Several weeks have passed since the grand tournament ended in disaster.
During the final match between the new champion Sir Christopher and the ruling champion Sir Cedric, the Dread Baron interrupted, wounded Christopher and was an even match for Cedric, who has been considered unbeatable for many years.

But this was all a diversion, to ensure all eyes would be focused on Ranulf the Dread Baron, and not on the assasin known as the Blue Shadow.

He was hired to kill King Phillip, but Cedric was just in time to jump in front of the king and as a result was hit by the poisoned arrow meant for King Phillip.

While the blue shadow and his protector where captured by Frederick and Roderick, the Dread Baron managed to escape.

With Cedric unable to leave his bed due to the poison in his body that keeps him very sick, Henry has been asked to step forward and take his brother's place as the castle's protector and millitairy leader for the time being. While he does not feel he is ready for it, his sister Elena, as well as Roderick and Frederick will do what they can to help their brother and friend with this burden.

After managing to reveal that Prince Edward the Lion had hired the Dread Baron, the Blue Shadow and his protector, it has become time to reveal the true nature of the scheming Prince to everyone, now that they know for certain he is up to no good, and Sir Christopher has an idea about how to go about this: A meeting of kings.

While recovering from his wounds, he has been a guest at King Phillip's castle and helped put the plan into motion, sending out invitations to all the rulers of the continent, arranging a neutral meeting place and ensuring all this is done with utmost secrecy so that Prince Edward won't learn about it.
Attempts to hunt down the Dread Baron have been in vain, The mysterious Krinflower is needed to cure Cedric from his poison according to the very man who fired the arrow, and more and more tales are heard about Prince Edward recruiting more soldiers to his cause.
While the enemies have revealed themselves, this does not make them any less dangerous or numerous. Will Henry, Frederick and Rocerick be able to put a stop to them? Will King Phillip and Queen Dominique be able to convince the other rulers that Prince Edward and the Dread Baron are a danger to all of them? These answers will come soon.

Today is the day, King Phillip and Queen Dominique will soon depart for their meeting.
King Phillip: "Thank you Sir Christopher, for helping us out in these times of need."

Christopher: "Merely doing what is right my lord. Prince Edward and the Dread Baron are a threat to us all."
Queen Dominique: "If it where not for you this meeting would not have happened, thank you for helping us to arrange it."
Sir Christopher smiles and bows politely in thanks of the praise, and steppes aside when King Phillip gestures to Roderick, Henry and Frederick to step forward.

Roderick: "Will we be escorting you to the meeting, your majesty?"
King Phillip shakes his head and smiles. "Not today Roderick. Sir Stephen and Sir Jory will escort us."
Frederick doesn't seem too pleased with this though. "Why not us?" He asked.
Queen Dominique smiles. "Henry needs to stay here to protect the castle and guard over his brother, and the three of you are a strong team. And Sir Jory and Sir Stephen are a strong team as well, they worked together quite often. It seemed wisest to not take apart such teams and make sure we are at our strongest in these dangerous times. We need you here to help your friend, Frederick. You too Roderick. The Krinflower must also still be found."
Frederick nodded in agreement, seemingly agreeing now that it was explained to him.
Henry: "We won't let you down, your majesty." All three of them bow politely to the King and Queen.
The three move down the stairs to the courtyard, where they are greeted by Sir Christopher.

Sir Christopher: "I will stay here for now to help out, with the Krinnflower needing to be found and Cedric not being in good condition, it looks like you may have use of an extra sword."
Henry: "We appreciate it, really. I mean you won the tournament so clearly you know your stuff."
Sir Christopher frowns. "I should have seen that attack of the Dread Baron comeing though.. he caught me completely by surprise."
Frederick nods in agreement. "He seems unbeatable, just like Cedric.. it's like they are so far ahead of everyone else on the battlefield."
Christopher: "We will put a stop to him though, if we all work together we can do this."
Roderick still is not too happy about not going along with the king though.. guarding the king and queen is his task after all, along with Sir Stephen. When the king and queen walk down the stairs to go to their horses, he decides to ask them about it again.

Roderick: "Are you sure you do not want me to come with you my lord? only two knights may be little protection for you.. perhaps more soldiers should be send?"
King Phillip: "This is a peacefull meeting Roderick, and many kingdoms are not on good terms.. we have all agreed to not take armies with us, only a few protectors.. we use utmost secrecy to get there."
While Stephen and Jory got on their horses, Queen Dominique turned to adress the knights staying behind.

Queen Dominique: "Don't worry about us, we will be well protected. And the castle must be kept safe. And most importantly, everyone in it. Sir Christopher will be here to help you with this, and Baron Blacktower can always be asked for advice as well. In our absence he is the lord of the castle."
While the King and Queen leave the castle with Sir Jory and Sir Stephen, Baron Blacktower walks down the steps with a smile towards the three knights.

Baron Blacktower: "No need to feel bad good knights! I have send a message to my younger brother, he will be arriving here soon and he will bring some experienced veterans with him! That way you three can feel safe and go find that Krinnflower, cure Cedric and then Cedric will defeat the Dread Baron. It's quite simple, really!"
Somehow Roderick, Henry and Frederick where not as optimistic as Baron Blacktower however.. while they wished things where that easy, they learned in the past months that their enemies have a knack for showing up at the worst times. They never met the younger Blacktower brother either, they only heard of him.
He supposedly is just as optimistic as the Baron, but more adventurous. Fancying himself a great hero while in truth his soldiers are doing all the work.

