Title: Modern city street
Post by: Birdie on August 18, 2014, 14:27:30
I started building this diorama in April, but I've been so busy that it has taken me this long to finally get it photographed.
I had to dust it so many times! :)

The diorama includes a hospital, a kiosk, the butcher's, a supermarket, a bank and café, a school and a playground. I've also used two modern houses and some of the garden stuff that I've been collecting over the years.
I think I need more zebra crossings though, poor clickies  ;D

You don't waste any time!

So many details.. And such great "flooring" :wow:

Love the food - is the burger sylvanian?

And the doll propped up in the classroom was a great idea.

The kid's room with all the mess made me laugh.

The dog food on the counter..

The indian shields as decoration =

That hair really works well with the waitress.

And I really like the well stocked supermarket...

And Sonia busting out of the dress :lmao:

(probably more to see)

LOVE all the details! Fantastic!

There's one thing that caught my eye though.... you have a black baby with white clothes??... I thought the only black baby was the one from The Colorado Springs train station... and that one has yellow clothing.  :o :o :o :o :o where did you get that one?

When I was young I had no idea the black baby was rare, and I wanted to change its outfit. So I pulled off its head and swapped bodies with a white baby in white clothes. Luckily it worked

You don't waste any time!

Since I've been back from our long holiday, I've had plenty of Playmotime on my hands, and lots to catch up on. Plus the weather in Belgium is awfull  :-\

The street looks pretty nice, I think. Found it in the model train shop. The scale is supposed to be smaller, so for Playmobil it's a narrow one-way street, but that means I have more space for buildings  :)

The burger is Sylvanian, yes. There's also French fries and soda cups, SO cute  ;D

I'm pretty sure that doll on display actually came with the classroom  :-[

The kid's room with all the mess made me laugh..

An ode to my childhood bedroom...

And Sonia busting out of the dress :lmao:

Patrick's out there too somewhere  ;D

Ever since you announced doing this diorama I've been looking forward to it. I think it is even better than I could imagine. Just wonderful. I love the flooring and all the different kinds of vegetation you used everywhere. This town looks so real. The childrens rooms, the gardens. I think I'd like to live there. I am really amazed by your collection of fourniture and food. Love the Sylvanian additions.

Your pictures are so beautiful. Really love to look at them. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice settup so much which you could comment on I love the way it's so bright with all the posters, notices and other decorations plus all the houses covered in flowers and has such a diverse population the woman in the sahri stood out to me.  For some reason all the areas with kids really appeal to me I like the modern baby in birght green and blue and the way you've posed the two black babies, the kids in the first house sure are lucky having so many nice toys and again bright bedrooms  :o  I noticed you used some other similarly sized toys as well like the one which looks like a Power Ranger in the clinic.  Your supermarket is also nice very well stocked and the cafe is clearly popular nice use of the Sylvanin Families food it looks very realistic and nice with the old cafe.

This is so wonderful, so brilliant.  Beautifully done, beautifully photographed, and all the details are absolutely delightful.  My favourite things:

- the pavement, the grass, and the shingle driveway
- the garden ponds
- the trees
- the blue outside lights on one of the houses (blue outside lights?! Where did they come from?) and the mailbox on the door
- the blue and white and a touch of green kitchen ... the details are perfect
- the outdoor shelves of flowers on the balcony
- the Native American decorations and toy
- the toddler in the pram - and mother - looking at the police officers
- the man in the suit coming out of the bank
- the burgers and fries
- the café worker (or supervisor or manager, I think) in his tie and waistcoat
- one of the children in the classroom looking out of the window
- the wandering ahead toddler by the ice-cream/pizza counters
- apple juice in the crate on the shopping trolley (I love the father and child outfits too)
- the oranges in the basket
- bottled water (I'm assuming that Sonia is collecting that, and not vodka!)
- the labels on the bread counter shelves (did they come with those stickers, or did you make them? They look superb)
- the price display at the supermarket checkout turned towards the customer
- the fruit and vegetables weighing scale
- the 'old' pushchair/stroller outside the clinic
- the toddler by the clinic reception staring at the wheelchair
- the board game on the table in the clinic waiting room - and the untidy books there, open comic on the chair, wagon of toys
- the patient walking with her drip stand
- the skateboarder
- the children discussing their football game

I love it all!

