Title: Home 3D printing
Post by: Rasputin on December 22, 2014, 14:29:06
I was taking a ride along to Home Depot and while I was waiting I noticed a display of Dremel's. It was a home 3D printer that was simple to use, or at least that is how they are advertising it as. I called the company and found out that it can print any CAD from the following programs

TinkerCAD
MeshMixer
123D Design
123D Sculpt

Do the resident 3D-ers use any of these programs? Are they hard to use for Tech-traded folks?

Its a Dremel 3D idea builder for $1000, ouch but getting cheaper

Hey Walter.
I've used Tinkercad for a year or so. It was actually my first CAD software, but I changed fast because it's very limited. Remember my first 3D renders, with the big polygons? They were made with Tinkercad.
I'm surprised this print can work with those CAD files only though. Tinkercad could save all files as .stl (stereolithography) which has become the worldwide format for 3D printing.
$1000 is a bit expensive, but I expect this printer to use the same process as the Makerbot (hot wire), so, not worth buying anyway…

Are there any good sources for free 3D playmobil patterns?