While he does not look like a great warrior himself, the battle hardened soldiers and knight with him look like they mean business.
Soldier: "Open the gate for Sir Herbert Blacktower!"

Through the opened gates, Herbert Blacktower rides in with an air of confidence, as if he had just saved the day with his mere presence.

Baron Blacktower smiled to the three friends and gestured to his little brother. "The reinforcements have arrived, you can always count on a Blacktower to save the day!"
Herbert stepped off his horse, and walked to his big brother with a smile. "Greetings Lambert, how has life been treating you?"

Baron Blacktower smiled: "Wonderfull as always! I caught three boars in my lastest hunting trip, I bought a new ring several days ago that I'm really fond of and I organised a grand tournament several weeks ago! others helped of course, but I did most of the planning.. sadly it was interrupted by that Dread Baron fellow.. because of him we couldn't have the feast afterwards. A shame really, since we where going to serve three types of stuffed geese."
Herbert laughed. "There are always some bumps in the road yes, it happens all the time during my many adventures! Don't worry though, I am here now and I brought some very experienced veterans with me!"
Herbert smiled and gestured to his men.

They did indeed look impressive.. like they had seen quite some battle.
As the two Blacktower Brothers continue their friendly conversation, talking as if there is nothing to worry about in these troubled times, Henry finds its time to start putting their plans into action.

Henry: "I am not sure how much help Sir Herbert will be if there is trouble, but his soldiers should be of good help.. I'd like you two to go find the Krinflower in pepperwood forest... speak with Lady Beatrice first, she knows what the Krinflower looks like."
Frederick: "You are not comeing with us?"
Henry shakes his head. "It's better if at least one of us stays here at the castle, and I feel its best if its me. That way I can look after my brother and get an idea of what these new troops can do."
Roderick nods in agreement. "Alright, don't worry. We will handle this. We will try to be back as soon as possible."

Nice I can see what they mean about Herbert, altohugh it's good to see his nice variety of troops I really like what you've done with the Fleur De Lis Knight I like that hair and beard and it looks really great on that figure. At least know that the Castle is well guarded Roderick and Frederick can go look for the Krinflower without worrying about the safety of the castle plus Henry's there to keep an eye on things, look forward to seeing more :knight:

Following Henry's advice, Roderick and Frederick go to lady Beatrice. She knows a lot about alchemy and all manner of plants.

Beatrice: "Ah I was already expecting you two, should I wait for Henry?"
Roderick: "Henry stays here to guard the castle, it's just the two of us going after the Krinflower."
Beatrice: "Very well.. what you need to know about the Krinflower is that it looks a lot like a white lily. But unlike the lily, the Krinflower has no scent. And also can't be used to cure this poison."
Frederick: "We better be on our way then, the faster we return with it the better."
Beatrice smiles: "Yes, the sooner I can create the cure for Cedric. I will go work on the preperations right away. Take care Frederick. You too Roderick. "
Wasting no more time, they get on their horses and quickly gallop towards Pepperwood forest.

While Roderick and Frederick are away, Henry goes to check on Cedric. Elena is also there, rarely leaving her brother's side.

Henry: "It won't be long anymore brother.. Roderick and Frederick are on their way to get the plant that will cure you."
Cedric speaks weakly, barely able to keep his eyes open but he manages to smile slightly: "That's good Henry.. that's good.."
He is not able to say much more, feeling too weak to really talk much at all.
Henry nods to his brother before turning around, not wanting his big brother to see the tears in his eyes.
Elena is quick to comfort Henry while a squire helps Cedric to eat and drink.

Elena puts a hand on Henry's shoulder. "Don't worry Henry.. as you said it will soon be over."
Henry: "It's terrible to see him like this.. and what if that assasin lied and it is not the cure?"
Elena: "Remember what King Phillip said.. he told the assasin that he would be drinking the cure before Cedric would. You should really follow through with this."
Henry: "Perhaps we should add a bit of the poison taken from the arrow to the assasin's cup as well."
Elena: "Henry! you can't just poison your prisoners!"
Henry: "If what he said is true and the cure works, he would not be poisoned."
Elena: "hm.. what if we just tell him we added the poison to his cup? If it won't work he is not going to drink it willingly."
Henry: "That might be a better solution yes.."
In the meanwhile, a much lighter conversation is going on outside.

Herbert: "We can have the wedding within a week, there will be a grand feast!"
Lady Blacktower: "I am sure she will be thrilled to hear the great news! Marrying someone of the prestigious Blacktower family is the most wonderfull thing!"
Baron Blacktower smiles to his wife. "We have been happily married for nine years, our parents managed to match us up perfectly!"
Pierre: "And you two are such an elegant and lovely couple my lord and my lady! Noble and gracefull, and kind to everyone who washed their hands."
Baron Blacktower: "I wish you two much luck and happiness together Herbert. Hard to believe my little brother is going to get married!"
During the conversation, Henry and Elena walk out of the door.
Herbert: "Ah there is the lucky lady! she is even more beautifull than I thought she would be!"