:thanks: Thank you so very much for all of your sweet comments  :D  I'm so happy you like it.

You're all invited to come play along, by the way, I wish that were possible  ;D

- the blue outside lights on one of the houses (blue outside lights?! Where did they come from?) and the mailbox on the door

They came with that house  :)

- bottled water (I'm assuming that Sonia is collecting that, and not vodka!)

Quite right, she's trying to fit into her dress again  ;)

- the labels on the bread counter shelves (did they come with those stickers, or did you make them? They look superb)

The bakery set came with those stickers. I really like 'm too!

I noticed you used some other similarly sized toys as well like the one which looks like a Power Ranger in the clinic.

Sometimes Kinder Surprise Eggs and such have these tiny toys that are of Playmobil size. I always have an eye out for Playmobil compatible stuff  :)

An ode to my bedroom NOW.   :P

That does it, I'll have to come over on a Playmobildate

Beautifully designed diorama! Lots of wonderful details, the balcony garden is great, love the kids rooms, the really full looking store. Lots to go back and look at again. Are the cat and camel rugs Playmobil? Sylvanian? I really like the cat rug.

Thank you Tiermann  :)

Those 'rugs' are actually patches to iron onto kid's clothes (like on knees or elbows). I think I found them in a store for sewing and knitting accessories. They go waaay back.

Absolutely beautiful! Love the houses you've designed, especially that balcony with the trellis from the vacation villa. So many nice details in there.

It looks very beautifull, so many details! I like the kids playing around at the playground, and all the families in their houses.. you could practicly create a playmobil soap series with this setup!

I've only just had time to catch up with this topic.  A number of people have used the word "stunning", and it is.  And the detail is amazing; I'm going to have to go back a number of times and look through it again to see everything.

In the first few photos, I liked:

the foliage overhanging the street in the first picture;

the 3-storey house, superb!

the use of the grass sheets (I guess they are from a model railway shop or wargamers shop, they look like the sort you can buy there);

the drives of the houses look very realistic - did you use sandpaper for them from a diy shop?

the kitchen photo is superb.  It reminds me of the paintings of the old Dutch masters.

the clinic is an amazing building, inside and out;

and the detail in the supermarket - speechless!

Thanks playmofire, Salamander and Mr Raven. I'm so very happy that you're enjoying it as much as I am  :)

For the photos I've installed two very bright spotlights from different positions. The roof here is very high with beams, so they're high up. Somehow it works  :)

the use of the grass sheets (I guess they are from a model railway shop or wargamers shop, they look like the sort you can buy there);

the drives of the houses look very realistic - did you use sandpaper for them from a diy shop?

Yes both the grass and the 'sandpaper' come from a model railway shop, they came in large sheets like you said.

I've been experimenting with different types of flooring, and I'm pretty happy with what I found this time.
What I still need to buy: a double sided tape roller! Everything keeps curling upwards, no matter what I try.

And is it just me or has the ginger cat on the balcony moved?

I know, she just wouldn't sit still  ::)

In effect, they are the same as the sun, although not maybe in 1:24 scale!

Yeah  I actually thought about that when shooting this diorama: 'How come those kids at home are not in school?'
At least I made sure there weren't any kids on the street  ;D

For such a small supermarket, they're also a bit over-staffed...

What a delightful little town in which I would love to live

Everything is set up in such a realistic yet fun way and I love the way you have used the plants throughout the diorama to create a real "green feel" !

The word that comes to my mind is happy little people !

Well, when I was little (and dinos roamed This Land  ;D ), kids didn't get stored in school all freaking day long. Young kids had school in the morning OR afternoon. Schools did NOT provide warehousing for the whole rest of the day, with the pretense of "assisted study"...

Wow  :o  When my parents were in school, they even had school on Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Here in Belgium, school is from 8.30am to 3.30pm. And that does not even include assisted study hours...

I meant little kids - when I went to "high school" (from 7th to 11th, cause the 12th was soooooo light!) we did have some days with classes in mornings and afternoons. There was a year where they had the unfortunate idea of classes saturday morning  :hmm:  It was "drawing"... when it rained the night before, the classroom would soak, and no class!  :P
