a short spear (I don't see many about) and an ill fitting big sword on a belt.
There is the new gloves in light metal, but the shoulder pieces are not the new one, but the manly-dragon ones, I think. Not near as nice.
The girl haired longbowman is a bit... odd. Longbow, HUGE axe (double handed, I would think) PLUS a shield. Gods. But hey, too many weapons is an easy to solve issue.
The roman torso guy needs a neckpiece. (actually I think I could base a "legion" on these... but I'd need 10-12 of them :-\ )
There's a great caveman hair in brown  (NORMAL brown, not the usual red-brown), and it's silly, but welcome as it's easily fixed, one of them has a girl hair in blonde.
And... what's with that belt? A peg in the middle? Doesn't even settle well. And.. what if the guy sits down?! That looks VERY VERY PAINFUL. What in Hades is that supposed to be?
I thought it was the other way around (upside down), but, no... have no idea what the point of the thing is.
As you can see, it settles in the middle of the torso... I wonder if mine is defective? Does anyone else have this set? Figured out the point of this? I have to admit I never noticed the thing before (and it IS clear on the set pics!)

6383 Wolf Warriors
(http://www.playkingdoms.com/temp/playmoproc/6383a.jpg)
I think this is my favorite one. Also quite color coordinated (except the weird blunt dagger in light metal), in pretty green and dark metal. Besides, looking "rougher" than their peers, they'd probably look good in numbers, not completely uniform.
Again, a big sword that doesn't fit in the belt. Sigh. And there's a silly kryptonite axe.
This has the gloves+shoulder wear in dark metal. It's soooo nice.
Another longbowman with a shield. But those shields are awesome so...
And another roman torso guy who needs a neckpiece.
And a caveman hair in blonde

Final comments..
The flagpoles are soft... Can't have dumb kids poking their eyes out, right?
I'm not fond of the fat guy's belt peg. Don't like it in "normal" belts, and these are worse. It just becomes far too bulky. With fat guys is even worse. And these, unlike the others, you can't turn around. A real real shame, because then we could have them with belts in uniforms too, and like this... Meh.
Both the Lion and the Wolf warriors packs had two stickers. The lion one said 6384 underneath, but the other one was the same reference, though a different sticker. Odd.

For us, at least, the shoulder armor and gloves are new, in different colors. Very nice, especially the shoulder things. Pity that the light metal one was that uglier sculpt. Now need a couple of dozen each.

These shields, from the different wolf sets have a different end digit:

Thanks for the interesting review Tahra. I will be getting the green guys eventually. I do like the gloves and shoulder pieces. I suspect on the shields the final number is the position within the mold. The rest is probably the mold number.
-
Nice review of the knights. Is there green arms to make the green fat and normal knights more civilian? Brown pants should look nice replacing the armored legs. They look a bit fantasy with the provided weapons.
-
I'm not a fan at all of the new knight factions, though the green wolves look better than the other two yet oddly they are not available in stores.
The lions seem like a clown army and I strongly dislike the painted armor parts on these new falcons. Both armies could have been much nicer if they had uniform soldiers, it could work pretty well for them.
I'll skip these, I tend to only get new knight factions if I can use them.. mostly I got many tournament knights since they could be easily used as a vassal or such.. and plenty of lions that work with the classic lions.
Depending on where my stories go, I might need a reasonable number of medieval soldiers of another faction, but it wont be any of these three.

That was what I thought too...

I THINK there are (will be?) a couple of us exclusives for the green wolves. But yes, very odd to have a faction on ds only.

Yes... I did my best to fix them, but.. since the darn shields have that color, and I don't like to just ignore them...
and I strongly dislike the painted armor parts on these new falcons.
Really? I really like the roman torsos with the eagle print!
-
That eagle print is fine, its that weird painted part on the longbowman that ticks me off. It seems a common thing amongst the falcon sets to the point it cant be avoided.
It looks sci-fi to me and not medieval.
I believe a few specials had such a thing in the past as well.

Ah, I think I understand what you mean now. I don't really have a problem with that print, it's the sculpt that puts me off..

Thanks for the review, tahra. I'm still not sure whether I'll like the chainmail shoulder pieces or gloves, but there seem to be a good amount of interesting parts in these sets.

I LOVE the shoulder pieces.. I don't love the gloves, cause, again, they prevent the movement.. They look good though. And much better than those big full arm pieces!

Thanks for the informative review, tahra.
Meh, ill gladly pass on these. I wish they would sack whoever is coming up with these uninspired (and uninspiring) designs.
-
Thanks a lot for the detailed review! 8-)
I am on the fence about these soldiers too. Maybe it's the colour scheme, it seems a bit too bright and primary colour-ish. It stands out a lot.

The sword holders (scabbards) are what tick me off the most about these recent waves. What was wrong with the old belts with a loop in them???? I also wish they did more realistic stuff. It's a subject which we have discussed ad nauseum, i know, but i wish they started catering for the adult collector too, like lego does.

I think they may look great, AFTER fixed. I think the problem is, like Birdie said, the 3 strong colors together is just too much. If not for the shields, we'd just split them. I really like the pikemen I did - the color, I mean.

Variety is good, but I really don't like the way these ones look with an attached look and a sword or whatever in front. I like them if turned backwards, but can't do that with those fat ones >:(

Then people might... give them money. THE HORROR.

Nice review.
I like the lion knights from 6379 and 6380 the most. They resemble those old figures in the 90s and early 2000, without emplying too much of printing and stickers!! :sleigh:

That mid-torso belt with peg is indeed a very weird part!
There is nothing wrong with the one you have, I got hold of a few of them and they´re all the same, like yours.
A while ago I used one on a custom-soldier for a joke, see pic attached.
Maybe the belt was originally intended for swimsuit-figures, which have a more narrow torso? ???

No, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't fit... I tried on both kinds of normal female torsos, meh. Have no idea what they were thinking...
Ideas?