Elena blinks and looks confused at Herbert, who she has never seen before in her life and then looks at the other Blacktowers and Pierre, who are all smiling and looking expectingly at Elena, who seems to be caught completely by surprise. "Erhm thank you for the compliment sir, but why am I lucky?"
Baron Blacktower: "My brother, Sir Herbert Blacktower, has agreed to marry you! You will get to be a Blacktower, is that not wonderfull?"

Elena frowns and seems completely surprised by this turn of events. "Wait, what?"
Lady Blacktower smiles. "Aw, she is left speechless. That is so cute."

Herbert gently takes Elena's hand and smiles at her, while Henry gives a disapproving look at the Blacktowers he remains silent for now and seems mostly curious about how her sister will respond.
Herbert: "My brother and sister in law told me all about you in their letters. You sound like a wonderfull bride. While your family is not wealthy, your brother is the mighty Cedric! A very chivalrous and noble knight who is admired by all. Our marriage will improve the prestige of us both, and for our children as well!"
Elena: "Ch.. children?"
Herbert: "Oh yes, I want a large family! maybe five or six little Blacktowers! Anyway, my brother the Baron can arrange the marriage within a week! aren't you exited?"
Elena frowns. "When where you planning to even ask me if I want to marry you?"
Herbert smiles. "Oh, you are such a romantic! very well I will ask you to make it official... Will you, Lady Elena the Swan, marry me, Sir Herbert Blacktower?"
Elena is about to respond when suddenly uncontrolled crying can be heard behind Herbert. It is Pierre who seems to cry tears of joy when witnessing this marriage proposal.
Elena pulls her hand loose from Herbert and waves her hands up in the air, clearly very upset about this marriage getting forced on her.

Elena: "Are you mad?! Of course I won't marry you! I never met you before in my life yet you are making very big decisions for me! And I am perfectly fine being a Swan! I don't want to be a Blacktower!"
All the blacktowers are completely surprised by this, Henry seems to have expected this all along though and smiles.
Herbert looks at Elena in shock: "Wha.. what are you saying? why would you NOT want to marry me? I am quite a catch! I am wealthy, a great adventurer, and VERY handsome! surely you are just kidding." He smiles again before continueing. "I already planned the menu for our wedding, and you will wear a beautifull green dress!"
"AArgh! just get it through to your big head! I don't want to marry you! not now, not ever! go away!" Elena grows increasingly frustrated and pushes the arrogant Herbert down the stairs, much to the dismay of the other Blacktowers and Pierre who are panicking!

Lady Blacktower: "You are ruining everything!! I was going to wear my newest dress to that wedding!"
Elena: "You two have no right to decide my future for me! I came here to get away from my mother who kept trying to marry me off to clowns like that!"
Baron Blacktower: "Us Blacktowers are not clowns! aside from a distant cousin who we distanced ourselves from, but my brother is a great man!"
Henry just sighs and moves off the stairs to help Herbert back to his feet. "Good thing my sister has common sense."
Henry helps Lambert back to his feet, it seems mostly his pride is hurt from the fall.

Henry: "You just had to mention putting her in a green dress, did you? she does not like that color."
Herbert: "This is an outrage! you should have stopped her from doing such nasty things! you are her brother after all!"
Henry: "She gets to pick who she wants to marry, and you never even told me or Cedric about your plans either."

Herbert: "I should just return home now with my troops! I have never been so embarassed in my life!"
Henry: "You swore an oath of allegiance to King Phillip, like all the other Blacktowers. You WILL stay here at least untill the king returns to explain to him in person that you would betray your oath because my sister refuses to marry you."
Herbert mutters. "Fine, I will stay.. but I don't like it one bit."

Well done, Elena.. you're centuries ahead of your time, I suppose. Great story, Rhalius. I'm glad to see it continues. New story lines... very interesting, can't wait to see what's coming up!

Thanks, I had to hold Herbert up by the feather of his hat when doing that shot hence why its a little less clear than the other pictures. Elena is indeed a bit ahead of her times, and also has the same bad temper as her brother Henry. While its medieval times I do want to provide some nice roles for women as well.

Great continuation of the story a good shot of Roderick and Frederick riding off and of course the great scene with Elena refusing to marry very funny, good for her standing up for her rights, I certainly wasn't expecting that marriage proposal

It's great that you didn't let the photo-camera disaster ruin the story! Did you have to shoot all of this again, then?

Really, green for a wedding? Quite right to push the fellow down the stairs. Great continuation, as always looking forward to future installments.

I did have to shoot it all again yes. The first two pictures after the recap of the last story are the only ones I could use from the pictures that survived.
With a siege battle it simply takes way too much time if I had to recreate the exact spots where people, rubble and weapons where laying to fill in the blanks.
So I opted to change the story quite a bit.. still pretty much the same outcome, but going there in a different way. The improvements work well though, the Elena subplot is new for example. And in the first version Henry was going to the forest on his own instead of Roderick and Frederick.
Once I posted the entire story, I'll post the pictures I have of the "lost chapters" as it where.
Last few days I have been very busy shooting pictures, I shot over a hundred in three days hence the delay for posting the next bit of story. It's all for the next chapter but I am shooting them straight after each other. I'll post the next bit tomorrow. :)

Christopher: "What's going on here? Did Sir Herbert trip at the stairs?"
Herbert: "Erhm.. yes! I tripped! really need to watch your footing at the top.."
Christopher: "Well you seem to be alright."
Henry: "What's done is done, no need to dwell on it. Perhaps we can spar a bit, sir Christopher? It might help you get back in shape now that you have recovered from your wounds, and I didn't get a chance to fight you at the tournament."

Elena: "Sorry for my outburst, I am just tired of people trying to get me married to them without even knowing anything about me."
Lady Blacktower: "Well I am glad it did not go through, since there can of course be only one lady blacktower in this castle!"
Lady Beatrice grumbled a bit. "Yes, one Lady Blacktower is enough.."
Lady Blacktower smiles, seemingly ignorant of the grumbling. "Well thank you!"
Baron Blacktower is trying to comfort Pierre, who is very upset about not getting to help plan the wedding.
During all the commotion at the castle, Roderick and Frederick had their own problems however...
Riding into Pepperwood forest, they feel a bit uneasy. It's very quiet.

Moving on a bit further, they decide to proceed on foot when they spot a white flower that looks like a lily.

Quickly they draw their swords, expecting an attack.
Roderick: "It is none of your business why we want it, now leave us be and we will soon be on our way."
Wolfgang: "Oh please, stay a while! I must insist."
Frederick: "Unless you brought Biscuits and drinks, we are leaving right after we get that flower."

Comeing out of the bushes, Roderick and Frederick are suddenly surrounded by bandits!
Wolfgang signals them to attack straight away, while he moves down the rocks.

Frederick and Roderick manage to hold their own quite well against these bandits.
Roderick: "Affraid to fight us yourself?"

They seem to be making quick work of the bandits, Wolfgang does not seem concerned about this though and moves to the horses.

Frederick: "He got our horses! we need to do something!" Being distracted for a moment, Frederick gets knocked off the rocks by the bandit.

What a turn of events great work the whole settup and fighting is really nice and you've created a fine looking bunch of bandits good use of the Scottish Highlander torso as well. Hope Roderick manages to dodge that attack in time :knight:

Acting quickly, Frederick pulls Roderick out of harm's way and attacks the bandit behind him.

Roderick grumbles a little. "Girls can be just as dangerous though, Elena was the one who took out the dread baron after all.. What will we do with this lot?"
Frederick looks at the bandits as they get back on their feet, being disarmed and defeated.
"Well we can't do much about them right now.. let's hope they learned their lesson. Begone you bandits!"

They walk out of the forest, with the Krinflower in hand.

After walking quite a while, they see a farmer and his son riding a wagon when they come out of the forest.
Roderick: "hello there, please stop!"

Farmer: "Sure thing, I just came back from the town to sell my crops so there's plenty of room in the back. Get on the wagon and I'll take you to the castle right away!"

As they step off the wagon and make their way to the castle they thank the farmer.
Farmer: "Hey there, not so fast! I am not driving around here for free!"

Farmer: "Well it would be five gold for each of you.. and we where driving for about two hours so thats ten gold each.. and now I have to ride all that way back as well so thats another five gold... and now I have less time to work on my crops so thats another ten gold as well to make up for the lost time."
Roderick grumbles as he reluctantly pays the farmer for this rather expensive ride.
Quickly they move into the castle and Frederick waves the krinflower to Henry, who is sparring with Sir Christopher.

Blue Shadow: "The Blue Shadow spoke the truth, the krinflower is the cure and the Blue Shadow saw through the prison bars you have the right flower. The Blue Shadow is not affraid."

Lady Beatrice holds the cup out for the blue shadow to drink from, and he does so without problems, and seems to suffer no ill effects.
Henry: "Alright, take him away. Looks like he spoke the truth.. let's give Cedric the cure as well straight away!"

They all move into the castle to Cedric's room to give him the cure, everyone eager to see their good friend and brother back in full health, no longer in pain.

The meeting is held at a neutral castle, some troops are waiting outside since it has been agreed upon that everyone may only take a single bodyguard to the meeting.
"Hail king Phillip and Queen Dominique!" They suddenly hear two knights shout from the side.

It's Duke Alymere and Sir Godfrey, they where competitors in the recent tournament and helped out along with others in the dramatic aftermatch.
King Phillip: "It is good to see you two again, representing your homeland Chivalia I presume?"
Duke Alymere: "Yes your Majesty, we personally urged our king and queen to attend this meeting. We have seen how dangerous the Dread Baron is, he must be stopped. Please forgive us for not dismounting as is proper in the presence of royalty, but we wish to stay ready in case of trouble."
Queen Dominique: "It is quite alright, and very much appreciated. All the rulers of this continent will be gathered here today, which might make us vulnerable."
Sir Godfrey: "It is a secret meeting my lady, while I cannot speak for other nations, I swear it that no one of Chivalia has spoken a word about it to outsiders. Only our royal court knows about it."
While the King and Queen talk a bit more with the two knights, Sir Jory notices that Sir Fernando is here as well. As usual he is drinking, something Jory does not agree with at all, not when so much is at stake.

Jory shook his head. "Please, take your responsibilities more seriously. We can't be drinking, we have all sworn oaths to protect our lords to the best of our ability."
Fernando: "Oh you worry too much! It's a secret meeting! It's so secret that they even hid all the ale kegs.. good thing I brought my own."
The gate keeper takes notice of the latest arrivals and signals to open the gate.

Queen Morina, ruler of Blackwood. A gracefull queen, but also a somewhat harsh ruler, but an effective one. There are some awfull rumors heard about Blackwood, that it is no longer the pleasant place it used to be before Queen Morina's husband passed away.

"Oh don't worry about it, I only just arrived myself. It was quite a trip so I told my nephew Fernando he could have a drink outside, it would be cruel to let him stand guard after such a long trip while I sit here comfortably."
King Miguel, sitting next to Queen Morina. He is the ruler of Falcona. While not a bad man, he can be quite careless and even ignorant. He is mostly clueless about what goes on in his own realm, and his advisors are known to take advantage of this for their own gain. Henry won a small tournament in Falcona not long ago, which King Miguel organised.
"There is nothing to forgive, the order of our arrival is not important. Why we are here, is what is important." says Queen Valeria.
"You are a man of honour, we know your intentions are good." King Raymond adds to the words of his wife.

Queen Valeria and King Raymond rule Chivalia together, they are actually quite similar to King Phillip and Queen Dominique, but a bit younger.
Chivalia is known for its many chivalrous knights, honour is very important here. Sir Lancelot, who also competed in the Falcona tournament, is here to guard them.
"We did not come here to hold hands, sit down and say what you have to say."
Even Ragnor, the Viking King is here which is quite unexpected. While not too young anymore, he is the undisputed leader of most of the Vikings on their isle.
He is very much a man of action and not of much words. While officially he is at peace with the other nations, his vikings are known to raid coastal villages here and there.

King Oberon, the oldest of kings, and ruler of Elydion.
A very wise and kind man who rules his subjects fairly, but trouble is always brewing in his kingdom.. it is rumored to be a land where magic, dragons and other mythical things exist. But surely it's all just rumors?
"Please have a seat, King Phillip and Queen Dominique. Thank you for the invitation."
Sir Warren, the gold knight of the West, one of the four knights that rule Craftkeep.

Craftkeep is an island that has grown wealthy from trade and their fine craftsmanship of arms and armor. It used to be ruled by a Tyrant untill five years ago, four knights arrived at the isle. Having heard of how poorly the people where treated here, they vowed to overthrow the Tyrant and free the people. Which they did. In the aftermatch the people proclaimed them the new rulers of the Island.
Since there is no king but the island is of great importance, King Phillip decided to send an invitation to the four knights even while it could upset some of the other kings. Too much is at stake.
Queen Morina: "Only one bodyguard for each nation, one of your knights needs to leave."

King Oberon: "He has been kind enough to clear his castle of all staff aside from his gatekeeper, and stands on his balcony. He does not want to interfere with the meeting."
Queen Dominique: "How kind of him. It was no easy task finding a neutral location for us all to meet. Lord Gregorius can be trusted. He avoids all kinds of trouble and has always stayed neutral in all disputes."
King Ragnar: "Alright, let's get this meeting started now that everyone is here. The sooner I can get back to my island the better."
With all royalty gathered here, will King Phillip and Queen Dominique manage to get support? Wil they find new allies or new enemies? Big decisions will be made soon, this is where kings and queens decide over the fate of the kingdoms.

King Phillip: "He tried to kill sir Constantine when he walked off the field after defeating Sir Hugo."
King Miguel: "Surely he has been punished enough for that by now? How could I possibly give assistance to a king who locks up my people?"
Queen Dominique: "You make a good point, as soon as we get back to our castle we will ensure his release."
While the queen would prefer to keep such a dangerous knight in prison, keeping him there could only make an enemy out of King Miguel.

King Phillip agreed with the decision, and moved on to discuss the matter at hand.
"Now that that is settled, please hear us out. As we mentioned in our invitation, an assasin tried to kill me.. he worked together with the Dread Baron, and a third man who revealed to us that Prince Edward the Lion hired all three of them."
King Oberon: "This is very troubling news indeed if what you say is true.. his father was a noble man.. stubborn, but noble. Do you think the young prince is only after you, or do you think there is more at stake here?"
Queen Dominique: "He has been gathering a large army very fast.. independent lords have sworn allegiance to him.. Would it not be better to put a stop to this before this turns into a war?"
Queen Morina: "I fail to see how this is my problem."

Queen Valeria: "What can we do to stop this war?"
King Ragnar: "Why stop it? surely you can't be affraid of this little lion cub? Burn down his villages, and he will surely surrender!"
King Oberon: "Burning down villages will only bring a lot of harm to many people who do not even know about the treason of their liege. As far as I understand he is quite kind to his people. This is why I cannot act against him.. I can see about helping with the Dread Baron however.. "
While everyone is busy talking around the table, Sir Stephen and Sir Constantine talk quietly amongst themselves.

Sir Constantine: "Don't worry about King Oberon, he is a great man.. if he agrees to send support, I will propose to lead these forces."
Sir Stephen: "It is very much appreciated, but be carefull not to weaken your own borders.. Surely you suffer the most from Viking raids since their isle is next to Elydion?"
Sir Constantine: "I am more concerned about internal matters.. and the vikings are of little concern.. few dare to land on our shores.. they fear the rumors about our lands."
Sir Stephen: "I have heard some, just how much of it is true?"
Sir Constantine smiles. "Let's just say a lot of it is exaggerated, but we don't elaborate on that.. it works well to keep people from causing trouble."
In the meanwhile, it seems things are turning out quite positive at the table of kings.

Sir Warren: "This dread Baron seems similar to the tyrant who used to rule Craftkeep.. We have been itching for a real challenge for years.. ever since we managed to improve things there it has been rather quiet. We will gladly seek out and defeat this Dread Baron for you, King Phillip."
Queen Dominique smiles. "It is very much appreciated, but I must warn you that he is very dangerous. He seemed evenly matched with Sir Cedric, before Cedric sacrificed himself to protect my husband. He defeated Sir Christopher without even trying."
Sir Warren: "We have heard many tales of Sir Cedric yes.. perhaps individually we would not be as strong as Cedric, but I am confident that the four of us would be, so we should have no trouble with the Dread Baron."
King Phillip: "We welcome your help with open arms Sir Warren, gold knight of the West."
Queen Morina: "I think I have heard quite enough of this whole Dread Barons and Lion prince matter.. perhaps we can move on to more important business?"

King Miguel: "That baron sounds scary though.. we should do something about him."
King Raymond: "Queen Morina, what are you here for then if I may ask? What could be more important?"
Queen Morina: "I merely wished to establish trade rights with Craftkeep in person. Their blacksmiths are known for their great skill."

Queen Morina: "That is all I needed to hear. I will send someone to Craftkeep to work out the details."
King Ragnar: "Why bother? I respect them for conquering Craftkeep, but it seems all four of them where affraid to take the throne."
King Miguel: "I am not even sure why he is here.. he is no king and should have no place at this table."
King Oberon: "Sir Warren has proven himself to be respectfull and well mannered.. which I cannot say about the former ruler of Craftkeep. He will always be welcome to share my table."
King Phillip: "And ours as well."
King Raymond: "We remain cautious.. but to get back to this matter of the Dread Baron and Prince Edward, we will send out ten of our finest knights to find and capture Prince Edward."

Queen Valeria: "It is the young prince who is the root of all this evil, if we capture him, there will be no need for war. He will be treated well."
King Ragnar: "Why not just chop off his head and be done with it?"
Queen Valeria turns pale at the very thought of such a gruesome thing. "In Chivalia we treat everyone with equal honour, even when they do not show it themselves."
King Miguel: "It's not a bad fellow, I have talked to him at times.. he has been a guest in Falcona for a while. Very polite. Very curious too! always asking me about how many soldiers I had, how high my city walls are, how many ships I have.. as if I know such things! I am a king, I have people to handle those sort of affairs."

Prince Edward: "So your king is hosting secret meetings behind my back? Is this how he repays my friendship? Open this door, I must speak with him and the other kings straight away."

It seems the gatekeeper heard him, he opens the gates for Prince Edward.

With a confident stride, he walks into the meeting to speak to all the gathered kings and queens. Everyone is quite surprised by this sudden appearance. This meeting was secret! how did Prince Edward know about it?!

King Phillip: "You hired the Blue Shadow to kill me, the Dread Baron to kill Cedric, and a third man to protect the Blue Shadow. The third man talked, and told us you hired them. Now that you are standing here in front of me, I want to know why. Why did you try to have me killed?"
Prince Edward: "My kingdom was taken away from me before it was my time to rule. Now I will carve out my own kingdom, and I will be king!"

Not caring for this one bit, everyone suddenly grows quite upset and knights are moving in to arrest Prince Edward.

Queen Valeria: "Lancelot, arrest the Prince!"
King Oberon: "This cannot end well for you, young prince. Please.. surrender yourself quietly."
King Phillip: "You will be treated fairly in prison."
King Miguel: "I trusted you! You where my guest many times!"
While the situation is heating up in the courtyard, Sir Gregorius looks down in silence, trembling with fear since all this time, the Dread Baron was standing right behind him with his sword in hand. Standing ready to step in if Gregorius had tried to alarm his guests. He kept smiling nervously towards his guests from up there.

Sir Warren: "Surrender your sword Prince Edward, and no one will need to be harmed. I have no problems with hitting a Prince so don't force me."

He gestured towards the balcony, where the Dread Baron was standing clearly in sight now, causing many of those gathered to look up.

How did they manage to learn of the meeting, and even managed to set up this trap? Will the kings, queens and their knights be able to get out of this?

King Oberon: "Sir Warren! I cannot approve of this, release him!"
Queen Dominique: "Let's not lower ourselves to their level."

With surprising speed, the Dread Baron attacks Sir Jory and Sir Lancelot.

Before they even know what is happening, Jory is beaten down by the Baron's shield and Lancelot is defeated in a brief sword fight.
Sir Stephen tries to attack him in the back, but it seems the Dread Baron is quick to use his sword to deflect the attack while picking up Lancelot's sword.

He kicks Constantine hard against the table, knocking him out as he beats down the first of the vikings and turns to fend off Jory once more.

Queen Valeria: "Duke Alymere and Sir Godfrey will protect us, they are outside the gates."
King Oberon: "As much as it pains me, we must leave. There is too much at stake here. If they capture all of us, he will use us to get to our kingdoms."
King Phillip: "I agree.. I would not want to leave my knights behind but I will return with my troops. Hopefully Cedric has been cured of his poison."
Queen Dominique: "I will try to get King Ragnar to leave with us, he is too old to get himself into a fight with the Dread Baron."
Daring to pick his sword back up, Prince Edward's bodyguard attacks Sir Warren to free his master.

The soldier poses little trouble for Sir Warren, but it does allow Prince Edward to move freely again.
Prince Edward: "I cannot be stopped anymore, at this very moment my army are already moving to lay siege to King Phillip's castle. I heard Sir Cedric survived, they will make sure that this does not happen again. The castle will be burned to the ground!"
While the Dread Baron moves in on Sir Warren, Queen Dominique tries to plead with King Ragnar.

Queen Dominique: "Let us leave King Ragnar, you cannot defeat him. He was evenly matched with Sir Cedric the swan knight."
King Ragnar: "A king does not flee! I earned my throne with the sword, and I will not run off like a coward!"
Queen Dominique: "No you won't, King Ragnar. You will merely be retreating back to your island to gather your vikings, so they can share the glory of battle with you when you return here with them. They will be reminded once more why you are their undisputed leader."
King Ragnar murmured a bit. "Very well, I will assemble my army."
It seems Queen Dominique knows exactly what to say to the Viking king without hurting his pride, but will it be enough? will they be able to escape?
And could Sir Warren and the remaining knights stand a chance against the Dread Baron?

Great fight in the castle! The Dread Baron is quite skilled, despite his maniacal attitude. :lol: I hope that the other knights will be able to avenge Stephen and the others that were injured or killed!

Surprisingly, Warren seems to hold up quite well against the Dread Baron, who had become overconfident.

Unlike the other knights present, the Dread Baron had never seen him fight but just assumed he would be no match for him.
Sir Warren manages to hit his helmet off and tries to push on, trying with all his might to overpower the Dread Baron!
Prince Edward finds it takes too long for his liking however and he draws his sword. "Stop fooling around, this ends now."
He walks up to Warren from behind and stabs him in the back! He falls down wounded, unable to get back up.

The Dread Baron is quite angry about this though! "I don't need your help, he was stronger than the others but I would beat him!"
Prince Edward: "Not nearly fast enough, now go make sure that no one escapes!"
Dread Baron: "Fine, I'll keep them here. But you are on your own in this fight."
Prince Edward: "What fight?"
Prince Edward does not see that King Ragnar had climbed on the table and was leaping at him, sword in hand! He could just barely turn around before being pushed to the ground and forced to defend himself against the agressive attacks of the Viking king!

Dread Baron: "I am sure you can handle one old king. I'll take care of the rest of them."
He moves to block the way for the Kings and Queens. "You are not going anywhere. Anyone of you that tries to get past me will die."

King Raymond: "Have you no honour?! You are a knight, you should abide to the code of chivalry!"
King Phillip: "I am affraid there will be no reasoning with him, he has abandoned that path a long time ago."
King Miguel: "What about money? I will pay you whatever you want if you let me go!"
Dread Baron: "No one is leaving here, now wait here a moment while I go take care of your remaining troops outside."
The Dread baron moves to pick up Warren's sword and raises both swords to taunt Sir Godfrey and Duke Alymere, who are standing outside.
"Come on then, I am right here! Try and stop me if you can!"

Sir Godfrey: "We will charge at him together, we can't hold back."

While the two brave knights charge forward, Sir Fernando finally gets off his chair to help out.
"Don't worry, I will make sure these fellows here are not going anywhere!"

As the two knights charge forward to attack the Dread baron from both sides, the Dread Baron jumps forward in between their horses with both swords raised up, hitting both knights at their sides while narrowly managing to avoid Sir Godfrey's axe.

With these brave knights falling wounded off their horses, the Dread Baron moves past them only to find one drunken knight and a single soldier outside as his only opposition.

Growing bold now, Prince Edward's bodyguards pick their weapons back up now that no one is able to watch them anymore.
Sir Fernando: "You are out of luck fellow, the more I drink, the stronger I am! And I just finished a whole barrel!"
While it sure helps his confidence, it is quite clear Fernando is not going to last long against the Baron.
In the meanwhile, Sir Jory is struggling to get back up, fighting against the pain.
"Stephen? Can you hear me? speak to me!"

Gently Sir Jory takes the sword from Stephen's side. "You are going to make it my friend, and I will protect them.. as best as I can!"

And it seems Sir Jory's sword will be needed, Prince Edward's bodyguards are charging into the castle and the Dread Baron has defeated Fernando and his soldier!

While wounded and weakened, Sir Jory attacks two of the bodyguards at once, preventing them from helping their Prince who is fighting a hopeless battle against King Ragnar who is clearly trying to kill the young Prince!

The two other bodyguards move in to prevent the royalty from escaping, fighting their last remaining guard.
Queen Dominique: "King Ragnar, we only need to defeat him, spare his life!"
King Ragnar: "Let him live and he will just try to stab you in the back again!"
King Phillip: "He won't get such a chance in prison, where he belongs."
While Jory fights bravely, will it be enough to stop the Dread Baron when he moves back into the castle? Or anyone else? Will anyone be able to escape?

While the wounded Jory is overpowered by the soldiers and the last falcon soldier is defeated, King Raymond pushes against the crossbowman to keep him from firing.
"Run! We must leave now!" He yells at the others.

And so they flee, Queen Dominique up front. Her eyes are on Jory's attackers. Sadly there is nothing they can do now, they must get away!
Blackwood soldier: "Shall I move in now my Queen? I am sure I can stab one or two of the Lion soldiers in the back before they know what hit them."

Instinctively Queen Dominique rushes to Godfrey's horse and climbs on it.
"You are a true hero sir Godfrey." She struggles to hold back her tears as she sees the Dread Baron overpower the brave knight that just saved her.

A soldier tries to catch the Queen, but the horse gallops away the moment Queen Dominique is on it.
Godfrey drops his sword from his hand, too wounded to put up a fight. "I yield."
Dread Baron: "Gah, I'll not give you the pleasure of a quick death. Tomorrow morning you are the first on the chopping block!"
While Queen Dominique got away, there is no escape for the rest of them. King Ragnar has been subdued by the soldiers. He was too focused on trying to hurt Prince Edward that he did not see them coming.

Soldier: "It may be too crowded sire."
Dread Baron: "We may as well get rid of them now, we only need the royalty."
Prince Edward: "No, keep pushing untill it fits. I want them all in prison. These nations their finest knights can be used for ransom."

Reluctantly, the kings and queens walk into the prison.

King Phillip: "Your father would be very disappointed in you, Prince Edward."
Prince Edward: "He lacked ambition and brought ruin to the kingdom I was destined to rule. I will be a greater king than he ever was!"
King Oberon: "This cannot end well for you, young prince. You just declared war on countries you know very little about."
Prince Edward: "I don't need to know much about your country, old man. It is just forests and wild stories. The same for Blackwood. I know all about the weaknesses of Falcona, my soldiers are already marching to destroy King Phillip's castle, Chivalia may have many knights but they would never risk the death of their king and queen. Craftkeep does not even have an army, just three knights now that I captured one of them. And the Vikings are but simple minded barbarians."
King Ragnar mumbles under his breath several very unpleasant things that he'd like to do to Prince Edward.
Dread Baron: "Move along woman. You are going to prison along with the others. Your soldier too."

Dread Baron: "Your kingdoms are going to make me filthy rich. That little prince is just a means to an end. Now move!"
Queen Morina smiles as she moves to the prison. "Practical as well, I like that. I will keep an eye on you."

King Raymond: "It is hopeless.. he was right about our knights.. they would never risk us getting hurt."
King Ragnar: "He will never set foot on my island.. a captured king is no king.. Another will replace me, and will crush him at sea."
Queen Valeria: "We cannot lose hope. We will get out of here."
King Oberon: "Indeed.. it is never wise to make enemies, especially not when making this many at once. And new enemies may yet reveal themselves to attack him as he spreads his forces too thin."
Prince Edward: "Put them all in prison, wounded or not. Throw in some bandages along with them and they can bandage their wounded themselves."

Prince Edward smiles. "King Edward? Not yet but I soon will be. It may be nicer to get crowned king of the entire continent at once!"
With everyone locked up, Prince Edward and the Dread Baron move up to the balcony while the soldiers clean things up.

Prince Edward: "I am not happy at all about Queen Dominique's escape. I want you to catch up with the army and make sure Cedric does not survive."
Dread Baron: "I am sure your army can handle it. He can't put up any fight as it is. Besides, only your personal bodyguards know we are allies. Your army sees me just as well as the enemy."
Prince Edward: "That is why I did not take them here for this take over yes.. but what they do know is that King Phillip betrayed me. You will merely be a helping hand who knew all along about King Phillip's true nature. You will be a rebellious hero to them."
The Dread Baron grins. "Rebellious hero.. I like the sound of that. Besides, it would be boring to just stay here.. I rather go where the action is."
It seems like all hope is nearly lost.. but is it really? Will Queen Dominique reach the castle safely to warn the others?

Queen Dominique arrives back at her castle after a fast and quite uncomforteable ride. Without a lady's seat, she could not sit properly on the horse in her restrictive dress.

Roderick is quick to help the queen off her horse. "What happened, your majesty?"

Frederick: "We should go resque them straight away!"
Queen Dominique: "I am affraid we cannot do that. Prince Edward's army was not with him, only his bodyguards. He has ordered his army to attack our castle and burn it to the ground!"

Cedric: "I am feeling better already. Lady Beatrice says I should be able to fight again in several days."
It looks like there finally is some good news. While Cedric will not be able to help fight the Lion's army, his council might give them the edge they need.
But King Phillip, the other kings and queens as well as a good deal of brave knights are still held in captivity. With Prince Edward's army moving in, will they be able to defeat this large army?
It's time to prepare for battle.. how this will end will be seen in the next chapter: Swords and Lions.

I already have the pictures of the next chapter ready. Still something I want to do in between first before I'll start on it.
Tends to take me few hours to post an installment to phrase it all properly and give the right information.. I take the pictures with a good notion of what will happen but I pretty much write the story while posting it.
Especially with this story having gone on for several chapters and this one really giving more information about this world it takes place in, I really want to stay consistent with my own story. Two more chapters to go with this story, after this I will likely do at least one pirate story as I've been planning to do for a while now.
Just to take a little break from the medieval setting and do more with the pirate stuff I have hoarded in the past years. :-[
After that there will be more stories in this setting, but I am planning to have them consist out of less chapters.

Great work that horse ride looked painful but, at least she got back in one piece and in time to warn them and let them prepare for the siege and good to see Cedric back on his feet and on the mend. Look forward to seeing what you do in the next chapter :knight:
